Dude is a starting QB for a helmet school, is on tv and all over social media constantly, has a legendary last name, and millions in NIL money.

He can look like the kid from Goonies that was locked in the basement.  He’s still going to date 10’s.

Doesn't matter. More is better. Bigger muscles mean more strength, means longer passes. Pile it on.

I'd like to think UT has a conditioning coach that knows his shit, but even those guys can be of the "what could a little lifting hurt?" mindset. For all we know, the Mannings have entrusted Arch's development entirely to the UT Staff. And truth is, a little lifting right before going out and throwing long passes could indeed fuck up a muscle or tendon.

If you can throw the ball sixty yards at 18 years-old, if you can rifle it on target, that's good enough. See the Tom Brady stuff. By the way, neither Peyton nor Eli look like they spent much time in the weight room.

I'll stop harping on this except to say something ain't right about this kid's accuracy compared to last year. Hard to believe it's mental, but it could be - and if so I'll give Sark the blame. Manning doesn't look prepared. He looks like he took a step backward.

This is 100% mental.  If he was this bad in practice it would be known publicly and I doubt the team would have the guts to even show up for the games.  Because of the ridiculous expectations he’s trying to be perfect and overthinking.

Has Arch tried this?

He is probably feeling overwhelmed, which often leads to indecision and anxiety, which piles up more stuff to do and leads to a vicious cycle. My approach when there is too much to do at work is to choose a couple of things to do and tell all other project heads to take a hike. Arch should tell coaches that he will only practice a couple of pass plays until he  feels comfortable and coaches see the improvement. He is trying to process the whole playbook and is unable to act on even simple stuff.

Some of the Longhorn players do, in fact, read Surly Horns, which makes the continual, most demeaning insults posted by that small group of so-called Longhorn 'fans' here even more inexplicable.

It makes no sense to root for a team when your chief contribution is to hurt it, but people often don't act in the their own best interests.

I’m sure that this has been mentioned before.

But Sark is fucking up the offense in general by going for 4th and 6 bullshit. If you kick the ball go up 10-0 and reset; the end result is likely 17-0 and it’s on. But you over engineer it and frustrate the entire team and then tell them that they are trying to do too much. Because you put them in that situation.

Take points. Don’t ever go for 4th unless you’re about to lose or you’ve been pushing people around and you’re about to destroy their will. That’s not what we are doing.

Choir, hear my sermon.

Yep, he could take a lot of pressure of the offense by kicking FGs.  Give them an easy win for the time being if they are in FG range.  I love the 'go for it' mentality but this offense needs to take some baby steps for now.

Anwar just said he doesn’t think Sark can bench Arch without putting his own job in jeopardy. I vehemently disagree. Sark’s job is to play the best players to win games. If that’s not Arch, so be it.

Yea no.  Not benching him may eventually cost him his job though

Bear in mind that Anwar knows shit about fuck and has chosen to hitch his wagon to the POS ham smuggler Ketchum.

It wouldn't put his job in jeopardy, but it would pretty clearly demonstrate that his reputation as a QB whisperer/offensive genius was always wildly overblown. Things would have to really go off the rails for him to take that hit to his ego.

Considering he’s getting booed already I don’t think there’s going to be many upset to see him benched.

You want Arch smoking unfiltered Lucky Strikes?

I think what you are wanting is the football game scene from the movie MASH.

I would argue that his reputation as a qb whisperer was properly blown, if not underblown, up until he arrived on campus in austin.  you are correct that it is now overblown.

If Caldwell could be 85% of Stetson Bennett, and we kick field goals when we should kick field goals, we would be in the playoffs and in the mix for a national title. That won't put Sark's job in jeopardy.

You make a good point. I'll tell you another thing Sark does. We get 4th and three or five at midfield and Sark insists on going for it. Note to coach, you've got the best D in the country, do what just about every other team in America does and punt it, pin the other team inside their ten and your offense gets it back around midfield - as opposed to turning the ball over at mid-field, stopping them and getting it back inside your own ten. That's a tried and true strategy. He's got an offense firing on three cylinders and he's asking them to drive the ball eighty yards for a TD.

He’s not good at managing the game like that because he gets too locked into being an OC. Just another reason he needs to give up play calling.

I'm here to pull for Arch, and I can't imagine what he's going through. Lots of pressure and expectations. It's painful, but "we'll see" as the Old Zen Master said. What I'm not here for is Bobby, Gerry, Scipio, Paul, Ian, Eric, et-fucking-cetera to try and diagnose the situation for me. You've already failed up to this point. Sorry you have to fill 15 hours of podcasts a week but your license is temporarily revoked.
