I saw Exorcist in its opening week in a DC theater on Wisconsin Ave. Afterwards, we got lubricated at The Tombs in Georgetown which is located at the top of what’s called now “Exorcist Steps.”  Seemed like the appropriate destination that night considering the movie put my date in a rather clingy mood … oh yeah.

Walking up them drunk would suck. Falling down them drunk, sober, or possessed would be worse. Explaining while standing at the top of the stairs that this was where Reagan’s bedroom would have been really had an effect on my date.

Got sent home in the 3d grade for having the novel. My mother had to plead with the manager in the box office to let me see the movie without making her go with me. Good times.

Perfect segue into a classic from the good ol' days. Gather 'round, kids, and let dear Uncle Walt and his team warp you for life. Who but Disney could weave such abject terror into lighthearted animation for the whole family?

When I was six years old, my dad took me to see this incredibly cheesy, horrible movie. It may be the worst movie of all time. Spend two minutes watching the trailer and you'll get a sense of how bad it is.

Nevertheless, it scared the bejeebus out of six year old me. I couldn't sleep well for days.

Ladies and gentlemen, behold the worst movie of all time.

Why do you hate Ed Wood?

Ive not seem this film, so can't compare but I did watch Alone in the Dark. So I will raise your bet. I'm a Slater junkie and will watch pretty much anything he is in. I enjoy some horror and I'm a game nerd to a degree.

Texas was on its way to winning a national championship, I'd just gotten a big promotion, and this seemed right in my wheel house. It. WAS. NOT.

My parents didn't know what they were getting everyone into when they took us to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. My little brother was like 5 or 6. The sacrifice scene turned him white as a ghost and I'll never be able to get the dinner scene out of my head. Hollywood was going insane around that time and one thing the Karens of the 80's got right was the PG 13 rating due to that movie and, I think, Ghostbusters and Gremlins.

Temple of Doom and Gremlins were definitely catalysts for the PG13 rating, but folks often leave 16 Candles out of the discussion.  I decided to watch the film with my oldest when he turned 16 (a while back) and totally forgot about the shower nudity at the very beginning.  Not to mention specific sexual references throughout.  In my "research" I found that the MPAA first rated in R and John Hughes lobbied for a PG rating.

Two recruiting notes

Texas continues to await two decisions of top uncommitted targets remaining. Those two prospects are OnTexasFootball 4-star++ defensive back Davon Benjamin (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) and 4-star+ EDGE Jake Kreul (Orlando, Fla./IMG Academy).

OnTexasFootball continues to believe that the Longhorns are behind on one, and are the favorite for another.

Davon Benjamin ...
As of today, cannonball! OTF continues to believe that Oregon is the favorite for the versatile defensive back over Michigan and Texas; with North Carolina and Washington both having hats on the table.

OTF spoke with two sources Monday, and they both came back the same. One believes Oregon has their "Hi" from Benjamin. Another believes Texas and Michigan are still fighting it out with the favorite Oregon.

Benjamin is scheduled to announce his decision August 2. There has been a thought that the decision could end up being August 5th, but nothing has changed thus far.

Jake Kreul ...
First off, Jake's last name is pronounced krell. So maybe I will finally get it right on video. OTF spoke with a source Monday on the recruitment of the 6-2, 225-pounder. The takeaway was that the Sunshine State native has not told people at IMG Academy of an announcement date as of yesterday. IMG Academy has their media day August 2, and one prospect is expected to announce that day (Not Jake Kreul). October has also been talked about behind the scenes, but the source would be a little surprised if the recruitment carried on that long. We shall see.

As far as the who? The source believes Texas can definitely win out, and that Kreul sees a real football, brand and academic combo with Texas. Oklahoma and Ole Miss are battling with Texas.

A second source told OTF that Texas became the team to beat very recently when they decided to make the push.

Not much new here, but bless you for an on-topic post.

I think I was 12 the first time I saw The Ring. Didn't catch it in theaters, so by the time we could rent it on VHS, the middle-school hype machine had already built it into the 'scariest movie evar'. I watched it with my older brother and sister and managed to keep my cool. They were visibly freaked out by the ending, which was a major win for my fragile pre-teen psyche.

That night I fell asleep on the couch watching TV. At some point the cable went out, and I woke up at 3AM to TV static exactly like what happens in the movie before the cursed video plays. THAT freaked me the fuck out. If you've seen those videos of cats touching aluminimum foil, I imagine that's what I looked like trying to get out of my living room as fast as humanly possible.

Maybe he's a guy Texas decides we must land later on in the process. I agree, he appears to be the best DB on the board. However, as we know, high-quality safeties are available in the portal and Texas currently has a plethora of DB talent.

I remember watching another movie in the theater when the preview for All Dogs Go To Heaven came on. After the name was announced the guy sitting behind me said "And all cats go to hell."

Oregon with Lanning doesn’t strike me as a flippable school. Neither would Georgia though, so who knows. I still think we’re more likely to feed on schools with coaching uncertainty or cash problems.

Jaws fucked me up when I was a kid.

We had to leave early when it was showing at the old Highland Mall theater

As a teen it was Poltergeist and A Nightmare on Elm St.

Family stories of La Llonora got me good.

Horror House (1969) with Frankie Avalon is actually a pretty good slasher flick.

Oh and I could not get past the opening scene of The Plague Dogs.

Fuck that animated movie.

The guy would have to just decide that he preferred Texas for reasons other than money. Texas isn’t being outbid by Oregon right now. He’s coveted by everyone recruiting him as one of their highest guys on the board regardless of position. Think of him less as a safety and more of a potential wizard. He can cover like a corner and he can see the future like the best safety prospects every 5 years or so - Ed Reed, Earl Thomas, Mathieu, Downs. He’s also a bad ass returner.

That comes from someone that graded all of those other guys and sees him in that light and has confirmed where he is on everyone’s boards. If Texas landed him, he’d be 1b to Atkinson’s 1a and, yes, I know that Texas is signing some amazing talent in this class.

All we need to do is wait for OU to identify a 2* from Montana that will be better and offer that guy.

Oregon and Michigan being the other two finalists doesn’t indicate that we’re going to be able to come back at the 11th hour and moneywhip Benjamin if we want to. Those two don’t have much of a problem matching or exceeding whatever we can do. FWIW, I have the same concern about Malakai Lee.

I’m glad we decided we want Kreul. If he grows a little bit then you’ve really got something. If not then he can transfer to Temple and terrorize the AAC.

Also, maybe y’all could shut the fuck up with the movie horseshit for 5 seconds while we have a little nugget to discuss?

I really hope we get Benjamin and Lee. Both megastars in the making. Might as well add Kreul, too. Lanning, Moore and Venables can all go straight to Antarctica and stay there.

Oh, and speaking of...no discussion of '80s freakout flicks should omit this bad boy. Its R rating was deserved.

Is that Strait? Ketchum’s homerism and, at that time, willingness to hoist his lardass into his vehicle and attend HS games actually paid off here. He was begging for Texas to pursue Strait.

Also, everyone wanted Kendrick Turner. I think that dude was a top 150 recruit. His issues were mental and folks just didn’t evaluate that aspect well back in the day.

Alamo Drafthouse used to do a screening where you would float on a tube in Lake Travis and watch Jaws.  Fucking terrifying.

Although off topic, the scarring horror flicks talk has been fun.  It really got me thinking about movies that haunted me as a kid.  My dad passed away when I was 11 and my mom was never home, leaving me to care for my younger sister quite often.  I was unfortunate enough to see When a Stranger Calls around that time and, yes, it scared the crap out of me.

Hopefully Michigan shits the bed, moves on from Moore, and Lanning takes his talents to the NFL. Gotta think the chances of those happening are not remote.

I like the cut of your jib. But Moore has to like REALLY shit the bed to get canned, right? I think the way they finished last year bought him some goodwill.
