It was nice of the Mind Flayer to change from a highly intelligent telekinetic shadow monster who communicated across space to a screaming fleshy crab thing pretty easily deterred by some fire. Other than that loved the ending.

Someone pointed out that the Abyss sequence looked like the Linkin Park video for In The End. Duffer Bros must be huge fans.

I am cool with the end being ambiguous. One of the other things I went back and checked was in the last scene, Mike’s mom called them up for dinner. I wondered why that shot of her was included there, so I went back to see it. It is a little too blurry, but I wanted to see if she had the scars. She did not have visible scars on her body, I thought I saw the throat scar, but it was not clear on my screen.

Where does Max live and how did she graduate after being in a coma for two years?

I just checked and can't make out anything.

You could see her scars at graduation. Vividly

Not enough crying.

I think Steve was the only character who did not have at least one crying scene.

Graduation was part of the story, not the reality. The only reality may have been the two scenes, beginning and end, where they are playing D&D.

she has them in the video in her green tank top. Probably bad lighting or angle

Want to add that the music was fantastic in the finale. Heroes is probably in my top 10 all-time.

Pixies and cowboy junkies too

Purple Rain was great too.

I don’t know if we can blow up the upside down to the dulcet tones of the Butthole Surfers.

Because not seeing visible scars on Mike's mom would obliterate the credibility of this show.

it doesn't seem vague to me...they are all crying. why would they be crying if they were just playing/finishing a D&D game.

Really great way to wrap it up with plenty of denouement. Loved the callback to the beginning with the next group of kids running down the stairs to play d&d. Mike's explanation and the others choosing to believe it is much more satisfying from a story telling perspective than just telling you everyone lived happily ever after.

I chuckled when my family talked about how they really don’t care about worrying if the spores are bad to breathe in this season and how they no longer cover their faces only to have the nurse Vickie bring it up towards the end and it’s shrugged off.

Equal amount of thought seemingly went into both worlds, too.

$400+ million dollar budget and we get an unremarkable, barren, generic CGIscape with a giant crab in the middle.

Guess I’m in the minority in thinking that the finale was just ok. It was all very predictable and the last 45m or so of emotional monologue stuff dragged. I also don’t like how they left things with El’s story. We really didn’t get any surprise twists n the end game, they went with a very safe ending which is whatever. My kids are huge ST fans and they were also underwhelmed.

Cara Buono has had a career. The Sopranos, Mad Men, and Stranger Things.

Does she have another blockbuster in her future? Any casting director would be wise to cast her as a lucky rabbit’s foot.

I’m honestly kind of surprised Erica wasn’t featured much in season 5 or the finale

Doomlet was too young for the show until now, so we binged from start to finish over Christmas break, finishing up today. This is what he's most hung up on, too.

Out of curiosity, I kept track of how many separate times we heard the Kate Bush song. 11 instances in S4, 10 in S5.

My continuity gripe is that Max has two different pro-quality skateboards in S2 and then again later on in S3 or S4, but she's riding a crappy generic department store board during the finale. No skater would ever go from good equipment to bad like that.

I had the same initial reaction to Will's long coming out scene as someone else mentioned upthread, but I imagine that it might have been validating or comforting or reassuring or whatever to a fair number of kids in the audience trying to come to terms with that same thing in their lives right now, so I'm glad the show gave it the time and attention it did, despite taking up a lot of very limited and precious time as the plan came together.

Overall, I liked how it ended.

I thought the actor who played Billy was excellent, and was disappointed to learn that he's basically given up acting in anything but arthouse films.

This was a show that became a bonding experience with my two kids. It started so simple with just enjoying the show and answering their questions about being a kid in the 80s. It developed to us genuinely loving the characters and plenty of theory conversations and impatiently waiting for the next season. One of the best family trips we have taken was to Atlanta to see the filming locations and take hundreds of photos and recreations.

It hit me different when it all ended last night. My kids are teens now and aged out of some of the joys of youth of innocence. It made me sad knowing I have one less activity they still enjoy doing with their dad.

This. It’s been a great bond with the littles over the last few years and it’s kinda fitting that after this year I’ll be an empty nester. I can’t pretend to fully understand the upside down, wormholes, and dimension X though. I enjoyed it overall though for sure .

My biggest gripe about S5 was Linda Hamilton's comically large wig. Kim Mulkey-esque.

There were a few scenes where I wondered if it was something left over from Matthew Modine's equally bighaired character's prop/costume equipment.

I’ll tread lightly here. I think the internet’s biggest problem with Will’s coming out scene was the audience and his friends already knew he was gay. It’s a big dramatic build up for a very anticlimactic scene. Hence, the Madea parodies.

I've seen it joked that Will's coming out scene was longer than the final battle with the Mind Flayer and Vecna.

Is that Moltisanti's wife Kelli? No wonder she stirred the loins. Still hot.

Correct. Probably the least bitchy of the wives on the show and absolute smoke.

I can't believe I watched this entire show and never realized that's who that was.

When the Soprano's originally aired, I thought Kelli was plain and Adriana was hot. On rewatch, Kelli seemed much more attractive and Adriana was meh.

The shot of Eleven at the end sort of explained some of her wardrobe selections during the last season.

"Ok, let's wrap them again, then a sports bra, then a bulky sweatshirt, then a burlap sack."

Anyone get ROTJ vibes in the final battle? Luke vs Vader in the Death Star while the buddies attack it from the outside.

Yeah, they even referenced it during the show.

Must've been transplants from SEC country.
