  6. everybody says this, but i don't really buy it. in my experience, there are people that have this word in ~regular usage, and there's everybody else. if this was a word he threw around, we'd have heard him say it by now, either on recording/video pre-presidency, or when he goes off-script at his rallies/briefings. in fact, i don't even think he's a racist, in the conventional sense of the word. i've seen zero evidence that he treats poor white people better than poor black (or brown) people. he treats everybody like shit, because he thinks everybody is beneath him, regardless of the color of their skin. he's shitty to anyone who's not in a position to help him or give him things. i believe that he uses racist/nationalist/supremacist language intentionally to rile up the racists that vote for him, because he's transactional and he only cares about getting elected. he'd address the nation in black-face if he thought it would help him win.

  7. This isn’t political, but Atria — the senior living apartments in Austin where my mother lives — just announced their first covid-19 case over the weekend. It is a resident who is currently hospitalized. In lieu of thoughts and prayers, please throat punch a denier, hoaxer, down-player or conspiracy theorist today on her behalf. Thanks.

  9. Trump makes a 30 second statement on the redskins and he isnt focusing on problems at hand, but its cool for Obama to do a sit down with the media on ncaa brackets for half an hour. I guess there were no issues in 2012, so I understand now. fuck off dude. Trump has spent 365 fucking days at one of his resorts. An ENTIRE FUCKING YEAR. But hey, spending 30 minutes on ESPN is the exact equal.

  10. Natural herd immunity is not a solution. As sawbonz says above, it is the worst case scenario. It means that 3 out of 4 Americans got infected. It means that around 75% of Americans who would die if they became infected with COVID did, in fact, become infected with COVID and die. It means we let the plague run its course and burn through the population until it ran out of uninfected human fuel. If we get to natural herd immunity, we’ve catastrophically failed.

  11. Natural herd immunity is worst case scenario anyway. We want to contain the virus until a vaccine is available then use the vaccine to get to herd immunity.

  14. I feel like this is the perfect time to celebrate both the life of Charlie Daniels and the 1983 Cinematic Classic: Stroker Ace. Charlie made some damn fine music, but the Devil's solo was obviously the better of the two. Stroker Ace was obviously an Oscar caliber film in 1983, but lost out due to the political Academy going with Ghandi instead to show how woke they are.

  15. Everyone with a brain knows the right thing to do is to shut down like Italy did until we get this under control. We are not going to do that because “muh economy” and our government refuses to bail out poor people. $1200 and you’re on your own. These are the consequences of unchecked capitalism and greedy pieces of shit running the government.

  20. Odell Haggins and Lawrence Dawsey were still there from the Bobby Bowden/Mickey Andrews days and Tim Brewster was on staff. In state kids that were offered by Bowden/Andrews (and by extension Haggins/Dawsey) went to FSU. It was even more pronounced than Mack vs. RC. So for the first couple of Jimbo seasons, the FL recruits responded the same way. The longer it went, the less good will and interest that Jimbo had in state and even FSU feeder schools started drying up for the Noles. That's why you see his 2017 class with so many OOS kids, including his "Georgia strategy", which played out exactly like these NE kids. His 2018 class was going to be even heavier in marginal 3* OOS guys - he was taking cubes like Christian Meadows a full 2 years early despite being in talent rich FL. Total. Fucking. Nonsense. Dreyden Norwood is a FS that some people think might project at CB but he runs 11.38 in the 100 and plays better facing the ball than turning, so ... MJ Daniels is waiting for any regional gulf school to give him a committable offer. MJ Daniels looks like a classic Gary Patterson take to play OLB in year 4/5. He's a 6'3" tweener that really has no position right now - calling him better than 10-12 of the CBs in Texas is laughable. Chappell's competition looks to be comparable to some decent 8th grade A teams here in Texas and his elite speed is based on a handheld time self-reported from his high school coach - in state you have Jalon Williams who is bigger and ran a freaking 10.52 back in 2018. There's no reason to go OOS for CBs like Chappell, except that the in state kids simply don't have interest.

  30. Wife and I tested positive over the weekend. Happy 4th, right?! We had a very mild version, I guess. No fever. I had like 2 days of body aches, a little cough. She had a little nausea and some congestion. Wife was exposed by a co-worker on the 22nd, so we're on the tail end of our 14 day period. I guess we'll see what this week brings, but according to her Dr. we should be good to go..

  31. Placing bounties on American military personnel earned Vladimir Putin, former KGB foreign intelligence officer and Soviet patriot, unfettered access to the President and kind words of public support for membership to allied summits and a bigger seat at the global economy. This is how America operates under the guidance of Donald Trump. This is the legacy of the Trump era.

  36. Some thoughts on the Eyes of Texas: Sinclair wrote a poem before he wrote a song. These lines from the poem: The eyes of Texas are upon you. They’re with you all the way. Were changed to these lines for the song: The eyes of Texas are upon you. You cannot get away. The poem ends with the lines: Vandyke brown, vermillion, sepia, Prussian blue, Ivory black and crimson lac, and eyes of every hue. UT has the original poem on a scrap of paper, complete with hand written edits. Sinclair thought enough of it to keep it and somehow it ended up in the archives. I think, if we jettison the song, it is unlikely that we will ever have something like it that unifies the community. I travelled around the SWC in the 1980s and heard a lot of forgettable alma maters. Before the game, we would play the Eyes of Texas and you could see how many Texas fans were at the game by looking for the horns up. And then, the home announcer would say "please turn to page 46 in your program or direct your view to the scoreboard for the words, and sing along with the band as they play our alma mater". And we would laugh at a school where the alumni did not know the alma mater and they had to put words up on the scoreboard. The home band would play some lame tune and the game would begin. "Oh we love our school it is the best we will always be true to thee". That will likely be us. The players, the larger Black community, and everyone else who was offended have the power to find forgiveness, if they want to, and advocate to change the lyrics to be more inclusive. If they find value in what we have, they have the power to say that what happened was wrong and everyone else has the power to say we are sorry for what happened. We all have the power to be more inclusive every day. But maybe the offense is too much and the song can't be saved. If so, I understand. I hope we can find an inclusive middle ground. Maybe it is there and maybe it is not.

  37. @bad_teammate sure, here's some examples: telling people how they should think, no facts, no reasoning, just calling people names partisan name calling, no content name calling for no reason opinion of politics, nothing to do with the thread topic non content name calling name calling, telling people how to think, not backing up opinions with facts, just spouting off your opinions on a thread for news and information about a neighborhood in Seattle.
