I can't see of a Russian submarine thread without thinking of this commercial. A true classic.

Funny story: When the captain says "Slovar!", the captioned translation says "surface", but "slovar" actually means dictionary. Enjoy.

Article from the BBC.  Has a video showing wife of Oceangate’s CEO and captain monitoring audio and text communication from the sub.  You can hear audio of the implosion which sounds like a “door slam”. There was text that was received after the implosion which gave the wife a false sense that everything was ok.  Problem was that the sound of the audio traveled faster than the text message.

Also USCG investigation concluded that carbon fiber hull started deteriorating a year before on a previous trip.

“The footage was recently obtained by the USCG and shows Wendy Rush, the wife of Mr Rush, hearing the sound of the implosion while watching on from the sub's support ship and asking: "What was that bang?"”

Portland, Maine (AP) — Faulty engineering led to the implosion of an experimental submersible that killed five people on the way to the wreck of the Titanic, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded in a report Wednesday.

Apparently they found a working SD memory card in the wreckage. Would probably be distasteful for SanDisk to incorporate it into their marketing campaign.

Would that be more or less distasteful than using customers as beta testers for your submarine?

Definitely more. Something down there ate whatever bits of the customers were left. Nothing touched the SD card. So the customers were relatively less distasteful.
