  2. Here's remembering those who in their military capacity lost their lives in battle and/or while in service to the country. (BTW, in case anyone wonders, the proper protocol is to fly the flag at half mast until noon, then raise it full mast).

  4. A United front behind the losing candidate who incited violence to prevent the peaceful transition of power and whose cabinet members are now calling for a Myanmar like coup against the lawfully elected US government. If you support the Republican Party right now with your vote, you are supporting the end of American democracy. Trump was and is a would be despot that is unfit for office. And that’s true no matter how many times you look in the mirror and tell yourself with waning intensity that you are not one of the bad guys.

  5. Bullshit. She voted in line with Trump's directives over 90% of the time, far more consistently than her replacement did. She was removed from her position for one thing only: she called out Trump on his bullshit lie that the election was "stolen" from him. She had the audacity to state publicly that the Republican party needed to reject the angry, nationalist rhetoric & lies that Trumpism embraced, and that they needed to return to their principles & work to repair the damages from 4 years of extremism. So you can stop pretending that she was ousted for being an anti-Trump pot banger over the years, because she was anything but that. She never publicly crossed him until the January 6th insurrection attempt fueled by Trump. Not that facts matters to the GQP cult.

  6. I posted this a few years back on facebook. It is still what I think about every memorial day, and I thought it might be appropriate here. Five summers ago I was lucky enough to get to spend a weekend with one of my heroes. Along with my grandfather, my brother, and my cousin, I attended a reunion of my grandfather's unit from World War II. It was a great time, but it also forever changed the way I look at Memorial Day. I have always had an appreciation for Veteran's Day. I know plenty of Veterans, and it happens to have been my grandmother's birthday. The problem with Memorial Day is that I didn't know anyone personally who had made the ultimate sacrifice. Poppy had told me plenty of stories about his days in the army prior to that moment, but they had tended to focus more on the positive. A completely different side of my grandfather appeared when we approached one of the first exhibits at the museum. It was simply a sign on the wall that listed all of the soldiers who had fought in his unit and given their lives for us. As I stood with Poppy, he spoke a little softer and proceeded to point out the stories behind the names. "He died right in front of me." "He was my best friend." As he continued on through many more names, both of us started to tear up. I remember at one point toward the end of the list, Poppy said that he was providing cover fire to one of the names. He then trailed off as he stated that he guessed he didn't do a good enough job. It tore me apart to see one of my heroes hurt like that, and I just wanted to make him feel better. While I felt sad, I also felt honored that Poppy had shared with me some of his heroes and how much they meant to him. Sorry if this was too long, but it's Memorial Day. Thank you to all of Poppy's brothers and sisters in arms and all of our heroes who gave everything for us.

  11. “Socially liberal but fiscally conservative” was NEVER a Republican thing. That’s bullshittery marketing to make decent people buy GQP garbage. The Republicans spend and waste WAY more money and wreck shit to leave for a Democratic President to fix. See - Clinton, Bill and Obama, Barack and Biden, Joe. You want “Socially liberal but fiscally conservative”? Then you vote for a Democrat.

  13. I had to bury a good dog this weekend. He was getting old and showing pretty serious signs of heart problems, so I knew it was a matter of time. His last moments were one last time outside on a beautiful day, mealtime, a few moments of rest, and a few minutes of labored breathing while my son and I sat on the floor with him. I had been debating for a few days if it was time to take him in to be put down, but I guess he got to go out on his own terms.

  14. Educate yourself on this. It's another common lie not based on reality. Fox News is the number 1 cable news station. A lot of local news is owned by very conservative media. Satellite radio? Owned by a Trump donor. Twitter and Facebook (and now Parlor) have been dominated by right wing personalities. Your concern is with moderation on those sites (sounds familiar). They decided to take on misinformation, which you conflate with liberal censorship. Think about that for more than 2 seconds.

  24. What's the score on this one, judges? Exceptionally lazy trolling, or borderline brilliant trolling? "The GOP isn't controlled by the lunatic fringe." "Then why did they shit can one of their most conservative leaders?" "Because she was a critic of nonsensical fraud rhetoric perpetuated by lunatics...that the GOP wants to move past with a united front...by firing or primary-ing anyone with the audacity to call the lie a lie and suggest that it's time to move on..."

  29. see, this is weird to me. it's not like the posters in the CR don't also post everywhere else on this site. and 'CR posters' that wanted to discuss the homeless camping were already posting in that thread in DT. and plenty of politics were already in that thread. and it's not like if you click on the Cloak Room heading every thread automatically opens and you are forced to read something that offends you. you can still read just that thread. i suppose if you are sensitive some of the thread titles might offend you...but i'm pretty sure most of you guys have bookmarked some porn waaay more obnoxious than 'Matt Gatz is a douchebag'. i just don't get the 'i've been participating in this discussion for 2 years but the url has changed and now i can't!' weird.

  30. Yeah there was already a big set up near the Omni on Saturday with these two douchebags with a barricade decorated with these posters “demanding a new election.” It’s funny that these stupid right wingers claim to be constitutionalists when well over 90% of what they’ve been suggesting be done by this “outrage” of a “rigged election” run in direct contradiction of anything the constitution has to say about presidential elections. And they have the fucking nerve to pretend to be offended when we call them stupid. As I said before, if they’re offended by that, then I’m offended that they’re offended.

  31. ^^Raises hand. Although my pals' and my pinnacle stunt was when we stole my sister's 8 foot, stuffed, Abominable Snowman that came from Abercrombie & Fitch, tied it's feet and arms with 50 lb test fishing line, laid it flat right around a curve coming off the Olmos Dam in Alamo Heights, and then pulled all the lines at the same time around tree trunks as a car came around the corner so that it stood straight up in the middle of the street. Car hit the snowman, tires screeching, and a woman gets out and just sits in the middle of the road Indian style crying and wailing. Of course, we hauled ass laughing our asses off, but over the years I've felt worse and worse for that poor woman. I have admit that I still laugh, though, thinking about the scene later when the cops showed up to take a report. And it did cost me a kid's fortune ($20) to get my sister never to breathe a word that her Abominable Snowman was missing. Couldn't have mom filing a police report resulting in dots getting connected post haste. Thing looked just like this minus the glasses and headband. And white, of course --
