Worst event of the entire season for the PGA tour - Zurich Team event, 2 man teams playing alternating shot and best ball (or as they call it in the Ryder Cup four-ball and foursomes). News flash for Jay and his money team, #NobodyCares

sidebet  - which set of brothers has the best finish
Fitzpatricks/Hojgaards/Coody's
also to Kuchar & Stricker get to play from the Sr tees

There are multiple events that should be axed from the tour. This tops the list.

If people knew who this is, you'd be getting a ton of upvotes. I did not know she is a Longhorn fan. I like her even better!

Yeah, who is she?  Asking for a friend.

Would have been funner if anyone else had won, but I ain’t mad at Rory and Lowery.

Rory: rich enough to wear the swoosh only
Shane: walking billboard
Trainer: not even a shirt sponsor

I always love to see underdogs win life changing money.

Paying appearance fees is prohibited by the PGA.

yep.  but i'm sure he was compensated through the PIP or equity payment he's about to get.  somehow, some way, Rory was given a little financial kiss to play New Orleans.  just too convenient that now Rory decides to play the team event when there aren't any of the real big names there.

and the whole broadcast, everybody was so effusive about how awesome New Orleans has been, how the hospitality is second to none, how Rory got a standing O at dinner last night.  they do want to try and pump some blood into this event.

this tourney could be really good if they could get the high profile guys there.  Jordan/JT, Scottie/Sam Burns, Hovland/Aberg, Rose/Fleetwood, Homa/Fowler, etc.

I agree it could be good. Even with the 2-player team approach. I don’t want it in other tournaments, but as a once-off novelty in a season is ok.

Unless you elevate it, or put it in a different spot in the rotation, it’s never going to be much more than it is, I think. Your top contenders just went a stretch of events, and they’re ready for a break.

Now go and move it to a week before a big event, and it might have a good chance at getting the big dogs to show up. Even if they treat it as live practice/warm-up/shake off the rust for the following week and don’t push quite as hard.

Oh, I’d also gladly have a night at a pub in Belfast with Rory and Shane. I’d say throw in Feherty, but last I knew he’s off the wagon and I respect that. Would he smoke a joint though? Ok then. Back deck with a joint (or edibles) instead.  That would have to be highly entertaining.

Now Rory is partying in the tent and singing Journey?  Something is going on.

So that's where the Spazmatics were this weekend...

Rory seems to be all in for the Ryder Cup. He changed his tone about LIV players and RC after Rahm defected. He may have taken this weekend as team practice for the RC. When the RC happens, I wouldn't doubt it if Lowry is his playing partner for most of it.

I'm in a $5 per week pool with 20 people and we all get a pick each week. Needed Rory to lose that one. Fuckin Ramey/Trainer killed me with that choke job. Not as bad as Blair/Fishburn though. I will say, this was more fun than I thought it would be to watch.

Jordan doing Jordan things
(remember when that meant he made a 60+ footer, or chipped in a couple of times)
well today it means he is +1 so for and will need to go -3 or 4 for the rest of the round to make the cut.
this is where his fan club is these days; watching and hoping he makes the cut

Go Jordan Go, birdie man birdie

Just dropped in to say the course for the Byron Nelson looks as bad as any I have ever seen in 50ish years of watching golf on TV.

Looks like a muni course in Odessa.

(Edit: I see it's in beautiful McKinney, Texas -- right off the freeway.  And sponsored by some kind of Asian frozen food?)

(Edit 2: Damn, I just saw a bunker rake.  I've never seen a bunker rake just lying in the grass on TV).

(Edit 3: Justin just swept away his footsteps with his foot after hitting a shot from the bunker ).

I was reading an article on Scottie earlier and saw a fairly surprising fact about the start to his career:

Quote

It took Scheffler 51 tournaments after his first win to win his 10th PGA Tour title, that's faster than Tiger Woods who did it in 59 events...

That Scheffler did it faster than Woods isn't the surprising part. The surprising part was the rest of the sentence:

Quote

and second to David Duval who won 10 in 33 starts.

Its amazing how fast that dude's career went to shit after that 2001 Open championship, his last win at age 29.

I remember that Duval stretch. He was unworldly there for a while with his game. I was excited to read he had been working out and training for the senior tour, but haven’t seen much since. So it either went poorly, or wasn’t much to write about since. I haven’t digging to far either, and sr tour isn’t as well covered.

If I recall right, he went to pursue fitness, like super for t and it hurt his swing. He had already been super successful, and Tiger was already becoming dominant, so why fight to get your A-game back to only be second best.

yeah, he went off the deep end

being super fit doesn’t play well in golf. Be fit, have endurance, you don’t need 18 pack abs

Chasing distance is a story as old as time.

Harsh 18 for the number 2 guy today

That was hard to watch. These guys are not accustomed to that immense pressure. Last week, Martin Trainer choked in the playoff hole against Rory and Shane. He had the horrible chunked chip and then the missed putt from the same distance as this guy.

Why is cheating at golf so much more frowned upon than cheating in other sports-where we frequently give players a pass?

It's a gentleman's game founded on decorum and honor. Plus there's usually betting involved so cheating is severely frowned upon. Who wants to play with a known cheater?

Fair point,  but people cheat/hustle in billiards, darts, cards, shooting hoops, even video games.  Seems like cheating at golf, while not exclusive to the game of golf, the cheaters are more demonized than in other games/sports/activities.

Golf doesn’t have referees or umpires. Your opponents are not always in your vicinity. Without strong self-governance, there could be no fair competition, whether that be a $2 weekend nassau or tournaments at the highest levels.

Most of the other games/activities/hobbies I mentioned don't have umpires either.  But yeah, I get the point---it's literally a much more wide-open space than any other activity save for maybe hunting/fishing that self-governance is held in higher esteem and cheating more frowned upon than other games.  I only play about once a year and I make it a point not to cheat even in the slightest.  Not because I give a shit about my scorecard, but out respect for the other players that take it more serious as we're usually raising money for a good cause or churning up business.  But I've noticed that some folks whom are just known cheaters and kinda get a pass from the same people that would shit a brick if I were to take a generous drop.

amazing how well grounded Scottie stays. Imagine tiger’s career if he’s not out chasing tail 24/7, popping pills, or thinking he should try to become a navy seal
