Where have you gone, Quinn Ewers?

A portion of Surly turns its lonely eyes to you. Woo woo woo.

What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson?

Quinn Ewers has gone to be the play football near Biscayne Bay, hey hey hey. Hey hey hey.

If Arch starts more games last year he has the experience to win this. Whatever. He gets it either way, we live in a world where we can still get in the playoff.

I don’t think more college starts help him not throw 10 passes under the knees of his WRs

The line and running game was better than it was last year against OsU.

Correct.

CFP semifinal:  29 attempts, 58 yards, 2.0 ypc

Today:  37 attempts, 166 yards, 4.5 ypc

Not sure you noticed but we Bond was missing most of the season. We basically had Golden and Tre Wisner. Some of you have to get past this ide we were loaded offensively. We were not.

I need you to do a little math for me.

Just how many Texas teams have had a 1st round WR, a 5th round TE, a 5th round RB, a 1st round LT, a draftable RT and LG?  For Texas, yes, that is loaded.

Bonus question. In the past two years, other than Livingston, who has scored TDs versus Ohio State?

Go back and watch that Wingo throw on the OSU 7 or so.  All Wingo had to do was run 4 yards and post up.  That crosser inside the 10 isn’t the easiest.  I’m not saying he should miss it, but it’s damn more difficult than hitting it quick.  Trying to hit that window with a moving target in a condensed field does have some complexities.

We had three skill position guys drafted. Our offense wasn't some juggernaut. Meanwhile look at the OSU offense. None of the top teams would trade their skill guys for ours.

You answered no questions.

I am aware it’s no juggernaut.  The question is - should it be?

Ok now we all know why he started. 1 million apologies to Ewers

But this a dumbass assumption.  Same as those assuming we win it all last year with a different QB.

Last year you could tell from Arch’s limited appearances he really wasn’t ready to be the #1 QB. Despite playing reasonably well, you could see his limitations.

Today’s poor performance was shocking. Not only was it not better, it was substantially worse than last year. As a result, it really isn’t unreasonable to make the argument that Quinn might have played much better and might have pulled out a win.  But since that could never happen, why revisit history?

We weren't as good as Ohio State from a roster standpoint. Ohio State is the gold standard. They were literally better than us at every level except QB. Teams like them and Georgia have been collecting top level talent for years. It isn't really that hard. We lost to who we were supposed to lose to if you look at it realistically. In 2023 we had no pass rush and so we lost to the two teams where lacking those things was going to hurt you the most. Last year WE lost to the only two teams we played with elite pass rushes who could simultaneously shut down our run game. Everyone else had a flaw that got exposed except those two. You can have 85 NFL level NTs but that really isn't going to help you against Penix or Gabriel. Just the same if you look at the OSU game from last year we couldn't get to Howard at all. Same thing happened today. We have holes on this team that really hurt us against quality opponents. Those holes have shown up consistently and they really don't care about our draft count.

If our QB had made a few throws that you would expect a p4 QB to make, I bet our roster would look just fine as we leave the shoe with a W. I don't think our roster was the issue today.

The differences in rosters were negligible.  Ohio State lost a couple last year.  They basically made 1/2 more plays than us in each of the two matchups.

Arch sucked today.  The guy people predicted would lead Texas to a national championship, take home a heisman and be drafted first overall before he had any meaningful experience had a shitty start to the season.  He had nowhere to go but down and he went down hard, like it was his first day in prison.

Today’s Arch would have lost to last year’s GA and Ohio State’s teams.  He’d have an 0-3 record against them just like Ewers did.  As it is, he’s 0 and 1 against elite competition in his young career.  It will be interesting to see where he’s at in November against GA after he has had some time to develop without the ridiculous expectations.

I'm guessing Sark saw this inaccuracy in practice a lot last year and it was obvious that Ewers was his best shot to win.  then there are the folks who thought Arch would have won the NC last year.  Sark has no choice but to play him no matter how bad it gets.

Florida game is now the season.  Good news is the OL looked pretty good and the D looked extremely solid again.  maybe we can Kansas State our way to the playoffs.

Florida game is not the season. It's a big game, though.

We lost to them last year because they were better off the edge than we were. If you trade their D-line with ours we go home with the trophy. Will Howard sat back and patted the football three times before getting rid of it. You guys talk about our talent but we weren't that talented where it matters. We had one decent edge guy, a rb who couldn't break arm tackles, and one receiver. I was told that Wingo was being held back by Ewers. The guy I saw yesterday was the same ole Wingo, losing physical battles with lesser defenders. Meanwhile I watched number 4 create his own separation. Great receivers don't allow themselves to be manhandled.

Not bad at all and I can’t carry a tune for nothing but it fit well.

Arch's performance has nothing to do with Ewers so why do I want to rub it in the face of so many (and one in particular) posters on this site? So many fools, so little time.

We really didn't get to see Arch throwing under pressure very  much last year.  He had several really exciting plays, two of which were with his legs.  I've seen the claims that he has a great arm, and I'm not ready to dispute them, but I hope that arm shows up in the next 3 games which would make the argument that it was the pressure and the environment much more believable.

Just like Quinn has flaws, so does Arch.  Turns out all humans have flaws.  I said on some other thread that Arch appears to be the anti-Quinn:  good pocket presence, great athleticism and running game, can take a hit w/o getting hurt, but man some of those throws.  At least maybe people will give credit where credit is due regarding Quinn.

The issue is and was always our running game inside the redzone but many posters and even our head coach refuse to acknowledge it.  zero creativity.

Well, at least that appears to have improved, with a notable exception being the tush push.  Somebody in another thread lamented that Sark doesn't seem to be able to land badass running backs.  Uh, Baxter?  A triple ligament tear can set a guy back for awhile.

Did Quinn play yesterday? Stop responding in this thread for Arch discussion there's a thread for that. It's valid to say Quinn likely doesn't shit down his leg for 3 quarters yesterday, but what the fuck is the last 2 pages abut.

It’s about people who ate shit on this thread while you watched, man, now feeling a little vindication. Unless you were, you know, posting in the wrong thread. Then I don’t know.

One of the main retarded themes in this retarded thread was we zero doubt win a national championship with Arch last year instead of Ewers. People are responding appropriately.

It’s the only good thing about yesterday, not worth it tbh but hey silver linings. I think QE deserves his props here and now arch needs to go get his.
