Imagine Obama ranting and raving about having Bush arrested, and refusing to say what for. And everyone being like "Yeah, that's how he is. Anyway...." The fucking normalization of all of this drives me batshit crazy.17 points

80,000 dead Americans. And climbing. Encouraging armed yahoos to march on state capitols. Lying repeatedly about the greatest crisis the world has experienced in generations. All while continuing to steer graft to himself and his cronies. Spending an entire day tweeting fucking insults. Never even a word of empathy or leadership for the American people. Putting his unqualified son in law in charge of the greatest endeavor we've faced as a country since WWII. And the list goes fucking on, and gets even fucking worse. With Trump, it ONLY gets worse. It never gets better. The time for fucking manners is OVER. Fuck "polite." I'm done with being polite. I'm done with treating ANYONE who EVER supported Trump (especially those who continue to enable and excuse him) with any measure of politeness. Not even a fucking speck. They are LITERALLY enemies of humanity. How and why in the blue fuck would I treat those people with any fucking "politeness?" The deserve our contempt, scorn, and if we can muster it, our hatred. That's what it will take to root out their evil and bullshit. My negativity is exactly where it needs to be. I'm done. Enough, basta. This fucking joke is over. It was never funny, but standing next to a mountain of corpses and a shattered economy, its depravity couldn't be more apparent. You tell me that I'm negative? That I make it hard to be polite? GOOD. That's the greatest goddamned praise I could hope for. I hope that I make you uncomfortable. I hope you know that there are millions like me. And we've had enough of your shit, because it's killing my countrymen and ruining lives. There is one decent place to be in this world -- opposing anything and everything associated with a regime of depravity, evil, and cruelty in the name of self-interest. Anything other than that is morally indefensible. YOU are morally indefensible. As if anyone believes that you won't "reluctantly" pull the lever for a man who you excuse and support at almost every opportunity. Have the balls to be what you are. At least have that. You'll at least be a piece of shit with some dignity.15 points

It’s an absolute failure of Surly leadership. There was extensive documentation on the highly contagious and hazardous Politics Virus. Despite the leaders of that forum claiming their virus, which made the evolutionary jump from the weasel, could not be transferred from person to person, the mods had an obligation to protect to posters of Daily Texan. All travel to and from that forum should have been immediately halted. Quarantine should have occurred for anyone having visited that forum within the past 30 days and anyone showing symptoms (excess nationalism, race-baiting, pics proudly displaying their AR-15 collection, sudden obsession with Robin Hood, anti-gay statements, bitching about everything, etc.) should have initiated exhaustive contact tracing and further quarantine. Instead, our leadership waited until it was too late to contain this pandemic by taking a weak stance on travel to infected areas, failing to properly identify infected personnel (some who were asymtomatic but contagious). Multitudes of infected posters were were told to stay home but failed to heed the instructions, without consequences. We quickly reached the point of untraceable community transmission. Posters who never traveled outside of their safe space have contracted the Politics Virus and are silently infecting unsuspecting members of their family and the general public. The mods have given up, hoping for an eventual herd immunity. It appears the oldest posters of the Daily Texan may have died and the forum population is beginning to mirror that of the Politics discussion board, who already had herd immunity from drinking from the same jizz jar during daily circle jerk parties.15 points

On of the subtexts of this thread is the ability to adapt and overcome and to turn the hand you are dealt into a winner. As I scrolled through the thread this morning, I came across a glorious plate of nachos, which as will do, made me want nachos. Everyone knows that the first ingredient needed for nachos is chips. Well, I was dealt a shitty hand in that I didn't have any chips, and my laziness to go to the store was winning over my desire for nachos. Then, as I opened the fridge to look for another lunch option, the sight of a roll of venison sausage struck me like lightning. Why not use summer sausage as a replacement for the chips? So what we have here is your basic summer sausage, jack cheese, horseradish, bbq sauce, dijon mustard nachos topped with pickled japs. Those two pushed to the side of the plate had pickled, candied japs, so they were for dessert.14 points

If the juxtaposition of a GOP state court limiting the power of an executive Vis-a-vis the legislature while the Supreme Court leaned towards giving the President partial to total immunity from congressional investigation doesn’t show the inherent hypocrisy and bald faced political opportunism of GOP politics, I’m not sure anything does.14 points

This is a very group 2 way of thinking about the world. Hugo posted facts. You have these basic options: 1) Discuss the facts - this can be done without politics 2) Discuss why the facts are what they are - this can be done without partisanship, but necessarily includes politics 3) Make assertions about his motivations for posting information without content, based on his political affiliation - this is inherently political, not to mention toxic.13 points

Imagine that, someone involved with Barstool Sports is a total fucking moron. And imagine that, of course GRHorn, mouth breather extraordinaire, is a big fan. Because he's "influential"! In today's world, 6 year olds who pull down 8 figs to open toy boxes on YouTube are also influential. But that doesn't mean I give a fuck to hear their thoughts on the Pandemic.12 points

What's uncommon, is for the incoming National Security Advisor to have a laundry list of inappropriate, unethical, and illegal activities with foreign governments, some (most? all?) hostile to our nation's interests, on his resume. So many such activities that his name pops up on an unmasking report. What's also uncommon is for multiple people to strongly advise the President against appointment of an NSA, including members of his own team and including the outgoing Prez, only to have him do it anyway. Because he's either a fatheaded dumbass, or because he found those inappropriate relations beneficial to his admin. To frame this as some kind of vast D conspiracy is ludicrous. These idiotic Twitter folk sharing these "bombshells" are idiots, feeding mental slop to other idiots. They share "This happened, and then this happened" without any critical thinking beyond placing the two statements next to each other. The only thing active in your empty skulls is imagination, so you determine that this is proof of a conspiracy. There is a much simpler explanation, and you won't like it.10 points

Do you think that with a different president in charge the results would have been as bad? Because if you do then you’re simply lying. This has been a failure in every way from our president and it has caused more deaths than we otherwise would have seen.9 points

False dichotomy (would we ever expect anything OTHER than a logical fallacy from a Trump apologist? It's your native fucking tongue). People were going to die. Not AS MANY needed to die. Healthcare workers were going to have thin supplies of PPE. Didn't need to be as thin as it ended up being. Testing was going to be a challenge. Starting with an admin that LITERALLY SAID IT WAS OPPOSED TO TESTING BECAUSE IT MADE "THE NUMBERS LOOK BAD" put us behind the fucking eight ball. Bad would be bad enough. Horribad, so bad that the rest of the world looks at us and shakes its goddamned head....that's where we are, and horribad didn't have to happen. But keep carrying water for him. It only puts you further and further on the wrong side of history.9 points

Pardon me while I turn the thread into my facebook post, since I don't have facebook. TLDR (you'll need it): Not anti-science, but turning into what I describe as a fatalist. I moved my family to a place where they knew nobody back in December. For a few weeks, the kids only had each other to play with, and there was lots of grieving for their missed friends and locales. The townhome we rented is in a great location, but no immediate families with kids their ages in the area. School finally starts up (the schools in the area were one of many reasons I wanted to move here), and they were accepted by peers immediately and started making friends quickly. Daughter got invited to birthday parties, and they were even getting playdates set up when boom, no more school/pandemic closure time. So back to only having each other. We put in an offer on a house at roughly the same time, not knowing how bad things were about to get. Ignorance, desperation, I don't know. Fast forward to this week and we're finally starting the move in process. One day I was there with my son and we thought we'd skateboard the street and I see sooooo many kids playing together. I think, hmm, they can't all be from the same family. This area is a pretty small subdivision and there would be no reason for through traffic. You go into the neighborhood only if you live there, really. Next thing you know a giant gaggle of kids run up to me and start introducing themselves, asking questions, e.t.c. Eventually their parents start walking over and doing the same. If there was no pandemic going on, you'd think I moved into a Norman Rockwell scene with a forest background. Most of the kids were girls, and younger, but then there is a boy my son's age and I just couldn't help it, I let them visit, play. For my son, after all this time cooped up, well, I imagine it was like water to a thirsty man. As I talked to the parents, I realized I myself have been lonely too, and I was so happy to get all these friendly welcomes and just talk to some friendly adults in person. Adults who know the area, who have kids, e.t.c. I didn't want to offend in any way, so I tried to crack a joke about "so, not quarantining the kids, eh?" The answer was essentially "we don't go anywhere, and they all know each other." Now, I KNOW that's not a great answer. I KNOW the safest thing I could do is keep my kids cooped up. But having them in their new place watching all the neighborhood kids play in the yards from the windows, well I'm not enough of a Kurtz I guess. I'm a fucking softie. So I confess, I let the son walk off and talk to his new friend (kids make friends so fast). The next day I let the daughter run with the other girls. I KNOW that's not smart. But I want you all to know that its not political, at least on my part. Its tiredness, its loneliness, its wanting my kids to have some joy in these dark times. And its a fatalism thing. The area I'm in has had 0 deaths so far, that we know. The testing is of course, minimal. But if this thing is so hyper contagious that we're all about to get it anyway (or maybe had it and don't know), at some point I find myself finally giving up, a bit. I don't plan on going to mass gatherings. I don't plan on eating in a restaurant in person. I shaved my head a few weeks back, so I don't care about haircuts. I wear my mask when I shop for groceries or go to Target. But not only do I not want my kids to be lonely, I'm tired of not knowing anyone myself in this place I've been in for six months. If letting my kids play with the neighborhood kids is going to give it to me, then I'm getting it. If talking outside to my neighbors is going to give it to me, then I am getting it. I'm not anywhere close to ever voting for a Republican, much less a Trump (although as a lefty a lot of Dems don't please me either). But I feel like some here would group me with science deniers/ak-47 protesters. Confession over.9 points

Obama has been writing his DNC keynote speech for 3 years now. He is going to eviscerate Trump in what might go down as one of the most watched speeches of all time. It will be perfectly delivered, the media will talk about it for 2 days, some 10 second zinger clip will go viral on twitter and get over a million likes. And Trump is going to lose his fucking mind.9 points

I don't read Cloak Room and I don't follow twitter, so I'd have no idea what Hugo's intentions were, if you jackwagons didn't constantly overreact to him. The "no politics" shit goes both ways. You're just as guilty of bringing it into this thread if you're dragging your biases and hatred over from the Cloak Room, because non-CR posters don't have ANY IDEA about that crap, and we don't want to. Please just stop it. If you don't like Hugo, ignore his posts. The shit-posting that ensues every time one of you reacts to him is just an absolute beating.9 points

Heard about this on NPR yesterday, haven’t read the posted article. From the NPR piece, the biggest WTF was that first police said they clearly identified themselves as police before they entered the home, but then later said they had obtained a no knock warrant. Those two things are pretty diametrically opposed. Shit like that is why the police have lost so much credibility with over the past few years.9 points

But he’s got your support and your vote. You can go to fucking hell. This was exactly what we expected from Trump - we saw it coming a mile away. You and the other enablers made this happen. Remember the wall? I’m guessing the same people who are accusing others of living in fear because they choose to stay at home, keep social distance, and wear a mask are the same people who demand a wall to keep out the hordes of rapists and murderers from the south. And don’t forget liberals, Democrats, socialists, black presidents, women who wear hijabs, and congressmen with Puerto Rican backgrounds.7 points

exactly. That was Obama’s plan too. When the Trump team opened the pandemic plan Obama left behind it was just an envelope with this:7 points

It would help if you understood how government works. In the sane, non internet fantasy dork world, national intelligence and the FBI do not serve the acting president's interests They serve the country's interests. And when a highly unprecedented and potentially threatening action takes place such as... I don't know, planned members of an incoming admin's cabinet breaking laws and repeatedly failing to disclose or actively hiding conflicts of interest, you're God damn right the Feds should investigate. So basically what this utterly ridiculous attempt at unmasking a conspiracy does, is remind us all that Trump signed up a bunch of corrupt pieces of shit in 2016. And most of them are now gone. Because even the head piece of shit couldn't handle the heat that brought. Those are utterly brilliant things to remind swing voters about, six months before an election. So good job, good effort. If the FBI and/or intelligence folks brought up an investigation on the Biden's, I would be *highly concerned*. Why? Because Trump has roundly rejected and ridiculed those teams at every turn. So I would feel quite confident they weren't acting beholden to him. The big question is, why would a sitting president ostracize his own intelligence arm? The only two possible answers are that he's the dumbest person alive, or that they don't act in his personal interest. And it makes him angry. Which of those two concerns you the most?7 points

Wait am I reading it right that some people are mad that Hugo is posting daily updates on death numbers, completely devoid of his own commentary, because he has a political opinion that they don't like? What a bunch of pussies.7 points
-
I seem to remember Hugo posting some pretty clearly political stuff in this thread early on. And since he has switched to only posting about deaths without saying anything else. While technically he is in line, it's basically like when you tell a toddler he can't drink his juice in the living room, so he sits on the threshold between the kitchen and the living room with his body in the living room and his juice in the kitchen. If he were participating in the thread in other ways it might be a different story. Also he probably has the ceauxvaids.7 points

No it's not. I've personally had over 50 patients test negative and get off the C19 unit. Then at least 3 I know of off the top of my head died from something completely unrelated and C19 sure as hell wasn't on the death cert unless someone altered it - tinfoil alert...6 points

I don't think he should take the black vote for granted. He needs to reward it by picking a strong black woman. Warren can work anywhere in the administration and shine. She is so fucking capable. And she is also passed 70. The Veep he picks is going to have first dibs at a presidential run once Biden is out of the picture. I am not a big fan of Harris but I can live with her. My issue is her being cozy with cops and with how she treated the back page owners for political points. But those are minor points in today's environment. I am more intrigued by Stacy Abrams but am admittedly not sure she has the name recognition and gravitas as Harris or even Val Demmings. The core of the party is black women. Make them energized with your pick and you will fucking own.6 points
