Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts

he could have used more live throws in game last season.  florida got the dog shit pounded out of them and he had 6 attempts.  team opened the 2nd half up 3 scores against clemson and that was an opportunity to see some real snaps.

Isn’t he confirmed playing injured? Also hey I would’ve killed for 33 completions today (ignore the interceptions)

So I was masochistically perusing social media to read people's reactions on Arch's abysmal performance and some Texas fans were swearing up and down Arch is an alcoholic.  They said he's at Fiji (I guess that's a frat?) every night getting plastered.  Surely that's just nonsense, right?

the thing about all of the mentions that VY was really struggling his redshirt sophomore year against OU and Mizzou before turning it around (besides the fact that we’re comparing arch to VY) is that the solution to VY’s problem was for mack and GDGD to get the fuck out of the way and just let VY (and in turn RT, jamaal, selvin, etc) be himself and do his thing. we literally just needed our coaches to get out of Black Jesus’s way. that’s not the case with Arch.
something is clearly off, because he never looked like this last year. we all expected him to take a step forward, and instead he looks like a make-a-wish kid dying of throwing-shoulder cancer. which means that there’s either some magic, instant fix that we need for sark to find, or, that we are supremely screwed as we’ve hitched our wagons to Arch, and there’s no one else who is going to step in and take over. the most pessimistic person on the planet could not have predicted this level of complete ineptitude. if the answer isn’t something that we can discover and fix overnight then this season (and this board) are going to get ugly.

“Make-a-wish kid dying of throwing shoulder cancer.”, for some reason has me LOL’ing HARD early on a Sunday.

The other issues with the VY comparisons is that VY was not running a spread offense until 2005. Comparing stats for spread vs. non-spread QBs is completely meaningless.

VY piled up 1000+ rushing yards his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Is Arch adding that level of production on the ground? No? Then it's time to stop making this comparison.

Which leads me to…what’s going on with Sark? With the play calling? With the sloppiness on his side of the ball over which he has control? I get helping arch along and the missed throws but the play calls are vanilla and defenses are ready for them. A concern? Or am I just not seeing it right?

you are a class act, That Guy. People on this forum were buttass wrong and assholes to you all last year and you still all class man! 🫡

Yeah, no one knows with certainty wtf is going on at any given time with any given player or group, there's too many moving parts for certainty.

Which is not to say no one knows shit and everyone is wrong. Rather, the soundest theory stands a decent chance of being wrong.

Thayguy presents pretty sound theories. And doesn't get baited into just name calling when people trash them and are wrong.

I still can’t believe this is happening. The game before when Caldwell came in for a few drives and threw some passes it was like a revelation since we haven’t even been able to complete EASY passes this year. Just simple slants. Stuff you take for granted but damn, we literally couldn’t complete anything yesterday. If it looks anything like that again next game, there is no choice left but to move on from Arch immediately. That sucks to think and say but that performance yesterday was Garrett Gilbert getting booed off the field level or Swoopes against Arkansas like someone said earlier. Average QB play gets this team to 9 wins by default with the defense. Good Play, 10+ wins and a potential deep run in the playoff. Great play, championship easy. Right now we’re seeing something worse than below average play. I like blaming sark about everything when I can but the plays have literally been there all season and arch can’t hit a single one. People complained about leaning on the run game early yesterday and not letting arch throw more but fuck, then everyone saw what happened when he did that. You think that getting the running game going early would build some confidence in him that he doesn’t need to press and do everything himself and somehow he was worse! This offense needs an identity and needs to find what it is with arch back there and it seems like sark is exhausting all the options but we’re getting close to the end of them. Maybe we just lean on running him like Notre Dame with Leonard last year. SH is a BAD team, if he can’t put up 250+ yards and above 60% completion through 3 quarters then get Caldwell ready to go for Florida

And I’m fine with Sarks play calling for these games. These are about execution since we can simply choke out teams of this caliber with our defense. If our guys can’t beat their guys with their execution then we’re just fucked. No need to get crazy with the gameplan and scripts against these Doodoo teams when we can win with one hand tied behind our backs, which it feels like we literally have been with the QB play.

Counterpoint: this board is already as ugly as the girl you don't take home from the bar at 1:45.

He was 26/31 for 325 in his first ever SEC game. I can't imagine him even throwing 26 catchable balls out of 31 right now. How did he get so much worse?

I am curious if the biggest proponents of Arch will now entirely flip their support to a state of hatred, because, well, that’s what people do. Often, the people they turn on are the ones they rooted for or loved the most, because for some people, everything has to be an extreme.

And for the people here who had already penciled in the national championship for Texas, we can expect the exact same level of malice, because people are ridiculous.

Well an issue with drinking would explain things.  Sark being extra protective and not allowing Arch an out of saying he is injured. Perhaps it makes rhe Caldwell signing make even more sense.

College kids do college things, but I'd be hesitant to take the word of anonymous posts on social media. It's not like recent events haven't proven a majority of people posting on social media are bat shit crazy and wrong about everything.

Whatever is happening is real, mental goblins are hard to shake, but at some point you need to do the needful to get the help needed for someone and save the season. If we don't have a quarterback than can throw and things stay ugly, recruiting suffers. Damn near everyone in the SEC looked better than us in being able to score yesterday.

Unless something has changed - why the f&*$ do I see so many QBs for other teams on the headset, looking at tablets, talking to coaches, etc. on the sideline during games getting in-game coached up while Arch just sits by himself looking like Schleprock? WTF is going on here?

Oh great so he's a racist AND a drunk?

We can just replace him with my cousin then.

We’ll see how the next game goes but seems pretty clear the immensity and weight of all the pressure and noise got to be too much. I feel for him. I’d like to think he could flip a mental switch, stop overthinking, tap into something primal and just say “fuck it”. In reality he probably needs to be sat but staff should say it’s an injury, something semi-serious. At that point he needs to leave campus for at least a few weeks and do some kind of deep mental health work.

For the people that are blaming the play calling or the WRs, here’s Exhibit A.

Just horrific QB play that every D1 QB should make. Out of every QB that I’ve seen play UTEP, he might be the worse in ages.

Arch threw that one two steps too late as well. Just awful mechanics.

lol my Twitter thread made it over here

Anyway, don't post much here anymore, but showed up to just drop this screenshot from his interception in the endzone. He stares down a wide-ass open tight end and doesn't throw the ball opting to scramble around and throw a yoloball in the endzone. Don't know if he was just insanely overrated, pressing way too much or both, but he absolutely sucks. Hopefully he'll get better, but he's not a P4 quarterback right now.

This feels like that moment in Trouble With The Curve when the asshole scout is watching his prized prospect fail to throw batting practice pitches correctly.

That's his roomie, Livingstone, open on an out route. The TE dragging across the middle was open, too.

Yes, or Wingo needs to settle in the soft spot. If you look at that play from the back you see if Arch throws it at him he throws it into traffic.

More horror shows from Arch. Why isn't he seeing the field better and anticipating throws? This ain't Sark's fault.

I think it is to the point he no longer trust his abilities either. But it’s odd he was scared to make that throw to Livingstone but then throws that ball across his body for the interception. He is mentally fucked, all we can hope for is the staff/Mannings can get him right during the bye week at this point.

Caldwell has gotta get more snaps this week. We can't count on Arch mentally un-fucking himself at this point.

Florida isn't a great team, but The Swamp is not an easy place for visiting teams. They'll be amped up for UT's first visit as an SEC member. We'll get their best effort.

gah brain fart on my part mis-identifying the target

But that play just underscores the problem right now: There's not even a read here for him. It's a designed play to go to Livingstone. If he's open, throw it. He's open, THROW THE DAMN BALL. It's real fucked that the *best* case scenario is that Arch is terrified of making mistakes because the other option is that he literally has no idea how to play the position. Nevertheless, right now he's a serious negative and this is an 8-4 season at best the way he's playing.

The weight of the Manning name is crushing his confidence? I dont get it, he was perfectly fine a year ago. He's seriously mentally screwed right now. The line gave him a lot of time the majority of the snaps, they weren't bad. Sark does them no favors asking them to block outside zone against small quick defensive fronts, and stupidly keeps going to jumbo compact sets inside the 10 and trying to smash it in. Neither of those things are working at all against anyone.

Outside of that the line wasnt bad. Receivers were open. He just couldn't hit Charlie Kirk if the barrel was an inch from his neck

Seeing how well FSU recovered after a year with DJ U doesn’t make this seem nearly as bad in the long term.

That being said, Arch doesn’t seem fixable by this point and I’d rather is just roll with Caldwell and eat the consequences.

The thing that made VY special (other than his God mode running ability) was his demeanor and swagger. He reminds me of that line from gladiator, “death smiles at us all, all a man can do is smile back.” No moment was too big, he was loose and confident and it inspired those around him all the way up to the coaches belief in him. He was truly a kid having fun with his friends and the hero of the story.

Arch, right now, is the complete opposite of that. A true antihero. Everything looks rigid and forced, where 1st and 10 feels like 1st and 100. He’s stiff, uncertain, and hesitant. He hasn’t shown any moxie or leadership. He needs to sit, he’s getting worse with more reps. And if the alcoholism is true, Sark knows firsthand how destructive that is and needs to do what’s best for Arch and get him into rehab.

Peyton and Eli, please have this talk with your nephew.

Once they go over film together it will look much worse. Arch needs to find some outside help for his mindfuckery, and Sark needs to work quickly on longterm backup plans.

The problems are undeniable and can't be shrugged off. That's the only "good" news about this debacle.
