Tommy's the last person I'd ever want in the foxhole.  Motherfucker is a coward and a quitter.

Fuck Tommy Tuberville.  It's no wonder Israel scares the shit out of him.

There’s not a person alive who believes Jugs’ obstruction is rooted in any kind of moral principle. He’s just a mean old dumb hillbilly from Itchy Hill, Arkansas who is punching way above his weight.
You can watch the GOP Senators seething with anger live on C-SPAN during the WS commercial breaks.

The blanket monster is coming for Tuberville.  It's running very late, but dude is gonna get a beating like no other.

Nothing like seeing a christofascist impact my nations defense readiness in service of their project 2025 shit. You do realize that as these good officers are seeing their careers delayed, it's holding the door open for the far right extremists officers to attain promotion? This fuckery is part of that.

Don't make it something it isn't.  Tuberville is pissing everyone off, not just the left.  His objections are not rooted in the qualifications of the candidates, but rather simple disruption.

The tactic is hardly unique to Tuberville though.  He just chose a really fucked up place to deploy it.

Graham says it best that if/when the GOP takes over, the Dems will just do this right back. There is always party politics in the Senate but the senate only works if they play somewhat nice to each other at the end of the day.

if a Senator acts like an extreme House rep, the Senate ceases to work.

How bout you don't ignore something just because it won't affect you in the next quarter? It's possible for one action to pay off multiple schemes - including the far rights stated goal of replacing every federal employee with fascist sympathizers and hardliners.

We've literally played this game before of "well SURELY they won't do something so crazy" - it's how we got trump. Learn from the past.

Keep fightin those windmills, bro.

Tommy Tuberville has just chosen to jam his flag into a pain point that is pretty universally viewed as a bullshit move, even for politicians.

He's doing it because he can, not for any specific effect.  You give him way too much fucking credit.

He's a shitbag.  It's been known for a minute or two.

You could also describe trump in the same vein. Just because someone lacks scruples or any sort of central moral guiding principle doesn't mean they can't do generational damage to our society.

I just don't get the reflexive defense of republican fuckery as "it's not that bad bro" from all the "reformed" MAGA voters

Why did these need to be passed as unamimous consent?   Why didn't Schumer bring each one to a vote individually if that was a thing?   Something is fishy here besides Tubs.

He's doing it to hold Schumer and the Ds hostage. If Schumer gave in, he'd only reinforce the behavior. Also, Tubs is coming across as a complete idiot now so why get in his way?

Mainly so that they wouldn't spend all of their time in session going down a list and casting the same vote 300+ times. It enables scalability of the Senate, and tubz is basically DDOSing our legislature with this tactic.

It would be one thing if he had actual, specific issues with the people in question, but he doesn't. This is just another lever he can pull to slow things down, and in the proud tradition of fascists, is weaponizing a civil mechanism to inflict pain on his perceived political enemies.

This.  Unanimous consent exists to streamline business - what should be uncontroversial things, like military promotions, can be done quickly so other business can be done.  Senator Window Escapee is gumming up Senate business by opposing unanimous consent and forcing voice votes on hundreds of military promotions.  Now they have to have voice votes to manage debate and schedule a vote before the actual vote. UC just cuts out the voice votes and you go straight to the actual vote.

It's no different than what Rand Paul is doing with ambassadors.  A systemic dismantling of the State and Defense departments via throwing wrenches into gears.

Sure, they can do damage, but Tuberville doesn't have some nefarious scheme going on.  With Trump, it's all about The Grift - the money angle (campaign funds) and transactional relationships ultimately drive everything.

Ultimately, it's Hanlon's Razor - "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."  With Tuberville, it's all about the stupidity - he *thinks* he's exercising power over the Senate as a whole.

There's a reason why so many Republicans trashed the shit out of Tuberville last night rather than spend their time bashing Schumer - they ultimately don't want Schumer to cave in to Tuberville, because as Lindsey Graham put it (and I hate to agree with him) - the Dems could easily do the same to the Republicans in the future, and as @dieucla98 mentioned, it would reinforce Tuberville's behavior.

Tuberville is a toddler throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of the store because he is not getting something he wants (something that he believes got him elected).  And like a toddler, he doesn't realize that past a certain amount of time, this is no longer merely embarrassing his parents (GQP), it's downright fucking pissing them off.

I get all that but this has held up promotions for months.   At some point, you move on.

Typically they drop their protest eventually after getting something they want.  Tuberville doesn't want anything reasonable - he's fucking enjoying this.

Also the amount of other business Schumer has to focus on than spending days and days on voice votes for promotions - judges, government funding, Ukraine/Israel aid, permitting reform, NDAA, Farm Bill

The best thing that came out of this is how much the GOP caucus now hates Tuberville.

Graham understands that if Tuberville gets his way on this and forces Schumer to do a one-by-one taking up a shitload of time, then Tuberville will keep doing this, because this is not about Tuberville actually trying to get something he wants - he and everybody else knows that it won't happen, and his Republican colleagues even told him to his face last night that he's not going to get what he wants.

The Marine Corps Commandant having a heart-attack, and the situation around the acting/stand-in Commandant has brought this to a head, but I don't know what will happen from here.

We know though, that if Tuberville is able to force them to individually vote on every single promotion, that will take up a shitload of time, potentially even a week or two depending on fast they can vote on over 300 individual officers (and I'm sure Tuberville or somebody can drag those votes out).  And Tuberville knows this and he's just being a fucking idiot and dickhead.

He's clearly relishing this.

For the same reason you don't just give your child candy for dinner cause they keep crying about it and it would be easier to give in and "move on".   Give in and the fuckery multiplies.

"Sure they tried the violent coup once and it only failed because the military refused to go along with it. Why would you think they would try to replace military leadership with loyal cronies and try again?"

The Dems wouldn’t do this. I know this because they haven’t and also their base doesn’t reward the intransigence of toddlers as does the current GQP.
