IMO it is coordination. Clark has the most coordination in the league by a mile. The way she plays looks familiar to most NBA fans. Sure she is not Gary Bird but it is the first time you are seeing such a high level of play that is also visually appealing to mainstream basketball fans.

yeah fans like her. why you mad? imagine nba fans being seething mad that non-nba fans said they don’t watch basketball but they’ll tune in to watch steph curry.

What this reminds me of is when you run across fans of some obscure band that wound up going mainstream. They got millions of new fans because more people were exposed to this cool music, but the original fans look at these new fans of the band, as well as the band itself, of being sellouts.

I am going to watch because of Clark and if I can catch Bueckers when she has nationally televised games. Luckily I work with a woman who was a baller back in Palau and she represented her country on the court. We talk about a lot of players and she opens me up to the ones she really likes which is pretty cool. Clark is still why I watch, but knowing more from someone that played ball and loves the WNBA is cool.

You sure have a lot of fierce opinions for somebody who doesn't watch and doesn't care.

Oh when the fuck did I say I didn't watch nor care?

You must have me confused for a clark only fan or some casual fan...I'm a Wings Fan. I like to watch Paige and I like to watch Indiana(not just due to clark, i like Boston, and Mitchell, and Sophie too).

I'm NOT the one you can come at over that BS.  YOU are the bad kind of WNBA fan...not me.

I think it would be awesome if 2K26 let her morph into a grizzly bear anytime she goes on a mebounding spree in the game.

She'd make more money playing over seas year round than she would wasting time in the WNBA.

I think the big question is would sponsors follow her, or would she pick up overseas sponsors to offset the loss.  If it happened, I can already see the same players that hate her now accusing her of being selfish and abandoning the league.

No they would not.   And all these fans that just love her would not subscribe whatever streaming service to watch her games.   The games would be on 8 AM in the US or some other crazy time.   I wish people who keep saying this would use their brain.

WNBA players are so ungrateful.  It's appalling.

Somewhat cold shooting but came up clutch in the 4th. And reaggravated an injury.

Time for the Fever to call the season a wash and sit her until/unless they make the playoffs. Let the league live without the golden goose and let her get healthy.

A smart league would start from scratch with new refs and get away from the “hockey on a hard court” mentality.

Hence why I said or would overseas sponsors step in and fill the gap.  If certain overseas leagues can pay more than the WNBA and are presumably self supporting (unlike some leagues, cough cough) then there's obviously some base fan interest a sponsor might find appealing.

The WNBA is as bad at officiating as they are at making layups.

Didn't the Valkyrie coach come out AGAIN and publicly say the officiating needs to change?

Sometimes she looks meh and sometimes she looks pretty bad. The black headband choker is a good look.

Also she needs to quit getting hurt because Fever games help break up the post-NBA pre-college football summer doldrums.

I don’t get Shane Gillis and I don’t think I ever want to

Shane Gillis is hilarious. He’s like if Surly’s main demographic was boiled down into a person (fat, ugly, smart, white, straight), but funny. Think of him as our Druski.

That said, ESPN knew what they were doing when they picked him to host. They wanted the heat and the attention. It would be like picking Bill Burr and pretending you didn’t know he would offend 50% of the audience.

I didn't mind Shane. Dude's a comedian, that's what they do. Also he was kinda roasting people who pretend to follow the WNBA.

Was he though?  I follow the WNBA - I didn't recognize the name when he said it - but I also recognize the league has been around for 30 years and I might just not know players from the beginning of the league.  Its also human nature to clap/celebrate when someone is introduced (and given bonafides like 'former MVP').  I don't think people clapping was indicative of any hypocrisy.

Not sure I’ve ever heard of him. A few clips I saw were not terrible, but he looked like he was hearing them for the first time as he was reading them. probably cashed a pretty big check though.

shane gillis is the funniest, most self aware, relatable comedian today and it’s not even close. and it is hilarious how many people with only surface level knowledge of him hate him, and think he’s maga, because they haven’t ever actually watched one of his specials or seen any of the thousands and thousands of podcast episodes he’s done. he’s so opposite of what they think he is it’s hilarious. he’s self deprecating, self aware, and he likes to rile people up with a wink and a smile. the people who fall for it and get all upset over him or claim he’s not funny are only further proving how funny he is.

i mean, on his very first special he straight up came out and said that he did not vote for trump, and then made fun of trump voters by going, “i know, it’s surprising, look at me, i’m his target demographic. they’re just like, “hey, are you fat and stupid?”, i’m like, “yeah! hell yeah! what are we doing? we building a wall?”, and yet here we are years later and half the population still thinks he’s a maga guy and are all upset about it.

remember when maga cancelled bud light? what did shane do? he kept drinking it so publicly that they made him their spokesperson. he did that, despite everyone around disavowing bud light for being “woke”. hell. earlier this year he actually got seriously upset on his podcast (which is super rare for him when he’s sober lol) at how ridiculous trump’s cabinet were all acting at some ufc event. he was legit pissed and kind of disgusted at how unprofessional and unbecoming it was for all of these trump appointees to be acting like idiot frat bros while front row at a ufc fight. and still, half the country thinks he’s maga because they’re too dense to understand that he’s making fun of maga and doing a bit.

the bottom line is this: every person i’ve ever known or seen who has actively disliked shane gillis is someone who i would derisively refer to as a SJW. everyone on this site knows my politics and what a i stand for, but really do hate the  “perpetual uber victim” faction of left wing people who are triggered by everything, and straight up, if you actively dislike shane gillis then there’s a 95% chance that that’s you. if he’s not your cup of tea, that’s one thing. not every comedian is for everybody. but if you actively dislike him, you’ve probably never given him an actual look, and you’re probably the type of person who is just triggered by everything. lighten up.

So are we allowed to talk about Clark having an objectively terrible shooting season and being nowhere near the best player in the sport right now, or nah?

Its a league conspiracy.   They are moving the rims slightly whenever she shoots.   They dont want her to be the best.   Women be hatin brah.

Sure. She’s shooting horribly.   I think she was doing other things well pre injury though.   Saw somewhere that she gets fouled 70% more than almost any other player.   They defend her differently

but yes.  She’s shooting like ass.

Sir, this is the Shane Gillis sucks thread. Take the CC discussion to the Angel Reese thread.

They probably rushed her back from injury after seeing the ratings and ticket sales when she went down the first time

The whole joke is that people are conditioned to clap?

Yeah, characterizing it as some sort of "gotcha" is stupid. If the host says that someone is a WNBA allstar (or whatever) and I didn't know anything about the WNBA I'm going to clap and believe them, then laugh at the punchline. It was a pretty well executed joke, but of course the current society has to go with a stupid storyline to promote their stupid worldview.

y’all sound like the people who watch a stand up comic and try really really hard not laugh, just to prove that he’s not funny.

yes, he knew that everyone was going to clap regardless, that’s how we knew the joke was going to land, which it did. it has been by far the most popular/talked about/retweeted joke of the entire show. everyone else seems to like it, but then again they aren’t trying to poke holes in what’s just a silly joke.

She shot well last year? She gets a lot of hype but to be honest she hasn't lived up to it.

.405/.329/.887 is legitimately awful.

As far as comedians go, the only one that I can get through their specials is Dave Chappelle. I have tried Gillis, Bargatze, Rife, and Carr none can keep him interested through an entire set.
