That is one of the stupidest articles I’ve read. For many of the prospects we have an uphill battle for, we’re probably the front runners. And LOL at SEC big wig aggy.... Mike Farrell is a fucking moron.15 points

True. But this is more about Texas than OU...feels like this could change the whole vibe around UT recruiting. Let’s be honest OU’s ceiling, as far as recruiting, is not Texas’ ceiling. This could conceivably be the one that gets UT to Mack levels - basically the recruiting GOAT...that’s assuming TH doesn’t shit the bed on the field. A man can dream...13 points

The fact that this keeps getting trotted out there as some kind of justification for charging forward with the season just shows that people still aren't understanding the nuances of this pandemic. Of course there are inherent risks with football. Of course. But these risks are fully known and can be mitigated with proper care across all levels. From CTE all the way down to random meningitis outbreaks at water fountains. How well these risks are mitigated depends on everyone from the administration all the way down to the athletic training staff. CTE can be mitigated with concussion protocol, less full pad practices, and better tackling and blocking techniques, for example. Despite everyone around here and out there slinging articles at each other about the virus, there is still so much that we don't know about COVID. We've had literally over a century to figure out how to mitigate the dangers that already exist in football. We've had 6 months with COVID and if all of this uncertainty is evidence of anything, it is that there is yet to be a medical consensus about what is safe and what is not. The long term effects on players is of great concern. Death for young people is still a real possibility. The retort will be "those odds are low." There are 130 Division I football teams with 85 scholarship players per squad, plus support staff, coaches, and scout teams. So, around 120 to 150 people specifically dealing with the day to day around the team. That's around 16,000 people. How many deaths of those 16,000 is acceptable? How many of those 16,000 will deal with unexpected long term issues for the rest of their life? Sure, well over half of these guys will have a bum knee, shoulder, or intermittent headaches for the rest of their life, but they knew that going in. They knew that all of that could happen on the field. They didn't know that they might lose half of their lung function or develop an arrhythmia or lose a kidney because of a house party. This is a game, guys. It will still be there when this is all over with. Give these players a free year, get them into Zoom classes, find ways to keep them in shape, and let's play on in 2021 when all of this is behind us. I'm just as desperate for normalcy as all of you. Let's be patient, be kind to one another, put on a mask, and get all of this in the rear view as quickly as possible with as few avoidable casualties as possible.11 points

The fuck is this supposed to mean? By being an employer I provide opportunities for people to better themselves. Exploit them for my benefit? Fuck you.10 points

Gotta spend money to make money. How many programs became better off by saving money? We’re halfway through a $200M stadium update and you are worried about a $50K - $100k raise for the best recruiter on the staff?10 points

I don’t understand the “easy” part. Carrington has to connect with 14-18yo prospects from a variety of backgrounds with a grab bag of demeanors. That’s fucking awful in my book. And not particularly easy. Then he has to connect with their parents who are the same mix of backgrounds and demeanors. Again, fucking awful and really hard. Adults are terrible, especially when you’re pitching taking their kids away from home. If that wasn’t enough, the success of the program around you directly influences your ability to succeed and you have no control over whether you’re winning or not. You can’t stop Tom from calling shitty red zone plays or allowing the mehderkind to overstay his welcome and tear apart the locker room. You just get to watch, then convince the aforementioned grab bag of personalities that everything is fine, “we just need you to fix it!” Fuck. That. It takes a special person to do all of that, and to do all of that well. Pay the man anything he wants.10 points

I'll have a few drinks for my 99 year old Grandpa tonight. He was a crew chief in the Army Air Corps in Burma during WWII. He later re-enlisted and retired a Major.10 points

This doesn’t matter to the naysayers. You can’t compare such a serious situation to other causes of deaths, see. Those other deaths don’t matter as much, so just one death from the COVID is too many. Because this is so serious. We’re not talking about relative risk, denier, we’re talking about this specific risk. Ergo any data you might have that provides a wider context is irrelevant. You don’t have a clue. Ask my 70 year old mom. I don’t want her to die because kids can get myocarditis from any infection. I want to keep her around and that means we have to panic and not get back to normalcy ever until no one ever gets sick ever again. Go fuck yourself troll.9 points

Also, I’m not sure Herman could have recruited this position any better. Rising has an elite arm. He was Riley’s top choice in his class. I think he made a very poor decision transferring from Texas. Getting Thompson on board as a long term project was also fantastic. Thompson has incredible athleticism and Herman has proven he can take QBs like Thompson and run a functional offense like he did with Ward at UH and at Ohio state. Then offering Card early without him having any real high school tape over some other big names at the time (specifically the dude UNC and aggy wanted). They trusted their eyes in camp. Card is the most polished passer since Colt in our program. Like Rising, he can sling it. I also love the diverse skill set they recruit. Between RoJo/Milroe/JQJ/Thompson and Rising/Card/Ewers... I’m not sure any other program has recruited a better set of QBs over the last 4 years not counting grad transfers.9 points

Friends got engaged last night, so we made dinner for them. 3 prime cowboy ribeyes from Creekstone Farm. The friends whose house we were at have a traeger, so I smoked them at 225 until they got to temp. Then I seared them over my charcoal chimney on a grate. They were some of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Will do the chimney method again.9 points

People who’ve never worked a position talking about how fucking easy it is definitely always laughable. “Let he tell you how fucking good that guy has it.” One of the oldest stories of all time. this is a job that didn’t even exist 10 years ago. And it’s so easy every team has a guy as good as Carrington. Oh, they don’t? Shit. Sounds like a bunch of white dudes should start sending out their fucking resumes to a bunch of schools since they’re gregarious and not that big of an asshole, right? Go get your 100k.7 points

JQJ to LB needs to begin sooner rather than later. Let him QB for a year, and then cross train. If card is half as good as they say, he’ll unseat thompson and Thompson will transfer. That leaves you with Card, JQJ and Milroe as QBs after sam graduates. A healthy enough QB room, then possibly too healthy after Ewers arrives, with little separation between card and Milroe. We need to be blowing motherfuckers out and playing thompson and card in games this year. Start his clock.7 points

If we get a Biden administration, he better not pull a Ford, and issue pardons and so on. Heads need to fucking roll. We should need a new supermax or ten just for all these people. Otherwise, the republic is done with the next GOP victory.7 points

On one hand, we have the incumbent who is the crookedest president in our lifetimes, a total sleazebag if not an actual rapist, dumb as a fucking rock, deliberately incites racial tensions, suffers from what appears to be early stage dementia as well as well as narcissism, doesn't bother to read have daily intelligence briefings, and who is actively undermining numerous foundations of our democracy and cozying up to dictators at the expense of our closest western democracy allies. On the other hand, we have an establishment white guy, who talks slow and forgets words because he is old, whom I disagree with on some policy positions. BOTH CANDIDATES SUCK!! I'm going to vote for Willie!6 points

Just got back from our annual Alaska trip where we absolutely wrecked shop on the silver salmon. This place is about an hour and a half from Juneau and we did some fishing there last year. This year we didn’t bother with other locations other than scouting. These pics are from four days where it took between 2:45 and 4:15 to catch 12+ salmon (excluding pinks) on two rods which is about all we like to process in a day. I also racked up 4 Kings which is my best total since I was in college. The Halibut is all bycatch from trolling or dropping lines while cleaning fish.5 points

USS Mellette was the name of your grandfather's ship. My dad served as a sonar operator on a battleship in the Pacific Theatre. He lied about his age when enlisting so he could serve. He was on his way to Japan as part of the invasion force when we dropped the two atomic bombs. Then, dad became part of the occupying force. As maniacally as the Japanese fought for the islands they occupied, there's a really good chance I'm not here today if President Truman hadn't made the decision to use the A-bombs. My dad passed away five years ago at 88. Miss you bigtime pops and will hoist a few in your honor.5 points

I’ll take that $9.95er stance over a homer reporter who crystal balls every hot prospect to Texas and gets overly emotional about recruiting. These guys like/need their time off, too. If he’s got some family shit going on, I don’t blame him for wanting a quiet day. He can always put his ear back to the ground tomorrow.5 points
