The Guitar Pron Thread

Do you guys have your amps sitting on the floor, or do you have a stand or piece of furniture or something? I had a cheap stand that I used when I was gigging with a Blues Jr, and then when I got the Matchless I got a flight case (and so would stick it on top of the top part of that), but I'm trying to finish/furnish the fun half of my office and can't find the right thing. I was looking for some kind of media console or storage piece with a hutch that I could put it on top of (and have some shelves or drawers for gear underneath as well as some extra book and other hobby storage, but I may not be able to find the right thing and just look for a nice looking amp stand. Or am I insane for wanting to get my amp off the ground? I always felt like it made a difference.

I much prefer them off the ground. Easier to twiddle the knobs and you can hear them better. I’ll try to dig up where I got those stands.

I should have gone wireless ages ago. Amp on the patio, me on the deck...

This. I just did it a few weeks ago. Life altering. And mind bottling why I never did it before.

I swear I brought up wireless a couple years ago and some folks (not y’all) killed me for it. I think it’s awesome.

Deej's strat made me think this question might get some answers.  How much rust on pickup pole pieces is too much so that you break out the salt and lemon juice.  My 1990 tele bridge poles are pretty rusty.  Still plays great, and I'm all for mojo, but I want the pickups to outlast me.

I'd leave it alone. At least until they no longer sound great.

It's great, but I'm nowhere near the control tower.

Deej, that is part of the work still to be done. We weren't expecting these until May. We're getting media mail sleeves that make shipping super cheap. Ill update when this is ready for distribution.

I got to listen today. Sounds good to me, as good as we're ever gonna sound anyway.

Put me on the list please.

That's my inclination.  I guess I always can have them rebuilt somewhat at the point they stop being what I've loved so far.   It's such a bad mutha into a a cranked 1x12 Harvard or my 73 Deluxe Reverb.  Just oozes rock.

You saw what mine look like, and they sound fantastic.

I'm mainly looking at the high E pole piece, which has a bit of crumble look to it.

I think its brief prior owner stored pipe tobacco in the case.  The moisture did its thing and the smell of the guitar and case to this day is heavenly.  It's apparently the best relic'ing technique.

Haha.  I was still trying to recover from my wife dropping the city of Austin manhole cover from our water shutoff on two of my fingers.  I’m resigned to just teaching right now.  I can’t imagine having it that bad.  I still have the reach (finger porn)

Is this to say that a 9” spread is good? Or that spreading means no arthritis yet? I ask, because I just measured as well.

Probably more 8 7/8ths inches than 9 inches, but I prefer shorter scale & slimmer necks/nuts (I’m still in the chords only phase based within the first three to four frets.

Let’s see everyone’s number ones.  The last guitar you would part with if it came down to it. Mine is this ‘63 Telecaster reissue.  Perfect neck and scale length for my hands.   The neck pickup is smooth like butter and the bridge growls like a beast.  That a Tele would be my number 1 has surprised me, because I never thought I liked teles.  I went looking for one as a niche guitar to fill out a collection and then bam, I played this and was like “Whoa...”.  I’ll cycle through my guitars and they are all nice and bring something a little different to the table, but every time I get back to this Tele I have that same reaction.

This is my number 1. It's probably an '85 even though the serial number starts with E3 (the '83s and '84s were top loaders and not thru-body).

I found it in a pawnshop on Lamar Rd back in 1997, and it's been tweaked and tweaked throughout the years.  The electronics were all replaced - Seymour Duncan Broadcaster in the bridge, Fender Texas Special in the neck, 4-way switch, and I may not have known what a capacitor does and left it off when rewiring. The bridge has a is vintage rock tone without much twang, the neck is just pure glass. The body is beat up, the neck has a cigarette burn, and some frets still buzz, but it just sounds so good.

Several years ago, I was ready to trade it in for a black-on-black American Strat. Thanks to those of you who talked me out of it.

This is a big day for me. Ive popped my vinyl cherry!

We had a ship date of May for our self produced album from the manufacturer, so we planned a June release. In this day and age where everything takes forever, we were incredibly shocked and happy to learn they shipped earlier this week and arrived today! The CD's we ordered for promo arrive Tuesday, and we'll set a new release date for everything next week - maybe Friday May 13.

If nothing else, I have a new appreciation for all the work that putting a record out. Writing and recording the songs is the easy part. This has been extremely rewarding.

Ill probably cross post this in a couple related threads.

That’s a good price for the HSS.

If you like the neck and like the look, the rest can be tweaked.

The Classic Vibe will have a slimmer neck across and front to back.

CV nut: 42mm

Player: 43mm

The CV neck will have a gloss back.

The Player neck is satin on the back.

Damnit, now I want it

tbone, our paths have been similar over the last few years. Forming that band, writing these songs, and making this record is what I did in the wake of my divorce. It was incredibly therapeutic. Listen to the track, "Goodbye". I wrote that right in the depths of it and I'm very proud of it.

Listen to 06 Goodbye by Racer5 #np on #SoundCloud

Totally get it and good for you. Just looked back and we’ve played over 100 paid gigs in the last 20 months or so. Been a really cool ride. Only covers for us so far, but we’re up to 175 songs or so now. Singer, and now GF, has big dreams and has proven successful in the past in achieving them so we’ll see.

Btw, couldn’t make that sound cloud link work for some reason.
