  13. The good news is that everyone is facing the same problems. There will ultimately be an equilibrium sought naturally and the well-heeled elites will hover around that. Corporate NIL will also be a big differentiator and that works in UT's favor as well. If you're wondering about things for this offseason, Texas NIL is very aware of the need for 3 buckets of capital - one for retention, one for recruiting, one for acquiring within the portal. The belief is that both December and May (I guess April now?) are critical in this regard. The portal is more complicated than recruiting, simply because the factors for an established player are different. A QB or LT leaving a team that is expected to contend for a national title while they're projecting individually into early round slots is going to have a hard time leaving even if the NIL isn't comparable to someone else. So if you look at Banks, he'd have to want to go somewhere and learn a new system, be confident that he will start, that the program will be in the spotlight, and all the while learning a new campus and social life. He's going to do that when he's getting plenty of $$ at Texas, on a 1st round trajectory, the program appears headed upward, and the team is constantly in the national spotlight, especially as it heads towards the SEC in his junior season? In 2024, Texas gets Michigan at home in week 2, will play OU in the Cotton Bowl, will be playing ATM, Arkansas, and some of Georgia, LSU, Bama, Tenn, Florida. They will be on the national stage constantly. Every JR worth a fuck will have multiple chances to elevate their NFL prospects in ways almost no other school can offer. The expanded playoff happening more sooner than later will be a boon for teams working within the portal who are also playoff contenders. I think it also helps limit their exposure to poachers.

  14. Coach Pop stopped fucking around a few years ago. From today’s SA Express News: San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich yells in the first half during an NBA basketball game against the Minnesota Timberwolves Thursday, April 7, 2022, in Minneapolis.(AP Photo/Andy Clayton-King)Andy Clayton-King, FRE / Associated Press SAN ANTONIO – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich left Uvalde on Saturday proud of the way his players, especially the younger ones, did their best to comfort a grieving community. “We have four 19-year-olds, but these guys displayed the same maturity as Timmy (Duncan) and Manu (Ginobili) or Mario Elie or David Robinson, with the responsibility they knew they had to the community,” Popovich said. “We didn’t twist arms or anything like that. They were anxious to go. They wanted to stay longer. They get it.” But Popovich also experienced other emotions on the way back to San Antonio after the Spurs held a series of events to help comfort a community that lost 19 children and two teachers to a gunman’s rampage in May at Robb Elementary School. “(Mass shootings) have happened so often that it seems no amount of uproar from so many quarters makes much of a difference as far as trying to prevent the next one - (and) there will be a next one,” Popovich said. “And, in this particular case, you feel for the people who are hurting obviously from the pain of loss but who are also enraged and frustrated with the lack of action from our politicians.” Speaking to the media before Sunday’s preseason game with New Orleans, Popovich criticized Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick for failing to push for gun reform after the second deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. “Our governor, our lieutenant governor…they have done nothing since that massacre to make it more difficult for the next massacre to take place,” Popovich said, referring to gun reform. Parents and relatives of the Uvalde shooting victims have criticized Abbott over his inaction to address their calls for limiting access to firearms. They wanted the governor to call for a special legislative session to increase the minimum age to purchase a semi-automatic rifle in the state from 18 to 21 years old. The 18-year-old gunman in Uvalde bought two AR-15-style rifles immediately after he turned the legal purchasing age in May. “I just wonder what is in their hearts, what is in their bones,” Popovich said of Abbott and other politicians who failed to take action on gun reform after Uvalde. “It can’t just be beholding to the NRA (National Rifle Association) and the image, the pay for the job, the position, the power. It just can’t be that. If that’s it, we don’t really have a country. The fiber will disintegrate over time, and we will die from within, just like every other great nation has done.” A spokesperson for Abbott did not immediately return a request for comment. Popovich also criticized Abbott for saying “it could have been worse” while initially praising the law enforcement response to the Uvalde school shooting. Abbott later said he was “livid” about receiving inaccurate information about the poor response by law enforcement. “The information I was given turned out, in part, to be inaccurate, and I am absolutely livid about that," Abbott said at a news conference in Uvalde. “What the hell is he thinking?” when he said it could have been worse, Popovich said. “That two more could have died? It’s beyond comprehension.” Regarding Abbott saying he was “livid” about being misled, Popovich said, “He was more livid about that because he was personally embarrassed because he got told some bad info. That’s just incredulous to me. He expressed more emotion and frustration in that than he did the massacre of children and teachers. Disgusting.”

  16. Also, here's my one ask of this entire universe. I am an out of shape lawyer of a no-longer-young age. I ask the universe only this: put me in a ring with Trump for just 5 minutes. Just 5 minutes for him to show us all how "manly and masculine he is." I am no athlete or fighter....and I would whoop his ass mercilessly. There's not a part of his fat ass I couldn't kick up and down the goddamned ring. Your "alpha male" would get his ass beaten by 95% of the people in the US. Not 95% of the men, 95% of the PEOPLE. Not adult people, ALL people. Any healthy person over the age of 10 would beat his sorry ass. He's no man, he's just a fucking pussy-ass lying con-man who will cry like the little bitch that he is after the first punch is landed on his weak face. That's all I ask, universe. Give me those 5 minutes. I won't let you down.

  25. Can confirm these narratives coming from the OU/Oklahoma Sports media industrial complex. If you want the full timeline, it went something like this: November 2021: Riley is a bitch who was scared to compete in the SEC, and now that I think about it, he’s not a very good coach and was probably tanking this season (a season in which they went 11-2 and were one play from being in the Big 12 title game) February 2022: Brent Venables is a home run hire. He’s going to bring back the toughness that we lost because Riley is such a soft pussy. The defense is going to be amazing and the offense isn’t going to miss a beat with Jeff Rape Enabler Lebby and Dillon Gabriel. September 2022 (following Nebraska game): WE’RE BACK, BABY! I told you Venables was a home-run hire! It’s so nice to have a great, physical defense that flies to the ball again, and I’m telling you Dillon Gabriel is a dark horse Heisman candidate. October 2022: I mean, it’s just going to take time. Riley left the cupboard totally bare; we basically have the talent of a G5 school. Just wait until Venables gets six new 5-star defensive linemen and they are in the system for 3-4 years. Then you’re going to see a dominant defense again. And Dillon Gabriel is nothing special. But just wait until Jackson Arnold gets here. He’s the real deal.
