You also don’t call a blitz when the other team must drive 75 yards right before half and they won’t do it because they don’t have enough. It’s a well-known strategy to call a draw or screen in that situation. Our defensive call was terrible for those two plays. I’m concerned Sark can’t legitimately think like a HC in games because he’s too focused on offense. Those two plays cost us a chance to win.

I doubt Sark called that blitz. He might have known about it and didn't overrule his DC, in which case I suppose it's his fault. That's the thing about having a coordinator - there are times the HC has to step in. If Sark knew, then maybe he learned a lesson.

So Oregon isn't?  Ohio State isn't?  USC isn't?  Other schools are broke too with no rich alums?  Give me a fucking break.

By the way, Ohio State beat the brakes off an undefeated Oregon team that had previously beaten the Buckeyes, but yeah, we're the only ones who suffer these ignomities and FIRE SARK.

I fucking hate our fanbase.

Where did I say fire Sark? I guess criticism=cancellation to the small minded.

Oregon and Ohio State are doing well. It's been written many times how Texas has benefitted from the switch to the NIL system from the under the table days. Not sure how that's even controversial.

This is Sark without Nick Saban in his headset.  He has a habit of shooting himself in the dick for no reason at the wrong time.

Also, the PK call on the screen is where a head coach, who is paying attention, says no.  there is no reason to run that defensive play with 29 seconds left in the half.  Absolute dereliction of duty by PK there.

Flood needs to get his shit together.

Literally nobody has said that.   Oregon and Ohio st are flush with cash and wouldn’t you know it they’re very good!

We’ll know more about Sark after 2027. He needs to grow from this. Hope Arch works out.

I think we still need a bruiser portal back. Not sure how much Baxter will have recovered.

It was a high risk/reward play. Everything had to be blocked perfectly. IMO, it’s not the right call from the 1 on 2nd down.

Too bad they are one of the fastest defenses on the outside, lol.

You literally said "uniquely positioned", which is bullshit.

They have $$$ though.  It remains to be seen what they do with it.

I won't be surprised to see major guardrails put in place before that happens, though.

Sark said in the presser it wasn’t a blitz, just simulated pressure. He said they only sent 4. That simulated pressure probably still caused guys to be out of position so the point still stands I guess.

Bringing #3 from depth late to be the fourth was not the problem with that call. It wasn't great, and looked Todd Orlando levels of stupid/ineffectual but it's not why this call was criminal malpractice levels of bad.

The problem was we backed every one in zone up even further and had a safety (maybe two) and Hill both bailing full speed backward at/before the snap.

Which is not a way these guys are used to playing defense ever in their lives, and definitely not how they play well.

PK thinks it's a genius call that covers his bases for both a deep shot and/or a screen (as it gets both of best worlds).

He thinks late unexpected pressure after o-oline committed to 3 down line man opens gap for #3 to come in and force throw off target or get sack.

While also dropping his best screen defender into the wide side of the field to sniff out and stop a potential screen or draw...

BUT, it's Todd Orlando level thinking as all our guys end up running to and defending green, and not seeing, reading or reacting to what is happening in front of them.

So, we end up with Hill out of position and one on one with 3 Ohio State linemen leading a back who is now nearing full speed.

Which in that case you have to realize you are screwed and know that you have to disrupt back to make them slow down, change direction, etc. So instead of playing ole to try to bring down back, you need to sacrifice yourself like a grenade at the legs of all three o-line men and cause big bodies to fall in every direction.

Problem three is all your DBs are bailing out and end up being in strange punt return like angles, instead of normal pursuit and attack DB angles they would use on a  similar screen look on a third-and-long situation.

Guilbeau rushed so he wasn’t simulating jack.  But we only rushed 4 so that’s not out of the ordinary.  Fans will harp on it to make more that than it was.  One defensive player made a wrong choice on the tackle attempt.  Howard bought some time and some space that ultimately helped.  Obviously it was well executed.  Our reading of the play was more impactful than the rushing of Guilbeau.

Watch the block on that play against Guilbeau, is there such a thing as an offensive targeting call? It’s pretty ugly.

My son asked the same thing.  I didn't have an answer.

Maybe, but the implication was that we have more NIL upside than any school, and I don't think that's true.  But sure, we're top 5 or something like that.  NIL is a boon for sure.

He didn't call the blitz, I'm sure. Your other sentences encapsulate my thoughts.

Sark has shown some bone headed playcalling tendencies when there is no Pete Carroll or Nick Saban to override him. In order for Arch to maximize his potential, I feel like Sark needs to let Arch be Arch. It will be a shame if we don't win a title in the next 2-3 years with all the talent we have assembled.

On the drive down from Dallas today I listened to On Texas Football and Fat Ketch post games and Fat Ketch said something that is worse then what I thought happend. Last night I was talking about how Mackovic practiced roll left until it was perfect in case he needed it. I mentioned that Sark did nothing of the sort only to have Ketch say there is no way the sequence of plays that Sark called were not the best two plays in his bag and he probably had the team practice them repeatedly in case they found themselves on 1st and goal from the one.

And? Ketch is a fat fucking retard that doesn’t know shit about fuck. I’m embarrassed for you for admitting to listening to him

So your strategy is not to admit to listening to him since clearly you had to listen to him to come to your conclusion. I agree with you by the way but when rubbing salt in the wounds one goes all out.

Baxter was also going down pretty easy and hardly breaking tackles the first half of the season last year, his YAC was terrible..  If he reverts back to that after injury he won’t be what we imagine in our head.

I’ve never listened to him, I trust the surly brain trust on things like this.

Yes, considering we had an inconsistent and out of rhythm offense for the vast majority of the season, a top 4 finish is great.

Now it's time for our offensive minded HC to seriously address and fix the issues on offense.

That’s one thing I’d credit OSU for.  Ryan Day probably kept his job by getting Chip Kelly to help.

Right but Sark couldn’t focus enough to punch it in from the one, because he’s spread too thin. Possibly.

Very frustrating way to end the season especially since it seems to be a recurring issue with sark, but if you had told me 4 years ago that to end the 2023 season we would be throwing to the end zone to win a spot in the finals and the next year had first and goal to tie at the end of another semifinal I would have called you crazy

We just need to keep adding talent and depth. If sark does some introspection in the offseason that’s gravy

Sark isn’t winning shit here with his subpar coaching staff of nobodies and overall hardheadedness on offense regarding play calling.

It’s going to suck watching us waste Arch Manning next year. Without him lucking into a championship D this year, this team loses 5-6 games. That’ll be next year.

Yeah I find it funny when people say stuff like “PK and the defense saved his ass!”.

Part of the job of being a head coach is hiring good assistants and managing them. When you hire Seth Littrell or Ted Roof as your coordinator, you don’t look as good as a head coach!

  • Hook 'Em 5

I think Sarkisian has done a really good job making hires. Jackson and Baker were outstanding additions. Poaching Nansen after Choate left to become a HC was really good!

He needs to fire his play caller and hire one. That is currently the weakest position on this staff.

I really see conference championships becoming exhibition games if they keep this playoff format.
