  1. :-)) Probably the most definitive recent comments I've heard Wiltfong make on Brandon Baker. - Expect decision early fall - Change at the top of the board (used to be Oregon) - Now, school to really keep an eye on is Texas - Ohio State 2, Nebraska wild card (will get OV in Sep) - But if we talk today, edge to Texas

  7. Just to add to this, GA Senate bill 92, which was signed into law doesn't read the way it's being twisted. Essentially speaking, a prosecutor would have to be at least indicted of a crime for the Governor to step in. The origins of this bill at least to begin with had some level of bipartisanship to it, with good reason. In Georgia we've had a problem of elected prosecutors running afoul of the law, refusing to resign, and either having the wheels of justice grind to a halt waiting for the either the criminal process to play out, an election, or worse a prosecutor continuing business as usual, and then having everything done under their watch undone because of their criminality on appeal. This issue has occurred across both sides of the aisle. For example, in the Amhaud Arbery case, in south Georgia, where the white racists vigilantes shot and killed a black guy for jogging in his neighborhood, the DA attempted to interfere in the investigation. She was charged and is awaiting trial, but in theory she could have continued her normal duties even after being indicted, to the point of even choosing to prosecute or not prosecute that case (she resigned, but in theory this was possible). The intent of the law is to prevent this sort of conflict and in such situations allow the Governor to appoint a replacement until the next election. In order for Kemp to interfere in Fulton County he can't just do it on a whim. First, he'd have to show a willingness to do so, and thus far he's shown none of that. Second, if he did attempt something like that with unsubstantiated claims or anything of the like, he'd faced legal challenges to it, including injunctions and the like. Bottom line, on the right this sort of thinking is purely magical nonsense. To the media, it's a ratings grab, and disingenuous, because they all know its not a realistic thing. Lastly, in order to change Georgia law, the session opens in January of next year and closes at the end of March. Almost all bills, even bipartisan ones don't get passed until the last day of session, right at the end of March. Further, they don't usually come into effect until Jan 1 of the following year (2025 in this instance). Now special sessions can be called, but this is extremely unlikely. Also, I am unaware of any law being retroactively put into effect.

  8. wait wait wait wait wait... the people getting benefit right now are people that, when they signed up and as terms of the loan, the government agreed that if those people used an IDR plan and made 20 years of payments they would have their loans forgiven. the people getting loans forgiven right now are people who complied with terms of the agreement as it was written but because of various fuckwaddery in the byzantine system that is the student loan bureaucracy in this country they had been denied the benefit of the contract that they entered into. now, i know this won't cause you any sort of reflection that maybe you need to reconsider things. you'll just be onto the next ill-considered conservative grievance about takers tomorrow.
