I really don’t care what your political views are. Personally, I would classify myself as a center right Republican if I had to put a label on it. We need more fiscal responsibility than either party has shown. We need more strategic social programs, rather than what is becoming a universal minimum wage. But I digress. My point is, irrespective of your politics, how on earth can ANYONE support four more years of a man who has made it his mission to tear the country apart, continually and continuously embarrasses the country and the office he holds, who caters only to those who support him and the rest be damned, and has made our country an international laughing stock? It baffles me that anyone can stand behind this guy. And please don’t say I support his policies, not him as an individual. You don’t get to separate the two. I am no fan of Joe Biden, but his comment that Donald Trump is the worst president in American history could not be more spot on. We absolutely can not afford 4 more years of this. We deserve better. MUCH better.44 points

Funny thing is, I am a speech therapist, and what Biden has overcome as a stutterer is nothing short of heroic. It may present as bumbling or "dumb" but his strategies to see through dyslfluecies is amazing. This is what I know as an expert, 18 years in the field: He had good coaching. Look for the side cough, a strategy to get the vocal chords active. And watch for the drop off of a word he gets "stuck" on, then defers to a different word, which typically isnt as strong of a statement, but a good deflection of the dysfluent episode. Those are big stuttering strategies (and tells). I felt like a film director watching Apocalypse Now and wishing I were as good.31 points

This is patently untrue. Joe Biden has an extensive agenda he has written about on many different topics. Just because you haven't read it, and can't be bothered to look into it, doesn't make your dismissiveness justified or valid. Only one candidate and party REFUSED to put together a party platform. And by the way, if you can't get motivated against a party that, per your own words and recognition, is doubling down on hate and divisiveness, well, then you are part of that shitshow, and you can get fucked.26 points

Because it was stupid. Anyone with half a brain knows what the root issue was. Remove Biden fron the debate, insert another candidate. Is it still a clusterfuck? Remove Wallace and use another moderator. Is it still a clusterfuck? Remove Trump and insert another candidate. Is it still a clusterfuck? You know the answer.21 points

Honestly, doing the opposite of Donald Trump is a pretty good rule to live by. He’s a broke, racist, mean sack of shit that wants to punish people who don’t worship him. He’s been awful to anyone he’s ever known and has never shown an ounce of compassion for anyone besides himself. If Biden doesn’t seem like a better choice then that I can’t help you.16 points

True, people do love a good spectacle, but it’s a little different when someone shouts “Worldstar!” in your living room. I watched five minutes and felt sad and sick. I avoid unhinged Trump as much as possible, so it was a shock to my system. It was so in-your-face last night. It left me with a profound sense of grief. Our country is so ill, and it only seems to get worse. I’m a veteran and the country I served is dead. I’m a Christian and the American church’s witness and standing is dead. It gave up being a force for good for worldly power. The scandal of the evangelical mind (that there isn’t much of one) has spread to the heart. Things that are so very important to me and my values were being mocked and satirized by that almost demonic display. And people I love and care about seem ok with it. That was all true before last night, but it was a cold hard smack of reality last night. It’s one thing to intellectually understand it; it’s another to have it happen in your living room. The conservatives in my life who “like his policies” were publicly horrified. You don’t get full on Trump unless you seek it out. You can “support his policies” and stay insulated from him. I don’t know if they’ll have the stomach for a round two; I don’t think I will. I’m glad I already voted Biden.13 points

I've lost a handful of friends since last night when I told people in a group text to go ahead & block/delete/unfriend me on any format if they agree with the sitting POTUS calling on the Proud Boys to standby. I told them I have no place for them in my world. Four and counting so far.13 points

The fact that you think the idea of being anti-fascist is "extremist" pretty much takes any chance for intelligent conversation off the table. The Venn diagram of anti-fascism is a big-ass circle of people who oppose fascist, oppressive state action - that has literally been a policy position of the United States for decades, it's not extremist. There is a smaller circle WITHIN that larger one where violent extremists reside. Whereas with White Supremacy....the whole circle is shitty. Peaceful white supremacists suck shit through a straw - what they stand for is anathema to what it is to be American. That's the fucking problem, man.13 points

I don't understand how what you said was any different from what I said (much less how you think what I said was "fucking despicable"). Of course Hillary crushed Trump in the debate. Hillary actually did quite a lot better during her debate than Biden did last night. But Trump didn't come out of the debate against her nearly as badly as I think he is coming out of the debate last night. And I think that has a lot to do with the fact that this country is going to be a whole lot more forgiving of assholery directed against a woman. I've been thinking about this, and while I agree it was a shitshow, it was a shitshow that benefited Biden. Why wouldn't Biden agree to do the next two debates? He came out of last night in better shape than he went in. This is wrong. There was a winner. Joe Biden won. And even if you think there was no winner, that means Joe Biden won. Every poll out there has Trump down. He's down around 7 or 8 nationally. He's down 9 in Pennsylvania. He's down a similar amount in Wisconsin. He's down even worse in Michigan. He's down three or four in Florida. He's down in Arizona and North Carolina. He may even be down in Georgia. He is losing. There are five weeks until the election. Trump needs all of those five weeks to make up ground. He just lost one of them. The next week is going to be dominated by coverage of the fact that Donald Trump (1) won't condemn white supremacy, and (2) told white supremacist terrorist groups to "stand back and stand by." It's reminiscent of Charlottesville, after which Trump's approval ratings hit the lowest point of his presidency. But even if you think his numbers won't go down--and I don't think I agree with that prediction--you have to know they're not going to go up. And Trump needs them to go up. And every day that they don't go up is a loss for him. Trump lost. And in a two-man race, that means Biden won.13 points

Trump sabotaged the debate. This is a fact. He wants to muck everything up and create chaos. Any discussion of Biden's performance needs be qualified with that statement. I'm not a huge fan of Joe, but that was admirable performance in an incredibly tough situation IMO. He kept his cool, laughed/shrugged off Trump, and focused his attention on the cameras/American people. Criticizing Biden for last night would be like bitching about a hitter not getting a base hit when the pitcher is literally trying to bean him on every pitch.13 points

Any concept of destroying an opponent in a debate requires the stunned/silent reaction. It's not just about throwing a good punch, it's about your opponent reacting to it. Trump won't ever give people that, because he is a con man. You don't beat a con man in a war of words, because all the con man has to do is keep lying and keep talking. And if he's lying and talking, he's alive. Trump has lived his entire life like this. No one is going to nuke Trump in a debate, because Trump does not play by the rules that would allow such a thing to even happen.12 points

I want to take him out. Then I want to take out every Repub who supported and enabled him (so, pretty much all of them, because we discovered that the species of “republicans with a spine and integrity” are fucking unicorns). All of them. Every one. If it takes 30 years, so be it. Leave nothing on their bench. Gut the party. If you want some sort of party on the right, cool...I want it to take a generation to get there. This little adventure needs to be punished, it needs to stand as the shining example of “how to kill a party” in the history books, so we never fucking repeat it.12 points

Tues Update: So we had a few milestones today:1) Got her catheter removed2) Got to eat her first meal at 11am. 7mL of mama's milk every 3 hours, and her body is reacting well to it. Digestive system working fully and normally. No bloat, not much gas. 3) almost got extubated, but the doc wanted to err on the side of caution because having to re-intubate would be far more risky for her than keeping the tube in for the moment. She's breathing on her own for the most part (except When she's had pain meds, which they are only giving her when she's in obvious discomfort rather than auto-drip). The risk of re-intubation would be irritating the area where the fistula from the lower esophagus was attached to the trachea was repaired No sense in moving too quickly, but they are re-assessing that tomorrrow. 4) She did have a small ASD and VSD (small holes in the heart, common among babies and especially common in kids with TEF) Hers are very small, and the pediatric cardiologist is confident that as small as they are they will likely close themselves, but we have to monitor them. We will have another echo on either Friday or Monday. 5) if feeding continues to go well, they'll up her meals, then they may take the feeding tube out by the weekend to see how she'll do with trying it in her own. If that happens, we could be looking at a shorter timeline. But we have no idea until we look at it. Just a lot of moving parts right now, but things are positive. Wife and I had some time to rest yesterday for a bit knowing we wouldn't be able to pick her up and that they wouldn't start feeding until today. Our energy is quickly being restored, and the hand of the Lord is working on our baby girl.12 points

The thing is the American dream of boomer generation was made possible by federal and local governments investing in infrastructure to make economic prosperity more egalitarian. Public investments in roads, electricity, running water, telecommunications, good schools, healthcare, and a postal service made the billionaires of today possible. At some point in time the conservative movement decided to frame all these job creating investments as a liability to “capitalism” when in reality it was these investments that made a fair economic market flourish. But you see tax cuts for insiders and “fiscal responsibility” is more important because everyone is so fucking stupid.11 points

workswithseed went to a couple of protests in Portland, ostensibly looking to find the violent thugs he's been hearing about on social media. He actually met a bunch of normal people and nothing all that remarkable. That didn't satisfy him, so he came back to the Internet, back into social media hate bubbles, and gained nothing out of the experience. Really sad to see.11 points

I find that assessment to be fucking despicable and also counterfactual--Hillary absolutely torched this piece of shit motherfucking racist Putin puppet in the 2016 debates. CRUSHED HIM. Go back and watch them again and you will see mastery by her in staying on message and still punching him back while also managing the balancing act of not appearing "shrill" to the CR misogynists that even today post anti-Hillary bullshit. Hillary (or Warren for that matter) would have pummeled Trump tonight and not missed the many punches Biden failed to take tonight. Everything HRC ever said about Trump in those debates was 100% spot on and it needs to etched with acid into the brains of those who attacked her based on their rampant misogyny.11 points

It would be a real shame if some of you Longhorn Twitter users would copy Olin's racist tweet image and reply to any recent Heisman tweets with the simple question @HeismanTrophy and @HeismanSponsorX how do you feel about Olin Buchanan, one of the few Heisman voters, being a racist? You should never tweet at a recruit, but outing an adult for being a piece of shit racist is quality twitter. Just a thought.10 points

Years ago on a rainy Sunday, GHWB (and his secret service detail) were the only customers, along with me, in the Blockbuster at Chimney Rock and Woodway. GHWB pulled Best in Show off the stacks and was checking out in front of me. The goofball working the counter had no clue who he was, requested GHWB’s Blockbuster card and busted GHWB for past due fees. The manager happened to be there and was not only horrified about what was unfolding before him but was also very apologetic to GHWB about the ordeal and waived the late fees sending El Presidente in his way. BTW, GHWB had a giant George Constanza wallet completely stuffed with stuff and looking like a Carnegie Deli Reuben sandwich. /csb10 points

No, it didn't. Here is the first mention of left-wing violence in the debate. Note that Biden's response about non-violence was completely unprompted, as the question he was respondng to was: "Chris Wallace: (30:35) All right. I want to return to the question of race. Vice President Biden, after the grand jury in the Breonna Taylor case decided not to charge any of the police with homicide, you said it raises the question, “Whether justice could be equally applied in America.” Do you believe that there is a separate but unequal system of justice for Blacks in this country?" Biden's response: "Vice President Joe Biden: (30:59) Yes, there is. There’s systemic injustice in this country, in education and work and in law enforcement and the way in which it’s enforced. But look, the vast majority of police officers are good, decent, honorable men and women. They risk their lives every day to take care of us, but there are some bad apples. And when they occur, when they find them, they have to be sorted out. They have to be held accountable. They have to be held accountable. And what I’m going to do as President of the United States is call together an entire group of people at the White House, everything from the civil rights groups, to the police officers, to the police chiefs, and we’re going to work this out. Vice President Joe Biden: (31:38) We’re going to work this out. So we changed the way in which we have more transparency, in when these things happen. These cops aren’t happy to see what happened to George Floyd. These cops aren’t happy to see what happened to Breonna Taylor. Most don’t like it, but we have to have a system where people are held accountable when… And by the way, violence in response is never appropriate, never appropriate. Peaceful protest is, violence is never appropriate." So not only are you 100%, completely wrong in your assertion that Biden was asked multiple times and wouldn't respond, but Biden actually brought it up himself, unprompted, and condemned left-wing violence. Without ever being asked. What are you doing here, man? You are better than just making shit up.9 points

So what was Biden supposed to do when his opponent wouldn’t let him speak, bullied the moderator, made personal family attacks and told countless lies? That was a shitshow but outside of walking over and decking him, I’m not sure exactly what he was supposed to do when he could barely get a word in and was purposely being interrupted to trigger his speed impediment. I know ‘just asking questions’ is a dirty phrase here but just like I asked Stanco last night I’d appreciate if some of y’all would actually state some debatable elements of your opinion vs just making a statement then calling it good.9 points

That was such a sad performance. Biden called the sitting president of the United States a clown, to his face, and completely and totally had the moral high ground in doing so, and nobody blinked- that’s how terrible and unhinged Trumps performance was. It was as if he had no idea what he needed to do to win, or if he did he had clearly no self control to make it happen. Just dumb, mean spirited, rude and lacking in any decorum or forward looking ability to process what he needed to accomplish. Worst debate performance I’ve ever seen, and that was by miles and miles worse than anything from the 2016 primaries and general election debates that he participated in. The idiots in team Trump gave Biden the lowest bar anyone has ever had to clear and then Trumps performance made it literally impossible for Biden to step on his own dick which was the only way Trump was going to win the election.9 points
-
When Biden first solidified his lead, I commented on how he might be the perfect foil to Trump because he’s an empathetic figure. A large segment of the population left the 2016 debates energized because it viscerally felt good to see Hillary get put in her place. But nobody likes to watch a bully go after Grandpa, and I think that’s a big reason why everything just felt so shitty tonight.8 points
