Sweet Breakfast is Trash.  Be a fucking man and order the Biscuits and Gravy.

A real man eats the biscuits and gravy with a side of pancakes/waffles and maple syrup.  Not the real maple syrup but the high fructose corn syrup maple flavored syrup because it tastes better!  Oh, and don't forget the sausage and bacon on the sides.  I would have said eggs also but I would have to take out a second mortgage on my house to be able to afford eggs at this point.

Saw a poll this morning asking Americans about Trump, Canada, and Mexico. There was actually a positive view of how the U.S. is handling Canada. Jesus, I can’t believe how stupid Americans are.

It's infuriating, but the thing to keep in mind is that these polls are essentially lagging indicators, because the majority of those polled don't pay much (if any) attention and have no idea what's going on yet.  There's no constituency outside of Trump's really rabid base of support for a trade war (or an actual shooting war) with Canada. That might change as he escalates shit and really ramps up the propaganda to support an invasion, but I doubt it.

He really should have started with Mexico. The American people would've been a lot more likely to tolerate this shit with them.

I watched some of it. I'd never heard of the man. I think he looks like a great introduction to politics and discourse. The format is entertaining which is required to hold attention. He argues well. The way he thinks is how things should operate in discussion about serious matters. Two thumbs up.

He's famous in my part of the world wide web for the way he dismantles libertarian callers. Some great content on that topic on TMR's youtube page. Live show just started btw. Like and subscribe, it's a very informative source for news and politics.

I'm honestly stunned that someone who's been pretty politically engaged for decades hasn't heard of Sam. He's not Dan Rather or anything, but he's very well known on the left.

He went with who he assumed would be the bigger pushover. Plus, he wants to add white English speaking people to the US, not brown people that he can’t understand.

At least with my family members it's not willful. They would not choose to be brainwashed.  They think Fox News is fair and balanced and accurate. They think NBC, NYT, CNN are liberal media and they are the ones who are spewing untruths.  I think they are prejudiced and racist, but that is because that's what they knew growing up and never questioned it enough to put it aside. Hell, I don't think they have the capacity to be introspective enough to know they harbor hate.  They would probably be shocked and hurt by the accusation.  No one is doing anything to disabuse them of their wrongful thinking.  There are a few family members, maybe 15% who know better, but none of us want to risk our relationships by trying to show them the error of their ways.

The Socratic Method is kryptonite to Republicans that still support Trump as it just exposes how little they know and when pressed to answer questions, they typically get emotional and let their masks slip off.

Yeah, that's pretty obviously it.

I don't know what the prospects of war with Canada are. It sounds so strange.

Lifted out of the rational world and considering the malign idiot running our country, I can imagine Trump thinking that everybody in the US unites when we attack somebody. Usually we do so with an absurd fairy tale of how we're actually defending ourselves. Afghanistan is the only exeception that I can think of.

Trump cannot be expected to have any notion of what war is actually like. He ran away from it as a young man and has neither the curiosity or imagination to visualize it. He's one of the idiots who thinks, "neato!" watching the tanks roll. He'll get to watch all the best battle footage. Vicarious thrills and bravery!

If any other president spoke like this in the past, we would question his sanity. Plans to erase the Palistinians to build a resort is lunacy. His abuse of power is manifest in his moves against government and persons he resents. He feels nothing doing so. He's sociopathic.

I can certainly believe that Trump has images in his head that make attacking Canada seem like a glorious plan of action. I just can't see anyone carrying it out. I guess maybe he could keep firing generals until he finds the right psychotic, but the whole chain of command would presumably be revolted at the idea.

Sorry to muse at such length. I'm taken wholly by surprise that so many of you conclude this is very possible. Can't get my head around it.

I'm rooting for a junta. Strange days.

Este. He hates Trudeau and thinks of them as pushovers.  Those of us who actually know Canadians know that beneath that very pleasant demeanor, they are fucking nails.  Also:

I was probably legit clinically depressed in the days/weeks after the election. This is going worse than I thought. Combined with no coherant resistance and Dotard’s still decent polls numbers….

I was pretty despondent for a few days, then turned my political brain off for 3 months, figuring I would need the break before shit truly started hitting the fan after the inauguration.

I figured it would be horrible, way worse than the first time. Didn't think it would be this bad this quick.

Mike Judge made a documentary about America's future.

Matt Groenig predicted Trump's presidency and countless other developments.

and Trey Parker and Matt Stone foresaw war with Canada.

who knew 21st century life in the USA would be forecast by cartoons 😐

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention during the election, but I don't really remember any talk of annexing Canada, making all our allies fucking hate us, switching sides and supporting the invading country over our democratic ally, shutting down entire agencies illegally, dismantling our government, generally making us way less safe everywhere across the board.....

So apparently Trump mentioned that he didn't like the treaty establishing the US-Canada Border and that he didn't like our shared water agreements when talking to the Canadian PM. This and Trump just casually talking about Canada being the 51st state and referring to the Canadian PM as a governor. He is clearly threatening to annex all, or part, of Canada and taking their resources.

Insanity. How is the media not giving him hell over this? They act like all Canada is mad about is the tariffs.

No I was assured that all my memories of chaos and insanity during his first term was wrong, and I should prepare myself for a peaceful and prosperous time.

Instead my concerns were clearly insufficient for the actual danger he posed.

Dumb question alert.

What cars do we import from Canada?  I wasn't aware the Canadians had any car brands of their own.  Are these American cars assembled in Canada, or am I missing something?

And aren't the tariffs Canada charges for dairy just part of the USMCA agreement Trump negotiated and signed with Canada just a few years ago?

It kept me away from here for a few months…and I’m still not engaged as much as I was, particularly in CR as I was closely tracking threads for news.  Had to stick my head in the sand because I knew it’d be bad

Tariffs work by taxing things crossing borders. Cars are assembled here in the US in Mexico, the US, and Canada with components and materials crossing borders multiple times. Hence the panic by the Auto industry over the tariffs.

The company whose brand is on the car is not the issue.

It is in the sense that my point is that it would disproportionally hurt the American auto industry.  Those of us buying imports from Europe, Japan and S. Korea would be relatively unaffected.

We're basically cutting off our own nose to spite Canada.

Yeah that really is a dumb question.  But, you won’t have to ask it again. Lots of assembly and parts manufacturing in Mexico too.

ok maybe you still need some help. All Japanese makes aren’t made in Japan and shipped here. Same for Korean and euro. Many are made here, or other countries in North America. Many have parts fabricated in North America that go to the North American assembly plants.

this all worked great when we had free trade between us, Canada, and Mexico.  Now we do not.

Not really.  Almost 50% of US cars are imported from Japan, S. Korea, and Germany.  Versus 36% from Mexico and Canada
