Hell, I'd forgotten Lagway even went to Willis. Bad choice, kid.

I believe aggy was his only other serious option. Odd recruitment. He only took an official visit to Florida.

Last 3 unofficial visits before committing to Florida: Clemson, Baylor, USC.

He was allegedly a Texas lock, but Arch Manning coming to Austin meant that he was heading somewhere else. He could have gone anywhere. He chose to see the places he did and sign where he signed.

Our own proclivity for playing like shit on offense is way scarier than anything Florida is going to throw at us. And that’s plenty of reason to take a cautious approach to this game as a fan.

I expect to see a full DJ, helping to rally the team for Billy.  Expect nothing but the Gators best in two weeks.  If we come out with a 1pt victory, I’ll call it a success.  A “W” is a “W,” score be damned, just saying.

The rumor is that Lagway is seriously considering a redshirt. Doering acknowledged that as a concern on SEC radio this morning and that dude is in UF’s offices daily.

The walking boot is apparently part of whatever negotiation is being attempted, or a threat regarding his interest in sticking around.

Well I'm glad he's really focused on preparing for Texas.

Fuck would they rally for Billy? He's 20-22 in four years. It's like Texas players rallying for a worse Tom Herman.

No doubt.  But even as bad as Napier has been, in a different era it might still happen.  Players who are stuck with the program with no obvious, easy options, might choose to throw it all on the line to attempt to save a coach they presumably liked well enough at some point, to grant their commitment.

But in today's portal/NIL world, the good players are more likely to pack it in, shut it down, and check out their options for transfer.

Considering the season, and coaching, it's hard to argue that Lagway shouldn't fold it up. The guy can heal, transfer to somewhere medium to upper program, and have a chance to rehab his career from there. Hell, maybe he'd be next in line at Tennessee. Doesn't Penn State need a new QB next year because Allar is a senior, right? There will be options. Meanwhile playing on Florida seems like a recipe to get him murdered, and what is he really learning and growing from this experience? It seems more likely that the guy is legitimately just getting shell shocked.

Pretty interesting situation and I'm curious with your insight on NIL contracts.  It's common knowledge UF ponied up bigtime to keep him after last season.  Surely teams are protecting against "voluntary redshirts" 4 games in right?  How do they typically do that?  Because I know you can't structure it as "pay for play" and obviously no player is going to sign anything (even if legal) that is contingent on being healthy.  But surely that contract somehow protects against a player voluntarily sitting after a shitty start to retain eligibility and portal out next year.  Wonder if he is trying to take the position (via the walking boot) that he's injured and can't play.  That might could work for a week or 2 but not the rest of the season.

The other interesting issue from Lagway's perspective is that his value in the market next year has surely taken a hit.  Of course, if he doesn't trust the offense, I guess he can take the position in portal negotiations that he was never healthy and it was really Billy's offense (rather than his awful decision making) that resulted in poor performance.

I'm pretty far away from NIL contracts at this point, but my understanding has been consistent with your thoughts. I absolutely think the boot is a way of negotiating something with UF, whether that's for Napier or for something else. Lagway famously threatened to walk last year if they cut Napier loose and, of course, they turned the buyout efforts towards NIL once that was made clear. Would the powers that be within the Florida network care this time? Seems iffy.

Lagway has everything you'd want in a QB if you choose to ignore the notion that he's made of glass. It wouldn't be an Iamaleava thing if he hit the portal. Anyone in vague need of a QB would be on him and telling both themselves and Lagway that they can fix him.

Agree in general, though Penn State has never understood how to leverage a QB

I'd probably follow over to Miami or Oregon myself , Tennessee not a bad option either. he's going to have some options where they are only a QB from staying in contention

The PFF grades are out for Florida's game versus Miami. They're ... not good.

Worth noting:

-The OL scores suck. We think we've had bad OL scores? UF's mostly look like Connor Stroh's.

-Three of the highest scoring defenders all left the game with serious injuries. Dijon Harrison (CB) is done for the year or most of it and just had surgery. Bett, the DT, left with a lower leg injury and did not return. Gates, another DB, left with a shoulder injury and is unlikely to play next week.

-Sturdivant, the UCLA WR transfer, scored the best on the WR front, but then he also left the game with an injury and did not return.

Spoiler

Gators head coach Billy Napier described what has been a familiar result to UF fans this season on Saturday, acknowledging a solid defensive effort and an abysmal offensive performance following Florida's 26-7 loss to No. 4 Miami in Week 4.

Pro Football Focus' assessment of Florida's showing reflects Napier's assessment.

Only four Gators earned average-or-better offensive grades against the Hurricanes on Saturday, whereas 16 UF defenders met that mark, including cornerbacks Cormani McClain and Dijon Johnson, the only two Florida players on either side of the ball to receive good-to-high-quality evaluations.

"I do think that our kids battled their tail off," said Napier. "I think in particular defensively, it was an incredible effort. Obviously not good enough on offense. We didn't generate enough yards or points. The first half was a trial of errors. Not many plays where we executed well at all. We had mental errors of protection on third down, and really struggled to stack any good plays together. You know, we had four three-and-outs and six punts in the first half.

"I do think the kids responded at halftime. The staff did a great job of putting together a good script. We found some running game there early in the second half, and able to kind of make it a football game there, 13-7, and get a takeaway, right, and in position there with a fourth down, got to have it. You come up a little bit short on the 30-yard line. And then, obviously, at that point, the game kind of gets out of control with a couple of short fields late. But in general, you know, our kids competed. I do think that I'm proud of the way the kids showed up and the effort in which they played with."

Each week, Swamp247 will compile Florida's individual player grades from Pro Football Focus to offer the outlet's perspective on the contributors' performances. The PFF grading system evaluates every player on every play during a football game to determine an all-around score for their showing.

Find PFF's overall offensive and defensive grades from Florida's Week 4 loss to Miami below.

All grades are on a 0-to-100 scale and are listed in descending order. Read more about PFF's grading scale and processes here

Given our history playing against hobbled QBs, I expect him to run for 100 yards against us while wearing the walking boot. Or maybe his backup comes in with a peg leg and runs for a mere 70 yards.

A player can play in 4 games max and retain the ability to redshirt. Not surprisingly, there are rumors of multiple players contemplating phoning in the rest of the season across the country. I'm sure we'll get at least one news story from someone sitting out from here forward. A QB at NCSU did it last year or the year before, but I know there are others that I'm failing to recall.

Regarding a medical redshirt, I'm not a staunch rules dork, so I have no idea. Someone would have to go look that up.

Think medical is 30 or 33%. Something like that.
