Hmmmm,  an attack on a non strategic location and event that can be used to excite the Russian population to feel there is a “threat”, but has no real impact beyond Russian propaganda use.   I foresee the FSB finding some more SIM City games in the future along with Nazi and Ukrainian flags and T-shirts the perpetrators brought with them to conduct this strategic military operation behind “enemy” lines.

The theory is that it's also a message to Prigozhin.

Another 147,000 we’re just announced to be called up to the meat grinder.

Putins sole strategy is to outlast Europe’s money with continuous manpower

There's just one problem with that strategy: The manpower is not continuous.

Eventually, Russia has sent every able-bodied person to the front lines. With that, they have removed an entire generation from their ranks, with no replacement. Between that and the brain drain, there will be nothing left of Russia as a country. Republics will be able to break away with impunity; the rest will effectively become a Chinese vassal state.

If Pooh Bear were smart -- and this is in doubt -- he'd be encouraging Moscow to fight to the last man, giving them just enough support that they can get there, while at the same time negotiating to have effective ownership of Russian resources, a thing they've already done to a significant extent in Africa.

The Capital does not care about deaths in the rural PanAm districts. The Capital only wants their labor and resources to stay in power and subsidize its better living standards.

It remains unclear if the Turret Toss Games will have any influence on the populace.

I think that you’re going to see a significant shift in Russian strategy. There’s a reason that they’ve been throwing Wagner to the wolves in Bakhmut. I’ve been pretty pointed about Wagner not having any real separation from the MOD but one thing that is true— no one will miss those guys. But that pool is smaller than the pool of conscripts and contract soldiers.

I think that Russia has mostly exhausted its offensive capabilities and appetite for a large offensive.  I think they are going to shift to a defensive posture and to weather the storm of the upcoming Ukrainian counter-offensive and hope the lines don’t shift too far. The new forces they regenerate and field will be sent to defend what they have in Donbas and southeast and will try to freeze this conflict against a Ukrainian force that will be tired itself.  AFU need to take as much as they can swallow in the next 30-45 days once this kicks off.

While Russia is on the defensive you’ll see those casualty figures go down and they’ll eventually end up sending conscripts to man whatever LOC is established.

People are posting in the threads about the bombing, that the main target was very pro-Wagner, anti-Putin, and was part of the pro-Wagner supporters that had been openly criticizing Putin and the MOD.  If true about his leanings, definitely Putin, did it.

Oh c'mon now! Vlad would NEVER do terrorist bombings in his own country bolster his support! GRUhorn told me himself!

No matter, what happens in Ukraine, Russia has already lost the war. Russia cannot replace the dead. Russia cannot handle the many tens of thousands of wounded and mentally fucked up veterans that will return to Russia and be a drain on resources and a threat to their families and neighbors even if Ukraine is somehow defeated.  Russia cannot replace the brain drain of its most educated people and its younger people fleeing the country. Russia cannot replace its lost tanks and planes and ships.  Their future arms sales revenue will drop dramatically.

Foreign investment that will not risk nationalization of foreign assets, and Russia’s refusal to change its warmongering does not make Russia a desirable place to invest your money. Add to that Russia’s massively diminished income because of the loss of oil and gas sales to Europe and elsewhere, and the discount India and China force them to take.

The shit show that is Russian economy also has manpower shortages throughout the country. Also, Russia being Russia, this war has created multiple opportunities for Russians who control various industries required to maintain the war effort to grift and steal the resources (being that now there is even less supervision of the increased military spending).   Russian culture says this presents a greater opportunity to steal more than you did before.

tl;dr.  Russia is already fucked. They have past the point of no return on the future fuckage. Right now China is slightly lube fucking Russia, but in the near future they will be going in hard and dry on the reg as Russia will be broke, a pariah, with only nukes to prevent China taking over eastern Russia.   Russia lost its ability to threaten others within its federation with its conventional army.  Ivan lost his Colt McCoy.

Next to the main invasion, that was one of the dumbest fucking things they did in terms of damaging their economy, and not only did they nationalize a bunch of Western/foreign assets of countries they were pissed off at, but they were boasting about nationalizing those assets in their media and through the official government channels.

They basically leaned as hard as they could into the "we will still your stuff, whether it's toilets from Ukraine or aircraft from Western airliners or inventory and real estate from everything concerning stores in the mall to the American food joint on the corner."

And they boasted to the world about stealing this stuff.  No fucking wonder their soldiers were so casual about stealing toilets, washing machines, etc.

A whole lotta this.  Russia issued a real one-two punch lesson of 1) don't do business with Russia with respect to ANYTHING you can't just walk away from (e.g., don't depend on them for essentials, like natural gas.  If you want to buy caviar and furs from them, have at it, no nation has ever collapsed because it's caviar supply took a punch); and 2) don't give Russia the chance to take custody or control of anything you can't walk away from (e.g., large capital investments, such as factories or large stocks of inventory).  Want to lease a few retail spaces, and send in trainloads of Levi's every week?  Cool.  When the next shitstorm starts, you're just out a lease (that you won't be paying on anymore anyway) and last week's load of Levi's.  That's not a killer.

Russia has turned itself into a non-viable commercial partner for....the part of the world that has most of the money.  Sure, China and India can pick up some of the slack...but when they're the only players, their bargaining power just went up to BRUTAL levels.  Whatever business you get from China, be prepared to take it up the ass, NLAA on the deal terms.

Russia just condemned itself to being....well, what Russia has been for most of its existence.  A large farm with poor yields and unpaved roads, with some pretty buildings and culture in two cities.  In other words....one of the Baltic states, but with a lot more square mileage and fewer paved roads.

Stealing is their national birthright.

Putin is the richest man in the world for a reason, and his oligarch buddies didn't make their fortunes by being nice guys with good products either.

And the Russian soldier is paying for it right now, as all of those billions that should have been funneled into the military to help them out were instead funneled elsewhere or even out of Russia.

How many stair cases are there in St Petersburg?  Or perhaps high open windows.   Asking for plutonium underpants suppliers.

I dont recall anyone updating the Finnish elections.

Finns still pissed a hot 37 year old woman went out to party one night a year ago

Well....when I visit there, I'll obviously need to comfort Ms. Marin.  She will be sad, and will need my listening ear.  I will be sure to provide that service.  It's the least I can do.

Not only that but you can assume that that culture of theft shines brightest when they sense scarcity which they’re most definitely experiencing at this point.

Mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said he did not think it was the Ukrainian government: "I think there is a group of radicals operating, which unlikely has something to do with the government."

The blast could be linked to political infighting in Russia, as Kyiv has said. There are now a lot of angry men carrying guns in Russia.

  • Finland will join NATO on Tuesday, says Jens Stoltenberg, head of the world’s largest military alliance.
  • Russia’s Investigative Committee says Darya Trepova, a suspect in the killing of war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky in a St Petersburg cafe blast on Sunday, has been detained.
  • Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin says his troops had raised a Russian flag on its administrative building in the centre of Bakhmut as Ukraine says it still holds the eastern town.
  • Moscow will deploy tactical nuclear weapons close to the Belarusian border with NATO neighbours despite backlash from the West, Russia’s ambassador to Belarus says.
