No he didn't lol. I'll let us one paragraph blurb on Wikipedia about his time in Atlanta tell the story.

plus I watched it happen in real time.

I live in Atlanta as well.

And he actually just factually did.  You can even look up the stats.

That's a super misleading blurb.  33.8 would lead the league most years (would have been 2nd to KC those years).  Offense really wasn't the issue.

Per Jerry this morning,

I would say this ...

1. The story was/is accurate, and not exaggerated.

2. These guys have jobs to do. Sark can want to go to the NFL, but doesn't mean he can get a job there either. The fact that it got out will make Sark have to answer the question when asked directly by a parent/kid/circle leading into December early signing period.

Didn't he get a nice raise a couple of years ago? I know Sark has doubled his annual base salary since he got here.

A couple thoughts catching up.

If I was a high profile college coach and my agent wasn’t mentioning my name at nfl meetings I’d fire them. The leak about it was a single line at the end of the article notes.

I’m a longtime Falcons fan and when Shanahan left after the Super Bowl and we hired Sark, the decision at the time that was wildly reported is that Sark was going to try and run Shanahan’s playbook. I thought it was dumb at the time and it only lasted a season and a half before the firings happened. He took that playbook to Alabama and with their superior athletes and HC it clicked. Texas hired him off that sequence of events. I mentioned at the time here he sucked in Atlanta but didn’t care enough to harp on it. He’s basically Kyle Shanahan 2.0 now being good but not getting over the hump. I still think it’s their play calling stuborness.

The drama around the L’Oréal baby though is peak message board gossip and like flight trackers and coaching searches is the best time here. Oh look Brian Kelly got fired….

I would give @closetojumpinga handjob at the 50 DURING HALFTIME OF THE AGGY GAME and a reach around if we could trade Sark for Shanahan.

His agent is the least likely to leak this. The fact football scoop has never seen an agency put out a statement like that says so imo. There is no benefit for sexton to leak that kind of shit at all and more do on a gameday. His client just received a letter side earlier this year

Or he’s trying to help his client out not knowing how hay sark is no longer a hot commodity?

I’m not sure you’ve thought the actual mechanics of that through.  How can you give a reach around while giving a handjob?

Bro, you’re the one in the freaky relationship, I’m sure you could figure it out…

I just posted something outlandish that will never happen, because Shanahan isn’t leaving and neither is Sark (well, Sark isn’t leaving until Arch does, anyways)…

The fact that it got out tells me that at least one team does or did have interest.  The agent wouldn’t be dumb enough to volunteer this information without an inquiry.  The team goes to the agent and says what about Sark.  The agent has been instructed by Sark that he will field NFL inquiries so the agent says yeah he might be interested.  Then the team leaks it.  Why?  Could be several reasons.  Reduce coach leverage.  They owe the reporter a favor.  Someone in front office is an aggie.

The strongly worded statement CAA put out is interesting, don’t think I have ever seen that before. Bullshit is spewed all the time in coaching searches. But this time an agent, not the coach, publicly denies it?

Sark leaned on them hard to put that out. Maybe threatened to fire them, I don’t know. So he either got word they leaked it, they were sloppy and maybe corroborated, or the whole thing was utter bullshit. My guess is it’s the second one.

I have no doubt that Sark was/is looking to leave. I think he thought he could coast this year (based on how well his team looked the last 2 years), looked at his roster and especially with how Arch played last year, have another great year, and then leave a hero. He mailed it in during the off season because arrogance got the best of him.

He's to hoping the huge ass piece of humble pie gets his ego knocked down a few pegs, and he gets his shit together for himself and the program.

I'll go against the internet mob mentality and say that I don't want Sark to leave. I'm hoping the absolute turmoil of this season (some, probably most, of it his own making) turns him into a better person and coach. I'm hoping he can self reflect and make the changes required of him both personally and professionally.

100%.   Perspective is valuable here too.  We're currently 6-2, coming off of b2b CFP semis.  We've put a record number of players into the NFL, and the O-line was heavily impacted by that.  People who judge a coach on that one season's results are dumb, you need to consider a rolling couple of years average.  Sark looks good on that metric.  Not perfect.  But if your standard is that Texas should compete for the national title every year, you're unreasonable because no one does that.

"Yeah we're 6-2 but a hair's width from being 4-4!"  ...except we aren't.

"Yeah but in the NIL/portal era there is no excuse for being young/inexperienced" ...ok?  Coaching staff woulda coulda gotten better players via the portal this offseason, but there is no magical supply of the players we need either, and while we do have money to get players, the "money whip" thing is not real, because top-end players have a decision process that involves more than money.  Ahmed Hardy would not have come to Texas to sit behind Baxter and Wisner.

"Yeah but Sark's OTA/NFL focused offseason was too soft and created a bad culture!" ...the same culture that just pulled together for b2b OT wins.

"Yeah but Sark is flirting with the NFL that that hurts my feels!" ...you'd prefer a coach that doesn't aspire to move up?  And yes, coaching a NFL team is a move up in prestige in the coaching world.

ANY call to fire Sark, or force an OC on him which is the same as firing him, needs to be weighed against the alternative.  Remember: you're just as likely, maybe even more likely, to end up with Charlie Strong 2.0 or Tom Herman 2.0 than the next Saban.  It's easy to bitch but you're rolling the dice every time you hire, ask OU.

Found this info:

  • Under his original deal, Sarkisian would have earned $5.8 million in 2024.
  • Sarkisian signed a contract extension following the 2023 college football season that aims to keep him in Austin through the 2030 campaign. For the 2024 season, Sarkisian earned $10.3 million under the terms of that extended deal, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport.
  • Early 2025:  Sarkisian is now under contract through the 2031 season, with his total guaranteed compensation approaching $81 million. For 2025, his guaranteed compensation goes from $10.4 million to $10.8 million.

This always cracks me up. Sure, we are almost 4-4, but our 2 losses were by one possession each, on the road.  We could also be 8-0.

Works both ways.  But we are 6-2 and everyone is acting like we are 2-6.

i'll go even further

i don't care if he un-divorced an uppity instabitch to save face for her allegedly non-sark child

i do care that he went awol for 39 days - but that's a personal issue as well and battling the liquid demon - if that's why he was away - is not a personal choice - it is a disease

what i'm hoping is he will have a cathartic realization his pro scheme doesn't work with this team at this time and for the rest of the season he will call the games like he did 0u and the klan aggy 4th quarter, and then when the season is done, fire flood, fix the goddamn Oline and keep building the program

Regarding Sark and the NFL heres a snippet from a 2011 interview. And before we say he'd never get a job offer this year just remember Kingsbury got hired as a HC after  Tech fired him 2 months prior.

This will be less than what lane will get. Maybe that’s the reason for the leak.

My thoughts:

Sark’s on-field results do not warrant firing him or wanting him gone.  Texas is 6-2 with a new QB and a rebuilding OL, coming off b2b playoff appearances.  He’s more than meeting the standard.

No way Sark is angling for a raise.  He just got one and isn’t having the kind of season that justifies another bump so soon.

No way Sark is being heavily courted by the NFL right now.  His rep/results aren’t that good.

So either…he’s just unhappy for whatever reason (it could be that one of his players fucked his wife, it could be the pressure of the job, he’s feeling heat for some reason, whatever), and he’s looking to get out, or…it’s all bullshit.  It doesn’t seem like bullshit.

Texas having to find a new HC amidst a disappointing season because Matthew Golden fucked L’Oréal Sarkisian while Texas is a non-contender and fucking Aggy goes undefeated and wins the national title would be something.  Fuck my life.

He was QB coach with an AHC title so having sheets makes perfect sense. He probably also had some input during games. Lane Kiffin was the OC and playcaller.

Sark has done a wonderful job rebuilding the program and raising the floor. Short of a full on meltdown, he's certainly earned the right to lead the program and try to take that last step for the foreseeable future.

That said, to me it seems obvious his flaws as a coach will hold us back from going from the top 5-10 level squads he's put together the past couple years to winning a NC, and I think last year may be the closest we ever get to a SEC title under him too (very light 8 game league schedule that will never be replicated). If some NFL team wants to give us a get out of Sark free card and we have a chance to hire someone better suited for the task at hand now, which is different from the task at hand in 2021 when Sark was hired given the state of the program, I'd absolutely take that.

This happens all the time in sports, by the way. Richt to Smart for a potent CFB example. Some coaches are able to work bad teams into good or even very good ones but sometimes another coach is best suited to elevate a team to championship level.

I don't know or care, but I'll drop this in for the discussion, and maybe there is video to be found and analyzed for any possible misquoting or added context. Maybe it's like, "Lane asked for suggestions and I suggested the call and Lane said, 'hell yeah, Sark, why to step up with a thought, I'm going with it."

In a recent episode of Big Noon Conversation, host and Fox Sports analyst Joel KIatt sat down with Sarkisian. Klatt asked Sarkisian about his worst play call at one point during the interview.

“I know exactly what it was: Fourth-and-2, USC playing Texas in the national championship game,” Sarkisian said, according to Fox Sports.
