Bro, this isn’t going to end well for you. Please don’t do this. Arch is surely going to be great but with all of Quinn’s faults Texas wins taking a knee today if Quinn is the QB today.

i’m not allowed to respond to a guy who called me out? yeah i don’t think so. and you don’t need to worry about “how this is going to end for me”, because this ends with me watching college football and drinking lagavulin 16. i’m pretty sure i’ll be ok.

i feel very strongly that many of you in here are being prisoners of the moment. Arch didn’t do anything to put us into a hole in the 1h despite routinely going through all of his reads and having to either dump it off to the safety valve or try and make a play with his legs. quinn would not even have gone through those progressions, he would have seen his first option covered, turtled in the pocket under no pressure, and then either run into the back of his own linemen or run backwards opening a lane for a pass rusher to drop him.

one offseason and y’all have forgotten the entire last three years.

He’s not the only guy who slept walk today but he was  a major problem. So was sark. So were the WRs and the OL but in the second half, that team scores with QE.

you can try to out objective me but it’s probably one of my greatest strengths. I’m not a prisoner of any moment. QE has multiple games where be balled enough on the road or in Dallas for us to know with all his faults he leads Texas to multiple TDs.

as Wulaw said arch has a higher ceiling but QE has a lower floor.

and tbqh, this arch is the one some of us saw in his one drive against Georgia and what we thought was reasonably possible - though I’ll admit I willingly jumped into the hype pool this last month.

You can do whatever you want you’re just wrong. QE absolutely plays better today than arch. Any objective viewer can see that.

yeah well there’s a whole bunch of objective observers who completely disagree with you. again, i can only assume that you all have completely purged QE’s play from your memory if you can’t realize that tOSU’s first half defense- blanketing our wr’s while the pocket held strong- would have seen quinn ewers repeatedly self sacking as he was as skittish as a baby deer on ice in the pocket, and as he had a penchant for turtling and freaking out whenever his first read wasn’t open, even when he wasn’t under any pressure. if QE was out there today he’s taking 8-10 yard sacks throughout the first half, and we’re down by double digits if not 2+ tds at half time. arch was really bad throwing the ball today, but he didn’t kill us in the pocket like quinn did routinely.

You're maximizing QE's bad and minimizing his good.  Yeah he had self sacks.  He also was elite at hitting the short/intermediate throw on target, which was a key missing element today.

i’m simply pointing out that the exact, specific type of defense that tosu played today gave quinn ewers nightmares at Texas, and that arch had none of the negative plays against that type of defense that QE was famous for. i’m not maximizing what was bad about QE, i’m pointing out that tOSU’s defense today would have been specifically designed to maximize what he struggled with.

Absolutely why we’d have won by 2 scores. Also why we’d have a lower ceiling.

The data shows that he was not elite at the intermediate stuff.  He was excellent one season when he had the fastest combo of WRs ever that created significant separation.

So we start from there.

It’s likely we win with Ewers, but who here is comfortable saying we efficiently score inside the 10?  That’s part of the equation. It is not apparent that we missed wide open deep shots so that efficiency may come into play.

There is the potential that opening game timing makes life more difficult too. A tad anyway.  The 3rd down miss to Wingo on the last drive.  Wingo needs to catch that.  There  may be an element to not throttling it down.  We’ve all heard it said the most improvement occurs between weeks 1 and 2.  Timing is likely part of that.  You also can take a cue from Joe Burrow who played this preseason in an attempt to start stronger.  Why do you think that is?

I was curious last year and still am about what’s drilled into the QBs regarding being cautious as that can be turned into a negative.

You play the schedule you get.  Sayin didn't seem to have accuracy issues.

That last toss to Wingo can't be on him.  You're asking a WR who has created separation and has nothing but green field in front of him to anticipate that his QB is going to put it short and behind and throttle down?  That's dumb.  Arch straight up missed that throw, it wasn't even behind it was WAY behind him, and Wingo had to stop and contort his torso just to get a finger on it.  If it was on target that was a first down minimum and potentially even an explosive play.

You just did it again. No mention of arch playing like dog shit and no mention that in that game QE threw for nearly 300 and had two TDs and jack sawyer and a senior QB ain’t on this tOSU team.

you’re over your skis on this one bud.

Wulaw has it right QE has a higher floor and Arch has a higher ceiling but the talk about what if Arch started the last two years is pretty much known now.

Texas wins with QE today because the defense played lights out, and QE would have done enough like he did on the road at bama, against OU twice and on the road at Michigan. Texas lost today because arch couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

As for sark, he did the same shit last season, he’s not a great play caller and he does his offensive players a real disservice with his game management. Arch suffered from it but so did Quinn.

everyone in this discussion knows QE would have self sacked a couple of times but you know what? Arch threw an INT and missed more passes that QE makes coming and going.

The ONLY point of we would have won with Quinn today is to put to rest the idea that Sark left two national titles on the table out of some fealty to Quinn.

This can't be, because I know I've read multiple Derka posts on this thread about how Quinn was the 4th best QB on campus and Sark had "a fucking Manning" rested and ready on the bench.

This. Ewers was bad last year. But clearly Arch wasn’t ready. Hope he gets there

Yeah, because he's not a piece of shit. He loved his teammates, and he liked Austin, but he hasn't been back willingly and hasn't affiliated himself with Texas at all. For a reason.

CTJ and I have worked with a woman who dated Simms for awhile in college. She is a foreigner, and doesn't give any fucks about football, which was a big appeal for Simms. She tells some pretty horrific stories about how he was treated on campus. Prank phone calls at all hours, death threats after bad games, being jeered and heckled when he was on campus by other students. Imagine being Chris Simms, looking like he looked, and basically locking yourself in your apartment with a woman who didn't understand or give a fuck about football as a refuge from the shit he received.

And it's pretty obvious a lot of those kids heckled him have moved onto message boards.

After the 2003 Cotton Bowl, which I attended on a press pass, I was in the press room with the team.  Went up to Simms shook his hand, said "great game," and thanked him for his efforts or sacrifice or something to that effect.  He looked really startled by that.

And it’s the only good thing that can come out of today. Now we can put this shit behind us and hope sark and arch pull their heads out of each others asses

Not the same defense my guy. Those two nightmare DEs they had are gone. Arch had a ton of time to throw. We didn't whiff on a single block on pass pro. Even with all that pass rush QE still threw for almost 3 hundo and two tuddys. Arch will get his shit together but you "we lost the NC because Arch wasn't playing" guys need to eat crow.

If Arch starts more games last year he has the experience to win this. Whatever. He gets it either way, we live in a world where we can still get in the playoff.

And that might be true. But Quinn made sense last year if you weren’t going to go to arch at the OU point in the season and deal with it.

Maybe Sark reads this thread and put “training wheels” on Arch so that everyone would think he made the right decision last year. Now that that’s taken care of, we can expect the full Sark offense. Whew.

You're making up a scenario that never occurred and acting like it's reality. You know what did occur?

  • Quinn went to Alabama and played an incredible game.
  • Quinn played two superlative games against OU that were better than Vince Young did against OU.
  • Quinn played a game against Michigan that had him mentioned in early Heisman talk, before he was injured.

I'm not saying Arch won't get there, and I hope he does, but until he does, he hasn't done shit.

This Arch game will grade out worse than QE's worst graded performance.  Being completely and utterly inept at QB puts your team in a gigantic hole.

it’s already becoming clear that a bunch of y’all are going to be super disappointed that i’m going to come here and criticize arch when he doesn’t play well instead of pledging my undying loyalty to dear leader like y’all did. always funny when bad actors assume everyone else is just like them.

also funny how it took exactly one bad game by arch for this site to completely rewrite who QE was as a qb. Quinn Ewers last year, with a far superior supporting cast:

•lost every game vs an equal opponent

•couldn’t move the ball against kentucky, arkansas, or a&m

•was super sloppy vs vandy

•tried his best to lose to a mid asu team

•ranked 12th out of 14 qbs in the sec, 200th in the nation

•nearly went undrafted

shaggy, today: “quinn ewers absolutely, unequivocally, factually goes on the road vs the best team in america and routes tOSU with this inferior offense, and anyone who disagrees is wrong and incapable of being objective.”

lol ok.

If I posted that about a game in which we had 0 points and 79 yards of offense at halftime, how would you interpret my take on the QB play?

I haven't read your 5+ other posts. Just the one I quoted. If this is how you comnunicate Arch being awful, OK. Glad you're in agreement he was worse than Quinn ever was in a single game here.

I’m not here to shit on Quinn, but don’t act like those two ou teams Quinn beat were remotely close to what VY faced. Quinn was pretty good in big games he had extended time to prepare for though

god damn y’all stay so angry. it’s really funny how often i get painted as the one who’s angry, hypersensitive, and combative by all of the people who embody those traits as they constantly look to start internet fights (often in bad faith) when an adult conversation would work just fine (cue the goof troop gallery comments about pots and kettles). i won’t hold my breath on any of them ever realizing that it’s true, but it’ll still be funny.

and ftr, here’s an excerpt of the last post i made before CD told me that i was giving arch a pass for today:

Quote

what’s weird is that arch looked worse today than he ever has for Texas, and it had nothing to do with tOSU’s defense. he was shitty even when he had a clean pocket and all day to throw.

i know it must be flummoxing to see someone being critical of the qb that he previously praised, but this is how normal, objective, rational people give their takes.

Not sure you noticed but we Bond was missing most of the season. We basically had Golden and Tre Wisner. Some of you have to get past this ide we were loaded offensively. We were not.

1)the alabama game was ages ago, we are specifically talking about QE from last season

2)LMAO

3)michigan went 6-6

last year, on a much more loaded offense, quinn struggled regularly, and never beat a team with equal talent. but sure, absolutely, that guy just walks into the horseshoe today with an inferior team and just cake walks all over the best team in america. for suuuurrreeeee.

It's perfectly reasonable to talk about Quinn's self-sacks and poor deep balls.

Why isn't it perfectly reasonable to talk about Arch's poor short and intermediate passing?

Disagree on far superior cast. This defense is awesome. The line and running game was better than it was last year against OsU.
