It's really crazy how they just keep stumbling into nazi shit over over and over and over and over.

This one isn’t getting that much attention, but it is probably the worst thing Trump has tried to do and fucks the average MAGA the most.

The rate credit card companies charge is directly tied to risk. Having lower rates means they won’t take on risky clients (lower income, lower credit score), which means many people will no longer have access to credit or much less of it.

You can see why this would be of interest to Trump’s horde of under-demons. By limiting financial flexibility, it keeps the populace dependent on ruling class (tech bro oligarchs). Long term people are less able to take risks (like starting a new business) and are stuck working more in lower and lower paying jobs.

The dream for the hell lords is for no one to be paid at all. Modern feudalism and serfdom, where all wealth is controlled by a select few with absolute authority over life is given to our new kings and lords.

Nothing these guys do or propose is for the “good of the people”, it is all towards the goal of total control and absolutism - but wrapped in a nice load that MAGA can swallow.

This isn't my take on this at all. Predatory loans with rates above 10% do a whole lot more to harm poor people than a lack of credit ever will. This absolutely would tank the market, though. This country runs on debt.

I've done some purging of maga associates in my life, but tonight I'm going out with an older maga couple I've known since I was a kid. Good people, at least I thought so, but depending on where the conversation goes this might be the last time I ever talk to them.

In fairness they aren't the hardcore types. No signs or hats or anything. They're of the "Well I don't really care for him but what am I supposed to do, vote for a democrat?" variety.

I've been in a golf group with mostly older guys for the last few years. I've known who they were, and they've known who I am, and we've had an unstated agreement to just not go there. A few of them like to occasionally drop some dumb political jokes that I just ignore but we've mostly peacefully coexisted and had a good time together. This weekend one of them started saying the most horrendous things about Good on the 13th teebox and I just couldnt let it pass. It got real ugly for a few minutes and the final holes were dead quiet. I will not be playing in that group any more. Frankly a bit of reflection for myself the last 24 hours that I should have exited from that group long ago but perhaps was too selfish to do so. This is all so fucking weird.

NATO would reform in a heartbeat, without us. Same buildings and facilities, same wording in everything, just without the US.

Serious question. Say the mid terms are allowed to happen and there is no bullshit and the dems take back the house. They impeach the president. He and his defense team just don't participate at all in the senate trial. What happens?

There is so much legal stuff that would happen, and don't forget, they would be putting Vance in power, you think Vance is going to turn it down if they impeach Trump and order him sworn in? Congress also still has the power of the treasure and could shut down a lot of Trump's bullshit, could even fuck around with budgets for various agencies/the White House.

And that is why I believe that Trump is desperate to get that Venezuelan oil sold off and that money in coffers he controls outside of the Congress's reach. I know that it is mostly him trying to funnel that money somewhere (donor or family member) because the grift is real, but I think there is still a very good chance that he thinks he needs to have money that Congress can't touch.

I just posted in the DT Greenland thread that the EU Commissioner for Defense stated they need to create an EU Defense Council + the UK as a result of our invasion of Venezuela and the threats against Greenland, because they can no longer depend on (or maybe trust) us. I heard it on NPR while running errands a couple of hours ago but haven't found anything in American media yet.

The Buddhist monks were joined by a bunch of folks in a city in Georgia (I think.)

This should be cool for a wildly overpriced stock market. Good job, brilliant businessman.

Edit: apparently, subpoena was served on Friday, probably after market close. It's not an accident that Powell waited to release this info until the last hour, when the futures market opened. He's not going to let them do this as quietly as they wanted.

Is Powell the highest profile person the DOJ has gone after?

Yeah, I thought that about my inlaws until today. Turns out they are very much “I don’t like the way he talks, but I like his policies (which they cannot articulate) and, oh I don’t know what you’re talking about with child rape and fraud and criminality and everything horrible about him”. Good luck.

It seems a lot of us are getting there with people we've carved out exceptions for. What a fucking week.

Was playing poker a few nights back and a few regular players were joking with the guy to my right how dour he was. I’ve played with him a ton and we chat on occasion. He seems like a good dude but I have no idea his politics. He looked at me and said softly “we have about 10 months left as a country” and we then just moved on to the next hand … what do you even say to that anymore!? What the actual fuck, all around.

What you do is arm yourself and those you love, teach them to shoot, and discuss self-defense tactics and plans outside the presence of any cell phones.

We’re there, guys.

Oh. And be prepared to die. No matter what you do. The regime can kill whoever it wants, for no reason at all, any time it wants.

I hate guns, and I hate our gun culture. I'm one of the first to rant and rave every time there's another mass shooting.

But it's crossed my mind many times over the last year that I should get a couple. And over the last 10 days, I feel like I now need to, whether I want to or not.

This place is fucking unraveling and I don't see how we stop it.

Obviously, we can defend and conduct offensive operations from Greenland without "owning" it. We already have that right and ability.

This is about something else.

Could be the minerals, but we can probably purchase mineral rights cheaper (and using private sector funds) than we can "buying" Greenland.

I think this is just some "muh legacy" thing.

Thiel and the datacenter/AI boys all want those minerals. His boy is at Trump's side, so why not get them cheap?

Any other president and the market would crater. However, most current market participants except and even welcome what the President is doing. They are sychophants without balls. They are probably on the phone now with Trump to see what can be done to aid the market in the morning.

I’m close to the point of just accepting that shit like this should go ahead and happen. Let Trump dictate interest rates and tariffs and get his fat fingers in every facet of our society and break it all and give us runaway inflation and let the AI bubble pop and maybe we’ll also see some companies like Tesla and Amazon and Meta take one on the cheek. Give us what we voted for. Throw in some measles and increased flu deaths and lack of cancer research and basic science. America is broken so just smash it up so we can pick up the pieces and hopefully start something new.

This couple’s view would echo most I know. But the ICE tactics, and now credit card rate controls and Powell subpoena will tank the market. He’s out of control and most I know are openly talking about it. He’s already tanked the GOP for the rest of my life, I expect. But I now do not expect him to make it out of this term.

Sounds neat.

Till you start figuring out the scale of suffering and death it will take to get there.

I mean, Germany picked up the pieces and turned out alright. Problem is, these were some of the pieces:

Strong arming Fed Chairs isn’t new. LBJ and Nixon famously did it. But they didn’t federally/criminally investigate their adversaries because they wouldn’t lower interest rates. This guy is the most overt crook thug to have ever had this office, and I had an inkling of his character in ‘16, yet am continually shocked by the havoc he wreaks on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

If we did what you propose, the market probably wouldn’t be that affected. Lower rates are great but they’d be counterbalanced by lack of credit card funding available and the fact that we are moving closer to dictatorship. The consumer with credit would enjoy lower rates, but be subject to a middling market, and then rising inflation that would really get out of control for the next president (if we have another one) in ‘28. And whomever that is, most assuredly a Democrat, would be lambasted by a decrepit Trump until he dies, when his actions alone caused it.

On the Powell thing, I'm told affordability was a hoax. But who are we kidding, Trump wanting to lower rates likely has nothing to do with mortgages. It's probably because him and all his buddies to be able to borrow money (including O&G now with pot'l Venezuela projects) at low rates.

Hell, one of the O&G people last week probably said they need another point on the interest to make it economically viable so of course we're going to intimidate the Fed Chair now.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis vows to block Trump's Fed nominees following Powell probe

  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said he will block any Trump Fed appointees, including for chair, in light of revelations that the Justice Department is investigating Jerome Powell for potential perjury charges.

  • That position substantially complicates the road to replacing Powell, whose term as chair expires in May.

  • While Powell’s term as chair ends in May, he can stay on as governor until 2028. He has not indicated yet whether he will do so.

President Donald Trump will face an important obstacle — from within his own party — as he seeks to replace Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said Sunday he will block any Trump appointees to the central bank, including for the new chair, in light of revelations over the weekend that the Justice Department is investigating Powell for potential perjury charges.

“If there were any remaining doubt whether advisers within the Trump Administration are actively pushing to end the independence of the Federal Reserve, there should now be none. It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question,” Tillis said in a statement.

“I will oppose the confirmation of any nominee for the Fed — including the upcoming Fed Chair vacancy — until this legal matter is fully resolved,” he added.

That position substantially complicates the road to replacing Powell, whose term as chair expires in May. The banking committee, of which Tillis is a member, has 13 Republicans and 11 Democrats, so even one defection sets up a stalemate.

Tillis usually supports Trump but occasionally has broken with the president. For instance, he was one of just two GOP senators to vote against the One Big Beautiful Bill spending package last year.

Powell’s position isn’t the only one at stake.

Stephen Miran’s term as governor ends in January, and there has been chatter about potential retirements, particularly Vice Chair Philip Jefferson.

However, news that the office of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, a Trump confidant and former Fox News host, is investigating Powell for perjury clouds the situation. Powell on Sunday released a statement acknowledging the investigation and alleging it is a pretext for giving Trump power over the Fed.

Meta names former Trump advisor Dina Powell McCormick as president, vice chair

Prior to joining Meta, Powell McCormick served as deputy national security advisor to President Donald Trump, and she served under Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in President George W. Bush’s administration.

Powell McCormick marks the second former member of the Trump administration that Meta has hired in recent weeks. The company said earlier this month that it has hired a new chief legal officer, Curtis Joseph Mahoney, who previously served as a deputy U.S. trade representative during Trump’s first term.

“Congratulations to DINA POWELL MCCORMICK, WHO HAS JUST BEEN NAMED THE NEW PRESIDENT OF META. A great choice by Mark Z!!! She is a fantastic, and very talented, person, who served the Trump Administration with strength and distinction!,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday.
