Classy move to not explicitly spell out the word bitch.

Breaking a teenage girl's face is totally legal and totally cool, and so is kidnapping a teenage girl with a screwdriver pressed to her neck, and covering those things up is standard, but using the word "bitch" would be inappropriate.

Oklahoma is poised to become the Nebraska of the SEC. Great line:

"Since leaving the Big 12 for the Big 10 in 2011, the Huskers have had three head coaches, and one season with 10 wins; the Cornhuskers are the college football equivalent of the retiree who wears his high school letter jacket to try to pick up girls."

Lol.  That’s some wishful thinking.  OU has a fairly fertile recruiting ground in their backyard.  Nebraska never had that and never will.

But Nebraska didn't move to the SEC.  OU's "recruiting ground"  is going to be the worst in the SEC.

Are you trying to be dense?  Nebraska has no natural recruiting turf.  Dallas is 2.5 hours from OU.  It's the same recruiting ground as Texas and Aggy, for the most part.  If there's something that's going to wreck OU and many other teams that were traditional powers, it's NIL.  Look at Lane Kiffin's quotes.  It's like the NFL with certain teams not having a salary cap.  With the bag game it was already a little like that...now it's that on steroids and big corporate money can get involved.

How do you think aggy landed the top class?  Yeah, that could turn football on it's head but OU's footprint in the SEC vs 12 isn't gonna turn them into Nebraska.

The ou fans who pay attention know damn well what the situation is. They have to hit the trifecta for a decent year.
First is Venables has to prove competent. Second, the Dillion kid better have something left in the tank. And third, their defense must be better. They will not have the luxury of the offense bailing them out.

That is a lot to ask…

Agreed. And that's not even dealing with the cratered '23 recruiting class and the length of term for Lebby.  Arguably, the better OU does in the near term, the faster they have to deal with replacing an OC who wants to be a head coach somewhere in short order.  This transition isn't over, and I hope Venables has a list of guys at OC who can step in quickly in the next year or two.

It could go very well, or extremely poorly.  The only thing I don't think is likely is a 9-3, then 8-4, then 7-5 type decline.  It either improves or disintegrates when the SEC move happens.

P. Winfrey wins MVP at the Senior Bowl. It’s too bad Grinch & Co had him playing at 290 and stunting all over the field for 30 snaps a game. Should have been a 305 mauler in the middle just like at the Senior Bowl.

Yep.  And Asamoah probably made himself some money at the Senior Bowl, too.

Venables is a big upgrade for OU over Alex Grinch.

OU's schedule this year is trash.  They'll easily win 10 games and put up big numbers.

Sure feels like the SoCal experiment for Blinkin' won't end up well especially since he didn't upgrade his DC

Grinch is... alright.  He'll eventually have a Top 30-50ish defense out there.  He won't have a Top 10 defense even if he has Top 5 talent on that side.  His scheme doesn't get better with better talent and he's not a good position coach so the secondary is going to be an issue unless they get good at using the portal to bring in already developed DBs.

Riley's offense at OU got figured out, too.  I'm interested to see how he adjusts.  He had really good offenses at East Carolina when he was running a more pure Air Raid.  His big OU wrinkle was incorporating the GT pull concepts into the run game.  The last couple of years though everyone just started dropping 8 into coverage against him and he had no counter for that.  He'll have to come up with one or do a major scheme change for the run game.

I agree.  their only hope if for Bob Stoops to be involved behind the scene.  He still lives in Norman.  Like it or not, Stoops is good.

Agree with your take on Grinch. I'm surprised Riley took him to LA. Seems like a lazy/nepotistic move. It's baffling that Grinch is mentioned as a head coach candidate. Has anyone heard his press conferences?

This has been discussed a lot here, and it's history as far as OU-UT are concerned, so briefly, Riley was able to punish teams who dropped numbers into coverage with his running game when he had a better OL. OU would pave teams that rolled with smaller personnel until 2018 on (OU averaged 6.6 yds/attempt that year).

The decline in OL quality roughly correlated with OU changing S&C coaches. The last two years the OL looked plain fat. Improved OL play simply because they aren't gassed in the 2nd quarter is big opportunity for improvement.
