That’s something I’ve also said multiple times. My scenario was a hypothetical. Sark has frustrating and maddening tendencies in his coaching hubris. Learning that he potentially and allegedly put out feelers to the NFL at the start of our season after an inexplicable change to a shitty NFL model brought the fire breathing dragons out. People no longer care to keep the gossip under wraps. There is a precedent for his disappearing from his two stints at Bama. And because of that people naturally have a right to be suspicious of it during what has been a let down of a season so far for a 5th year coach. Who has all the resources and the talent to not be in a dogfight with Miss State and KY.

I get why people are pissed. I just think it’s taking the easy way out blaming his off the field issues. Alleged escapades have nothing to do with Banks still coaching here.

I think it's the volume of posts that's got a lot of people torqued up.  One of the two pretty much bowed out of the thread after Saturday until just now.  The other has what feels like 50% of all the posts in the thread.  Which one do you think is going to get dragged?

You say something like this, with appropriate caveats like “it’s possible” “kind of remind me,” and people without any reading comprehension are going be arguing “well CTJ said Sark goes on 20 day benders!” Im not blaming you but that’s how this shit gets started.

And then we have 40 pages of this absolutely embarrassing bickering.

I think you should attempt to coach me in my posting behaviors more. It might really alter my behavior going forward, and apparently that might impact the entire board. Let’s see how it works out!

I would disagree with this, at least with regard to the last two hiring cycles. For Chuckles we can blame the previous administration, including Steve Fucking Patterson who I knew personally long before he came to Texas, and who is a grade A asshole. Anyway, let's look at the two most recent hiring processes.

2016-2017 College football carousel

Tom Herman was the hot name after the 2016 football season and Texas rapidly identified him as the man and moved swiftly to make the hire. (It was graded an A by CBS Sports at the time, just to give you a sense of how it was regarded). If you look at who else was available, the pickings were pretty slim. Matt Rhule would arguably have been a better hire, but his only experience at the time was three years as HC of Temple. The only other guy of the coaches hired that you that you go, oooh I'd like to have him is Lane Kiffin, who was hired by Florida Atlantic. At the time Kiffin was something of a joke, having been run out of USC and spending three years in Saban rehab. Bottom line: In retrospect Herman was not great, but at the time he was seen as a home-run hire and Texas' process allowed the team to quickly secure him after he went 22-4 at UH.

2020-2021 College football carousel

If you go back and look at the names hired that cycle there are a lot of people who you say meh to, including Bryan Harsin (Auburn) and Bret Bielema (Illinois). Texas was by far the highest profile job that came open that year and the team had its pick. Among the alternatives, the only other names that make any sense in hindsight are Jedd Fisch (NE Patriots QB coach hired by Arizona) or Josh Heupel (hired by Tennessee from UCF). Texas would have lost its collective fucking mind if Heupel was hired. Again, given the choices at the time, it is difficult to argue against the choice of Sarkisian. In October of last year, grading in hindsight, CBS rated him the best hire of the cycle.

So yes, by all means, spread all sorts of libel about Sarkisian, his wife, former UT players, and babies. Talk about all of his (alleged) drinking. But even in hindsight I would argue it is difficult to say that Texas hiring process is "fucked up."

To be clear, libel involves malice intent and then proof of falsehoods being spread. I know because I have successfully sued for Internet libel, twice. Also, the onus is on the claimant even more so if they are a public figure, which Sarkisian certainly is.

Christ.  You people (YOU PEOPLE) seem to think CDC hung the moon, and yet he and the powers that be approved a raise and contract extension a month AFTER this missed Junior Day.  Does that sound like a situation where Sark went off on a bender?

In my case, I’ve never implied that the break missing junior day involved a bender. I’ve argued the break was a result of a problem, allegedly, that was mounting towards the end of the season.

It could have been for anything, of course.

What I am certain of, and there is a public timeline to support this, is that considerable time was missed.

Probably one of the best posts on this entire thread. Shooting the messenger for a message they don’t like is peak surly. The thing that fascinates me is that most people doing the messenger shooting have no qualms about attacking anyone they don’t like and putting them on blast. That’s perfectly fine. But if it’s a message about someone they do like or don’t want to hear it’s all wailing and gnashing of teeth and histrionics. And warnings to the messengers to careful about how and what they post. And desperate pleas to shut it all down. Never mind these same fucktards have a field day doing the same exact thing to people they don’t gaf about. I’d say it’s hypocritical but what do I know? Not much apparently.

Also, while we're discussing various Bama/Saban stuff in regard to Sarkisian, I believe I did post that Saban, allegedly, was using Sarkisian's past against him on the recruiting trail. He was showing literal receipts to some folks, including the Manning family. Sarkisian and Saban publicly talk about mutual respect, but that was a low blow that allegedly hurt Sarkisian in very normal, human ways. Saban is a sociopath and a master at handling his public persona.

reminded me of this excerpt from the article on arch's recruitment

NOBODY KNEW WHERE Arch Manning wanted to go to school. Some in the family preferred Georgia, where head coach Kirby Smart would coach him hard. Others, Alabama. The problem for Alabama was that Nick Saban -- whom the Crimson Tide assistants affectionally called "Daddy" -- was getting up there in years, and nobody knew how long he'd be there. Texas kept lingering. Competition was so fierce that everything was fair game. It was public record that Steve Sarkisian had battled alcoholism, a disease that nearly cost him his career. Sark had rebuilt his life and work in recovery. But during one Zoom call with Arch, Golding was discussing Alabama's schematics and culture, and then he went there.

"I love Sark," Golding said. "He's my best friend." He paused. "I hope he can stay sober."

After the Zoom ended, Stewart called Golding. "Pete, that's f---ed up!"

Golding knew. He had no choice.

"Daddy's on me."

I offer a ton of positions. Oddly, they’re not all going to be right. Shocking.

Nonetheless, when I offer info that isn’t my own, whether it is related to recruiting or certain programs where I make it clear that the info is sourced, how often am I wrong? Can you idiots who bring out the “closetojumping predicted this thing incorrectly!” trope understand the difference? Doesn’t seem like it. That’s a you problem.  I am also usually pretty obvious in differentiating between my own position and that which I am passing on.

I try to compel people to take a position by taking my own and attempting to be provocative in doing so. I enjoy fomenting discussion on this site. One of the downsides is that I have to hear this bullshit every now and then from posters who have never once taken that chance in their entire posting history, like you, here.

1. Winning a natty would clear the sand from everyone’s vaginas here.

2. Natty Light is basically water. Thus, Sark can drink and still #allgas.

GDGD, this place is a fucking beating. Do y’all really think if Sark skipped out on all of those things because he was on a month-long bender he’d still have a job?

I don’t think he was on a month long bender.  I don’t think he has relapsed. And I don’t know or care who is the father of the last baby his wife birthed.

To answer your question, I do think he would still have a job if he missed a month on a bender.  He had just been to the playoffs twice, had the preseason Heisman trophy winner on board, and had a sure Top Five ranking upcoming.

Plus, the university leadership and BMD’s would not let news of a month long bender out because the reputation of the institution would be damaged.  They don’t like that and would cover up his problem hoping it could be remedied quickly.

There is reasonable hope they can be competitive next year. That hasn't been the case for the last 12-14 years, and you guys are shitting all over the man that ended that decade plus misery.

We managed to win 10 games and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in 2018 while being coached by an alleged piss monitoring alcoholic who burned people’s food while also dealing with his problematic wife.

So don’t act like Sark was a savior and the first guy to win double digit games around here in over a decade, even if Sark did do us the favor of getting rid of the Mensasshole who thought he was smarter than everyone else. Herman got fired in 2020 after going 7-3 and losing those 3 games by a total of 13 points, including an 8 point 4OT loss to OU. That’s a razor thin margin of error.

Good riddance to Herman, but let’s not act like Sark walks on water and rescued us from the constant 7 loss seasons that Charlie Strong was pumping out. Sark has the advantage of recruiting with NIL while his predecessors did not.

Wouldn't this be a reason to not post unsubstantiated rumors about our head coach being a cuck and going on month long benders? Why would that be enticing to current players, recruits, and their parents? All just so some of you can be perceived as having inside information, that's all there is to gain. Possibly...but Herman would not run QB sneak in a key situation like OSU, when it clearly would not work. Herman was trouble but his game time offense situation calls are light years better than Sark.  I know what I see on offense and if he can't improve this season then he needs to go. Weekly the defense has to carry this team.

Yeah he probably would’ve called QB power instead. Dude, he lost to Maryland twice, lost to Oklahoma his final 3 tries, lost to Iowa State his last 2 seasons, and never won the B12. His key situation play calling was CLEARLY ELITE

Thats not what I fucking said. You’re obviously fucking stupid if your takeaway from my comment is that Herman is better than Sark which is ridiculous and insulting to everything Sark has done here.

Herman was a gigantic pussyass shitbag borderline psycho, but he won us 10 games at least once in 2018. My point is that people act like Sark rescued us from a decade of Charlie Strong play and completely gloss over a ten win season by Herman before Herman dropped the ball in 2019 and 2020.

I’m glad Herman is gone but don’t act like we were some 5-7 team that Sark completely rescued from the shitter. The 3 games we lost in 2020 were all by a margin of 13 points. If Keontay Ingram doesn’t fumble at the TCU 1 yard line, we win that game instead of losing by 2. If Sam doesn’t throw another game ending pick in 4OT in the OU game, we could have tied it up and gone to 5OT. If Dicker makes the final kick against Iowa State, we go to OT instead of losing by 3. All the pieces fell into place perfectly for Herman to be canned that year because he was such an unlikeable prick, but the team wasn’t as bad as you’d like to think. I’m glad Herman got fired so we could get Sark, but let’s pump the brakes on Sark being a savior when the NIL factor is also in play here.
