So, back to that legalization thing

It isn’t a bipartisan issue in Texas.

Correct.
And even the GQP voters who claim to support it, well, they’re doing the GQP thing and lying. At the very least, they say one thing (support it) and do the opposite (repeatedly vote for people who will fight legalization). GQP voters are either liars, or morons: those are your only two choices.

Even if the policies they vote for are detrimental to them or their families, many people will vote R just to “ OWN THE LIBS”. I always got a good laugh at those morons who lived literally on the border of Texas and Mexico. They voted for Trump thinking he would magically conjure up a wall that wouldn’t to thru their land, but then were shocked and outraged when he wanted to build thru their property.

. play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

Texas high schoolers caught with legal delta 8 vape pens sold at gas stations are getting arrested because the cops can't determine whether the juice contains the legal or illegal form of THC. When in doubt about whether a teenager's conduct is even illegal, I reckon it's always best to arrest them, suspend them from school, and generally try to fuck up their lives with a felony charge. Possible cause is the new probable cause in Texas.

Every legislative session in Texas veterans storm the capitol hoping to get access to legal medical marijuana because it’s much easier on their bodies then the cocktail of drugs doctors prescribe to help with ptsd or war related injuries. Mothers of children with epilepsy come to the capitol to try and get access to legal marijuana for their children because nothing else has worked.

Overwhelming evidence is presented in favor of the benefits of medical legalization and decriminalizing marijuana, but Dan Patrick listens to the Texas rural sheriffs association who use an outdated report from the early 2000’s that says marijuana will make kids stupid and violent.

nothing fun will pass in Texas until bathroom Dan is gone.

The whole veteran thing triggers me bigly. I have to suppress thinking about this kind of stuff to stay in this willfully ignorant as fuck state (I'd likely be in Colorado already if my law license worked there).

Texas is like Mississippi, except we have money and oil. That’s the only difference. All the racism, closed mindedness, and stupidity that is prevalent in Mississippi/ Alabama also exists here.

the state legislature is run by a bunch of crazy ass weird people who are so obsessed with not becoming like California and New York that they will even resist changing somethings that those blue states do well like legalizing pot or expanding Medicaid just to “ own them” even tho the people who live here and vote for such politicians literally suffer from not benefitting from said policies.

I like when the right wing surly posters pop into this threads feigning support. They all still vote for Abbott, Patrick and all the other fascists dickheads.

Y’all are cute.

Indeed. In 2024, they'll also vote a 3rd time for a presidential candidate who has routinely called for the execution of drug dealers like they do in the Philippines.

don't worry, if they're lobbying that hard that means it'll pass by like an 80-20 margin

just read the article. these fucking people:

Two of the group’s biggest problems with the legalization initiative are a provision that would allow renters to consume cannabis on a landlord’s property and, “second, and much more importantly,” a disallowance of evidence of marijuana use in child custody cases.

Who cares if they're consuming edibles?  Landlords don't prevent tenants from drinking alcohol.  If you have a no smoking provision in your lease that would cover marijuana smoking too.

Also, if evidence of alcohol use can be offered in custody cases I don't see why evidence of marijuana use couldn't be as well.  It just wouldn't be "criminal" conduct.

That's stupid.

Republicans are so afraid of change even when it’s something will benefit 90% of the people in the state. It’s sickening.

I voted for it this morning. It's a special election and this is literally the only thing on the ballot. A month ago I thought it would pass easy with mostly supporters showing up and most people forgetting or not paying attention to the voting date. But the last month the Tulsa DA has been on a pearl clutching tour telling everyone how bad its gonna be. Some outside influence has to have come in and starting paying people off. The goddamned Tulsa Chamber of Commerce came out against it, and they almost never take positions like this. The board members have to have been paid or had something offered to do something so stupid. I'm worried it got the rurals bumpkins fired up to vote against it. I hope it passes if for no other reason than to tell the pearl clutchers to fuck off. I'm good as is with my medical card, but there is no argument against it that has any logic. I've been telling people that if you are against this, you necessarily need to promote a return to prohibition of alcohol. If not, you're a hypocrit, because all of the negative externalities you're crying about when it comes to weed is a ten-fold problem with alcohol. Bad workers? How many are high, and how many are drunk or hungover? How many domestic violence calls involve alcohol and how many involve purely weed (my guess on the latter would be zero.zero). My brain literally cannot fathom the disconnect from the prohibitionists at this point. It's fucking 2023, William Randolph Hearst has been dead for 70 fucking years, get over it already.

Lots of votes still to count in Tulsa and OKC so it'll get closer, but I don't think it'll pass. The nutters got to the rural bumpkins. Chugging Milwaukees Best on the job bitching about "those people" who smell like pot draggin' down the economy.

I think some psycho billionaire in Texas is doing whatever he can to keep pot illegal. The Texas legislature doesn’t even consider it, bathroom Dan kills progress everytime. The governor is hostile to it.

wouldn’t surprise if it’s some anonymous Texas billionaire with a lot invested in big pharma / private prisons paying people off and doing all he can to keep people from getting high. Pretty sad and fucked up.

Something definitely happened over the last month or so. There wasn't much out there, then all of a sudden, NO signs everywhere, and business organizations saying they don't want it because of "workforce" blah, blah, blah. It wasn't organic, it just wasn't.

It’s been called. We got crushed. I’m surprised so many people showed up to the polls en masse to vote no or oppose something with no congressman, senators, or governors on the ballot.

I hate the rural, evangelical church people. Nothing great or redeeming about them. They just suck ass.

Lots of Tulsa and okc vote left, but it still bad.

It’s a school bond issue landslide. I’m surprised by it, all I’ve heard is positive from the weeders. It’s obvious how Oklahomans feel about weed, they believe in the medicinal qualities but not the fun qualities.

I wonder how many “no” votes have their med card and figure “I got mine, so fuck everyone else”. Given their track record, I bet a lot.

I did see some people on other message boards who say they have it great right now and don’t want anything to change. The prices are low and anyone who wants a medical card can get one.

the big losers in this are out of state weed shoppers, dispensary owners, and the state of Oklahoma itself who won’t be receiving a massive windfall of needed tax dollars.

Delaware, Minnesota, and Hawaii all look very promising this year. There’s still big victories to be had. Also….. the Biden administration is looking at taking marijuana off schedule 1 and should finish the review before the next election. There’s still a lot to be hopeful for on this issue, but this still sucks. I probably would’ve gone to an okie dispensary near Winstar later this year if it passed.

Yea, I could see “I got my med card and I don’t want OK to turn into a librul hippy haven like Colorado and California!” being a block of NO votes.

Probably this belongs on another board. But I didn’t know this was a thing, nor did I know that competitive joint rolling is my super power.

“With nimble fingers and years of practice, Ativat Janmuangthai beat other cannabis enthusiasts to roll a perfect, one-gramme joint in 43 seconds on Saturday, becoming the fastest joint-roller in Thailand's Phuket.“

Quote

He's been rolling joints for five years, he can even roll joints blindfolded. He's very fast," said Saksorn Sotornkittirat, friend of Ativat who accompanied him at the first Phuket Cannabis Cup competition.

The contest was part of an inaugural event where enthusiasts and experts could gather and exchange opinions and knowledge with the aim of helping set a standard for Thailand's fledgling cannabis industry.

An international panel of judges was also invited to evaluate various cannabis strains, taking into consideration elements, such as appearance, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels, terpenes, flavour and genetic profiles.

Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to decriminalise cannabis last year, but within a week of the move issued a raft of rushed piecemeal regulations to curb its potential unchecked use, including by children.

Last month, the parliament failed to endorse a cannabis draft bill before an election, set for May 14, leaving Thailand without an umbrella law to regulate the use of the substance.

Cannabis advocates in Phuket recently formed the Phuket Cannabis Association to create a stronger voice for the industry, with over 1,000 licensed dispensaries now on the island.

Poonwarit Wangpatravanich, the group president, hopes laws to regulate cannabis use will be hastened after the election.

"Imagine what's going to happen if people fly right to Thailand just because of that (cannabis use). We're going to increase such a large amount of GDP in tourism for the whole (of) Thailand," he said.

Hawaii has failed to pass recreational legalization this year. Why they failed this year?  I don’t know. They finally have a governor who will sign it, but still struggling to get it across the finish line.

minnesota, Delaware, and New Hampshire are the best hopes this year as of right now. Need 1 to keep the overall momentum going, 2 would be great, and 3 would be amazing.

I'd image it's a combination of: the ground being so goddam fertile everywhere in Hawaii you could just throw some seeds in your backyard and have some massive plants, and wealthy and politically powerful residents flexing their "drugs r bad mmmmkay" mindset

You might have seen this thread where I'm asking about moving to either OKC or Tulsa, for a variety of reasons, and one being medicinal mj : https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/29932-anyone-ever-willingly-moved-to-oklahoma-instead-of-just-from/#comment-5124066

I had the (dis)pleasure the last few days of poking around OKC and Edmund, and the western and eastern suburbs.

It really looked like cannibus stores and medical marijuana and vape accessory stores were littered on every corner, saturated already. Those who really need it or want it, can get it.

I cannot imagine if it were fully legal for recreational, I'd think you'd have even more blight and marijuana stores become your new dollar tree and payday loan store fronts and it would be horrible.

The border cities it's already all they have going for them as the drive up 35N until maybe Moore or Norman seems dead and Ardmore seems like a dying town.

Just my observation from the last few days; Tulsa may be different, haven't explored it yet.

Minnesota has effectively joined the club.

They just need to reconcile the differences in the House and Senate bills, and have the Gov sign it- which he has vowed to do.
