Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

I am now absolutely cheering for Texas to go after Estrada. It’s a win-win for this board. If he sucks, we get to mock Helobious. If he’s awesome, it emboldens Helobious to get even more outlandish with his nonsense, and it helps Texas.

Watched Estrada’s tape, and he looks like those guys who try hard and kick ass in the spring game.

Remember when we gave a scholarship to Kai Money? Helobious wants a team of that, as long as the names end in - quez,-iago, -chez, - ada, or -ingo.

The white walk ons? Or the guys who hit your starting RB after a whistle in practice and almost blow up his entire knee?

Maybe Christian Clark proves to be forever limited by his Achilles, but let's assume he's healed and can fully display his talent. At this point he's become a 2025 recruit instead of a 2024. So if he, Simon and/or Stewart end up being solid contributors, we're younger at RB than some fans seem to think. Grab a portal guy if you decide you need one this winter, but I think we're sitting in pretty fair shape behind Baxter and Wisner.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026 - Vaya con Dios.  Estrada or bust!

Is it because choice was the only reason he was considering Texas in the first place and immediately eliminated us when choice left? And Chad busted ass to get us in the final two?

Choice is a Unicorn. We’re lucky we had him and he left us a stocked room.

Well stated, Sydney.  And with no typos, to boot.

Actually proof read twice. You’re all welcome,  because it hurt me in my soul.

Whoever Gerry is talking to that has all this confidence needs to readjust his confidence detector

Gerry and Bobby literally said that Texas was “in it.” Not over confident. You just read your own dumb tea leaves.

It’s not about the RB commitment today. It’s that it seems like all the confidence that they put out from their source ends up elsewhere so far.

Has he not offered one of his hand jobs for a visit?

Everyone’s sleeping on Jerrick Gibson.  He had fumbling issues as a freshman. It happens.

But if he fixes that…he’s gonna be a good one.

Completely agree. Aside from fumblitis, has potential to me as a guy that can run between the tackles with quickness and a lower center of gravity.

Oh no, a guy who’s intellect and general takes can best be described as Rock Stupid doesn’t like me…

But congrats on the broken watch that is your brain being right today.

Not really relevant to '26 recruiting. He'll be a junior when they get to campus.

As is often stated on this board, most of the big recruiters are like all good salesmen in that they think they can close every deal. So saying the staff feels confident can be true while also only somewhat useful.

So if the leans fall our way (Guervil, Okpala, Turntine, Ojo and Carlton), we get 1 of Griffin or Atkinson and beat out South Carolina for Matthews, that puts us at 22 commitments heading into the season with obvious needs at WR, RB and S heading into the season.

Looking back at last year it appears we had 19 commits when the season kicked off.

Yes, I’ve felt so duped with all of these top 5 classes and an overall top 3 roster this year.

Just think how highly ranked last years class would have been if we got everyone. We would have been the # 1++++ class.

You’re onto something here. We need Helobious to step up and get those forearms back to work.

You whine a lot.

@Red Five basically ruined this entire site’s outlook when it comes to Gibson. Dude hates that motherfucker.

We’re all with you. SC is a borderline pariah here, but he nailed that one post.

Calculator says we would be #2 behind USC

No sense in worrying about missing out on the one-off recruit here or there. Roughly 50% of each class ends up transferring anyway

Happy to see you medicated

Outstanding. The Sark talk come from the 45 minute interview with some UT greats. I saw 45 minutes and was like nope, then watched it twice. The man is so open and honest. Wouldn't trade Sark for anybody - he is it. Referenced video it a YouTube posted somewhere above. Really worth watching.

I m not worried for the long term cycle given the past three years of success, but it does sting a bit to be the losers on so many 50/50 decisions.

I’m no math genius, but I’m pretty sure everyone loses about half of their 50/50 recruiting battles unless they’re not trying hard enough.

Recruiting: Where things stand on Friday morning

The Texas Longhorns currently have a recruiting class ranked around No. 10 to 12 in the country with a lot of runway remaining. There are three scheduled announcements today with the Longhorns not the favorite to win out in those. It gets very interesting Saturday and Sunday for Texas, however.

OnTexasFootball remains the same, the Longhorns are very likely to sign a fifth straight top 5 recruiting class at the end of the day.

Here is a look at where things stand starting the morning of June 27:

June 27 announcements ...

Damari Simeon, DL, Richland (N.J.) St. Aug
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Ohio State over Penn State

Chace Calicut, S/LB, Houston (Texas) North Shore
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+
OTF's take: Georgia over Texas as of last night

Malakai Lee, OT, Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Michigan over Texas. The Longhorns will stay on Lee until signing day.

June 28 ...

James Johnson, DL, Fort Myers (Fla.) Northwestern
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Could go either way between Texas and Georgia. More Texas chatter Thursday, with more Georgia chatter to begin the week.

June 29 ...

Xavier Griffin, LB, Gainesville (Ga.) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star
OTF's take: Could go either way between Texas and Alabama. Both have felt good at times in recent weeks. Family in Tuscaloosa.

July 2 ...

Kendall Guervil, DL, Fort Myers (Fla.) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Texas leads Georgia and Florida

Trenton Henderson, EDGE, Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star
OTF's take: Florida leads Texas with LSU No. 3

July 3 ...

Kosi Okpala, LB, Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+
OTF's take: Texas leads Penn State and Baylor

July 4 ...

John Turntine III, OT, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star
OTF's take: Texas leads Michigan

Kaydon Finley, WR, Aledo (Texas) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+
OTF's take: We lean Notre Dame here as of today.

July 8 ...

Jalen Lott, WR/ATH, Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: USC or Oregon

July 10 ...

Jamarion Carlton, EDGE, Temple (Texas) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+
OTF's take: Texas leads Baylor and Penn State

July 11 ...

Samari Matthews, CB, Cornelius (N.C.) Hough
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Texas sight lead over South Carolina. Could go either way.

July 12 ...

Hezek Kent, TE, Brunswick (Ga.) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Kent likes Texas the most. A couple others have higher NIL offers currently.

Kaiden Prothro, TE, Bowdon (Ga.) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Georgia leads Florida and Texas

Early July announcements expected ...

Felix Ojo, OT, Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Texas leads Ohio State and Texas Tech.

Tyler Atkinson, LB, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star
OTF's take: Texas right there with Georgia and Clemson

Brayden Rouse, LB, Marietta (Ga.) Kell
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++
OTF's take: Tennessee leads Texas and Alabama

Keawe Brown, TE, Corona (Calif.) Centennial
OnTexasFootball ranking: 3-star++

I am going James Simon.

https://www.hudl.com/profile/16091617/James-Simon

I prefer to watch highlights from tight games or losing games, especially at RB. Too many times, the tape is just guys running through 10-yard-wide holes. He put a highlight of him pass blocking; not sure I have ever seen RB do that. His Dad spent time in the NFL, so he understands how to prepare and what is required at the position. He did not put out a senior tape, but you can go through the games it if intrigued.

He made a nice jump from Junior to senior year. Shows vision, power, gets downhill, and a willingness to block.

I would mention Clark here, but without a Spring game it is hard to know where he is physically.
