Is the tide turning?

As much as the thought of a second Trump term worries me, it seems like in the last three to four weeks momentum has greatly shifted away from that outcome. The economy slowing, trade war losing, gun violence AGAIN, and other things all seemingly being potentially too much for Trump to shrug off. Ya, ya, ya... queue the "I'd like to see ol Donny Trump wriggle his way out of this!", but it definitely feels like there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for us waiting out this administration.

Are some Trump supporters actually starting to question if this really is the best direction for the country, or is this just wishful thinking?

No, nothing matters. It's your imagination and what logic dictates should be happening, but it's a cult of personality.

All of that's the Dems fault. Don't you know nothing?

I think what you have to watch for is 1) members of his core base actually hurting due to Trump policies, 2) the willingness of the rich and traditional conservatives to continue the deal with the devil. I'm not sure if either have changed much in the last few weeks but people in 1), think farmers, Midwestern working class whites, seem to be questioning him.

I say this not as a Conservative, or even as a spokesman for Conservatism, but simply as an observer.  If the platforms of the Democrats running for President are to be taken at face value, many Conservatives and moderates will vote for President Trump for the same reason we did last time: fear of Socialism.

That said, candidates for each party always hafta go extreme in the primaries, and all the dumb stuff you hear Warren, Sanders, etc saying they'd disavow after being elected.  Every President, from both sides, always does it.  Regardless, the fear is real.

Actually, for the first (ish) time, his approval numbers for the economy are headed down.

Because of the inversion of the yield curve but that could just mean a recession is coming 20 months from now after the election happens. People will forget about it well before then. If the recession comes before the election...well then yeah I don't think he'll win again.

Oh, so now there was widespread fear that Hillary Clinton would lead us into "Socialism"?  THAT'S your new perspective?

Pick a story and stick with it.

If you ignore the broad use of socialism, he's right.

Many candidates are running a losing battle with their primary message: Universal health insurance and decriminalization of border crossing comes to mind.  With the exception of Biden, the democratic candidates are playing to convince the DNC, not the nation.

...but it is a primary...so idk.

Well, I don't think this quarter will end up as the first half of a recession.  It's slowing, but I don't see how Q2 is negative GDP growth.  So that leaves Q4, and then 3 quarters in 2020.  2020 Q4 will have the election in the middle of it, so that one is out.  That leaves a total of 4 quarters that would need 2 of them, in succession, to be considered a recession.  We all know that part, so look at the calendar...the only combos are Q4 & Q1, Q1 & Q2, and Q2 & Q3.  4 & 2, or 1 & 3 also don't result in a recession. And doesn't matter if the Q3 starts the recession because we won't know that until we've been to the polls.  So the actual path to a recession happening with the right quarters at the right times is narrower than many think.  I would necessarily campaign or bank on a "recession hurts Trump" ethos.  Because you might not see a technical recession on his watch, in time.  I'd stick to something more simple like, "National Asshole cools down economy while tweeting from shitter."

People will think I’m crazy, but the only thing I’m focused on right now is continuing to narrow the margin in the senate and keeping the house. I just NEVER want to see Trump with full government power again. That’s when he tries to pass legislation which pleases the Alabama’s and arkansas’s of the world. The only problem with that is about 60-70% of Americans oppose the plans his administration comes up with ( see Obamacare repeal).

You could almost take Q4 out. That one is always pretty good because of Christmas shopping.

Brainwashing ?  Is that like when one party controls both houses of Congress for about 50 years (1954-1994) and the black folks who voted for them are still in the same predicament as they were back before civil rights were even enacted ?  Now it's illegal immigrants the democrats want to "help" (buy votes).....  Yeah brainwashing how does it work ?  The hypocrisy of some of your fuckers who ignore reality is astounding.  Show me a democrat controlled city where the education systems are really better now, the standard of living in the minority communities is better today.  I'll wait....

The brainwashing has been a bipartisan effort, that’s the problem.   You’re missing the big picture by pointing fingers at the other party.  That’s what they want you to do.  Divide and profit then divide and profit some more.

The only way out of this is for the country to come together and reject the bullshit that’s been propagated for the last four generations.  It’s a tall order and I don’t see any evidence that we’re up for it.  I can still hope though.  It will take a special kind of leadership to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

They're still justifying, or at best ignoring, trump's racism, antisemitism, mental health, the shadow government in which cabinet secretaries haven't been confirmed by anyone, kids in cages, increased taxes, an exploding budget deficit, and rampant corruption.  And blaming the dems, Hillary, Obama, and socialism.

The tide will never turn.  Things will get ever crazier, and the cult will continue to blame everyone else for their idiocy.

There are millions of people today furiously typing away on the internet about how stupid the US would be to NOT buy Greenland, despite having never once thought about the topic before 72 hours ago.  Any idea that their leader comes up with has to be correct, no matter how incomprehensible.

It's a fucking cult full of stupid, gullible people, and there is nothing that will ever convince the majority of them to turn.

I think the tide is turning as far as driving people out to vote against him.  The true Trumpkins won't stop clinging to Trump, but he's definitely driving away a lot of "anybody but Hillary" voters, and I'm seeing it within my own family and friends - people who are pissed about El Paso and some of the other stuff, and now he's pissing off Jews .I was not paying attention to the news much for the past 24 hours, but I saw my Facebook feed blow up with a shitload of friends/relatives getting really fucking pissed off over the Jewish stuff.  Granted, I have quite a few Jewish friends and some family members, so it's anecdotal - many may not notice too much anger if they don't have Jewish friends and family.

You're not gonna swing votes your way with that attitude, Friend.

The votes you're talking about won't swing. Your first post lists the possible negatives of a Dem candidate without even a comparison to the known negatives of the GOP in office. It reflects just how badly you don't want to consider changing your vote.

Your second post represents your last absurd bastion in holding on to Trump: The Dems are just too insulting to we polite GOPs. Your side calls the Clintons murderers, the Obamas closet Muslim terrorists, and Obama himself the most divisive president in history.

Don't look now or for the last 30 years, but your political party is based on hateful lies and just plain hate.

You're doing everything you can to run from the truth of the last sentence in the post that hurts your feelings and makes befriending you difficult:

You voted for him because you wanted to.  You were not forced.

The frenetic pace of the flip flopping is increasing. Now he won't visit Denmark if they won't let him play with the toy Greenland. If I was dumb enough to be a Trump supporter, I would have to think I would be gettting tired of trying to ignore all factual information before me. Instead attempting to rationalize my support for him, via "you can't trust the numbers (facts), deep state, distortions of the numbers.  Good Trump, bad Obama logic. That's embarassment is also why he will always somewhat slightly  under poll IMHO. Investment and business community is realizing that long term planning by toilet throne tweet on trade is... well not.. making you want to make any long term decisions today...  That sort of thinking never bodes well for the economy long term simply because it depresses large capital investment. In other words, Fed can't fix stupid.

Still a long way off, and do not be surprised if Trump launches military strikes to try and get a rally round the commander-in-chief.

In essence the only way to explain support for Trump at this point is to insist that facts are not facts? Employment? Obama created more jobs going in same economy. Obama had lower deficits. Trump will preside over the 4 largest deficit years ever produced by a sitting president. racial unrest? Check! and on and on... I get tired thinking about it because I could type for an hour and still not list all the flip flops in the last month. Supporters with brains and educations can only fool themselves for so long.  That number is now at a solid 38%.

It's hard to find a really bright woman well educated woman these days that is willing to say in a public setting (unless they are drunk as shit) that Trump is doing a fantastic job. They may believe it, but they don't want to publicly admit is, because of the ridicule. From really bright well educated women they think are their peer group! That thinking isn't going to trun back in 15 months.

Disappointing to see you write that. I don't know where you live, but "black folks" have gained access to education, jobs, opportunities, whites only water fountains, the vote, whites only bathrooms, government, and business management forbidden to them in 1954.

Huge numbers of black folks have managed to escape the worst of the tyranny of slavery and racist policy due to the legislation and execution of the legislative bodies you decry.

It's a fallacious to point to a broad statistic such as the % of persons in poverty and assume that poverty has not been impacted by Dem legislation of the 50s and 60s. The issue addressed was ability to escape poverty and have opportunity. You can't walk through a business office, government building, law court, officer's club, or elite neighborhood without encountering people of color who themselves or their forebears seized the opportunity that was presented.

But let's shut down those programs and policies because of the pittance they cost so we can shovel more to big business or directly to the wealthy who run big business.

Those people were already there.  I can't speak for anyone but myself.  But with your example of pissing off your Jewish friends and family we were already pissed off.  I, and my friends and family, were pissed off at trump back during the campaign.  And if it was possible to get worse, maybe the Soros memes, white supremacists shooting up synagogues while trump complains about the rain in Pittsburgh, throwing out a fake love for the Jews as excusing racist tweets, or locking kids in cages, certainly made it worse long before trump's anti-semitism yesterday.

Hell, it's barely made the news, but Jewish groups have been protesting outside ICE facilities pretty constantly over the past few years.  And it's barely a blip on the radar that a prison guard ran his truck into some of these protesters.

To the extent I'm more angry, it's not at trump.  Because I was enraged and motivated  long ago.   And frankly, he's a demented, mentally ill, moron.  It's his fucking enablers.  Including his voters.  Especially the ones who are quiet and pretend to not be supporting this crap.  I genuinely don't know at this point how to be with the (non-Jewish) members of my family who support him, or my friends who voted for him, and are fine with this anti-semitic crap.  Or at least fine enough that they'll throw out bullshit about socialism, and stay quiet, and vote for him again.

But, regarding the tide turning, none of this fucking matters.  He's further angering those who were angry already.  And further dividing the country.  And the 40% fucking love it, even if they're quiet about it.  And nothing's changed except further divisions.
