I root against everyone who had a chance to go to Texas but chose to go elsewhere regardless of the reasons. It’s different when they didn’t get the opportunity, but I enjoy being petty.

There’s a lot of making fun of the 9.95ers on this thread, but I feel like I’ve been steered correctly on my expectations for pretty much every recruitment this cycle outside of maybe KJ Edwards. I know some people are disgruntled because we apparently led at some point with a lot of targets, but once the bigger NIL deals started rolling in the 9.95ers adjusted accordingly. Him declaring for Oregon surprised no one who follows On Texas Football.

I think expectations were properly set with Crowell, Johnson, Lee, Henderson, Perry-Wright, Lott and Griffin (after we chose to bring in Atkinson). We knew we were fighting uphill battles there. Ojo's situation was obviously unique.

Aside from the Guervil and Edwards bag drop, the only one where I noticed things shifted very quickly was Finley. Heading into his OV, Gerry was making comments on OTF about Jermichael preferring him close to home and that Texas was in a good spot. Then, immediately after the visit, he did a 180. Maybe that was a NIL thing and what we were allocating at WR (as is currently being discussed).

Vaguely spoiling incoming commitments is probably the most annoying thing Hayes does. Really don't get what On3 gets out of employing him.

So Rouse it is???

Or someone like Kent or Matthews next week. It's not usually same day.

I'll guess Matthews. I don't think Texas gets Kent because other programs are willing to pony up more $$$.

If they really think Kent can be a receiving threat at that size I could see them paying for him since we need blocking beef at TE that is capable of beating a LB in coverage.

i think we are looking for Hail Marys to close out the class. Kent is somewhat like Terry who doesn’t have a clear position. Obviously, he is a take at the right price but I don’t think he is a must have. We probably only see Prothro and Bowman as worth the big money.

Our roster is fucking stacked right now.  They can afford to cherry pick for the rest of the spots for this class.

These opposing programs are run by losers who don't have a fucking clue.  Oregon is shitting out money left and right, but Lincoln the brisket murderer is just lying through his teeth as he always does.

I'm sure there will be some late season raids on talent when the carousel starts up.

If there are expectations of price escalators each year to retain talent, why not let someone else take on the initial developmental risk? If he hits, we can pay the 20% adder after year 1 or 2, and if he sucks we avoided throwing away money.

Georgia roster is stacked as well, according to On3.

Gerry intimated that there was $400k less in commitments coming from the Texas side.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I particularly don’t want to judge athletes who know well their earning potential (as an athlete) is one injury away from $0.

Yeah. And how's their bust rate, and who have they lost to the portal? I don't know, but I'd have a hard time ANYONE has done better at retention/development than Texas has at this point.

I think Texas is positioned perfectly heading into the season.

Some of these guys will come back around, some will listen to new offers if we decide to do that, some will stand pat. New prospects will emerge during the season that may offer higher upside and less $$.

We have room and dollars to fix any surprises during the season. The sky isn’t falling.

How does that work?

Nansen: are you choosing the Longhorns?

Rouse: silence <birds chirping in the background>

Nansen: Did you hear me? Are you choosing the Longhorns today?

Rouse: Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself.

Nansen: Nice. Good talk.

Sark to Nansen: What’d Rouse say?

Nansen: He hasn’t made a decision yet.

Plus, their coach is a GIANT vagina.

If Bishop is set to be a WR as has been reported, then we’re more than fine there. Lott and Finley are only annoying because they were legacies not because we’re hurting at their position.

Overall though, I think there probably needs to be a bit of a resetting of the board. By Saturday, almost every player who OV’d to us will be committed somewhere. Obviously you try to flip whoever you can, but some new targets need to emerge too.

Depends on the expected class size and expected roster retention.

Lott is elite, and I definitely wanted him on our team next year. I'm not going to pretend differently. Oh well.

Same!!

I get what everyone’s saying, but let’s be honest — this isn’t the NFL. The roster will probably look completely different in two or three years anyway. That’s why I’d rather see us build around players who come up through our program, learn our culture, and develop under our coaching staff.

Instead of throwing crazy money at portal guys we might not even get — or who might not even hit the portal — I’d rather we use the transfer portal to cherry-pick, not build from scratch.

The foundation should come from high school recruiting. That’s where you develop a real identity and roster continuity. The portal should be about adding what you need, not creating who you are.

yeah, I really hate that we lose out on good legacies but honestly they probably wouldn't  have got any significant time till year 3.

Point to where there is evidence that Sark isn't building a foundation from HS recruiting?

This is kind of odd now. Like flipping a coin and having it land on heads 10 times in a row (besides that time it landed on Turntine).

Not really. This isn’t 50/50 stuff in any way.

Was just about to post that. But who cares, we're stacked at LB!

I mean you at least could have pos repped it…guess that’s beside the point.
This drought is getting tough. You would think we could have bought someone by now at least…oh wait.

We have allocated a dumptruck of money for 3 remaining recruits, this kid today was not one of them.

Wesley, Okpala, Turntine. Awful hit rate on these out of state shots but two of those three were not cheap.

I feel like I’m in a weird place of still having complete and total faith in Sark and the direction of our program, but also, uh, this fuckin sucks.

Is it possible the market is higher this year than we anticipated and allocated? Or is it being sticklers to rules about 3rd party deals that is the reason?

Is it possible Sark got too healthy, which led to him having a kid this year and being too busy to tweet at recruits?
