I’ve been saying this for years. Burr is ok. Cross doesn’t give a fuck.

Cross gives a fuck.  He has taken principled stances in the past.   I would like to see the outcome before I pass judgement though.  I seem to recall Burr mentioning in the past that he would perform for anyone anywhere, because he thinks that by shared exposure we can create change for the better.  Is he now too comfortable to rock the boat?

There's one thing in common with every sector of American society that has gotten us to this point of failure. A refusal to adhere to any sort of ethical standard for common decency. Over and over again every step of the way down has been littered with people only looking out for themselves and not caring about what their actions will do to the greater country at large.

Outstanding post. It’s like whether they were smart or dumb or rich or poor, the whole damn country decided it needed to emulate Gordon Gecko’s “greed is good” instead of Mr. Smith and his filibuster speech.

He was comfortable railing on the people of Philly. You think he’s willing to do the same to the saudis?

Not when he's performing in Saudi Arabia. I don't think a single one of them will dare to perform jokes that could literally get them thrown in jail, or worse. I guarantee every single one of them has the same restrictions we saw up farther in the thread.

I can't understand how these guys have so little self-awareness that they don't see what's coming.  At least as far as Chapelle and Burr go, they're rich, and this is just going to make them a little more rich with horribly tarnished reputations.

Not sure if y'all noticed, but people take money from SA all the time, especially entertainers. Nobody is tarnished.

Liv golfers?

Formula 1?

Dana White?

Saudi Aramco expats?

What tarnish are we talking about?

A few of us may think about it and wish it were different, but none of us is turning down $10MM+ to perform a set.

Shouldn’t that be “now you don’t see me, now you do?”

I think that's the third episode.

And that's why SA does this shit.  To whitewash their reputation.

So, you’d play Sun City?

Are you making an offer?

It's unfortunate, but $10mm allows me to help more people than standing on principle (and nobody knowing about it and someone else taking the money).

I've sold to Saudi Aramco for a lot less.

I've bought diamonds for my wife.

I've worked for multinational companies that have invested in atrocities over time.

I've paid taxes to the only country to ever deploy a nuclear weapon... Twice.

I am fully aware of situational ethics.

If my job was to speak in public railing against hypocrisy and advocating for free speech AND I could still make millions elsewhere, I would absolutely turn down multitudes of my net worth to publicly sell out to the Saudis. And lots of athletes rejected them.

Now, Saudis want me to work in an office for 6 months pounding away at a keyboard inside air conditioning for 10mil. Ill take it. If you cant see the difference then I cant help you.

FYI - Probably the equivalent of Kevin Hart taking 10 mil is like me doing it for 10k.

Also... it's not like they're giving them 10 mil. They're taking 10 mil.

I see the moral dilemma but I'm not gonna hate on someone for doing it. It's not like they are getting paid 10 mil to support the regime.

I chose burr and chapelle specifically for my scorn because they should have more than enough money to be able to stand on principles in this case.  The others are either demonstrable money whores who wouldn’t turn down any check or need the money.

Giant stacks of money >>> Standing by your principles when no one will care in a week.

Expecting otherwise from just about anyone, professional "jesters" especially, is foolhardy.

We don't know what the offer is for a night of jokes.

I'd be interested in what jokes are told.

Chappelle is the one I would suspect to find a way to skirt the rules. Maybe Bill Burr. Kevin Hart is just going to be funny little entertainer and take the money.

I'll bet you everything that I own that zero jokes that would offend the Saudis will be told.  Want to take that wager?

The rules for the show were posted above in this thread.  MBS put his own family in custody a few years ago when he took charge until they paid him off and swore fealty.  He had Khashoggi murdered and cut up into little pieces.  You think he is going to let comedians say anything controversial about him in his own house?  Lulz

Creative rephrasing of “money doesn’t smell.” He’a changing his bank account for the better.

Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are going off the air.

But rewind... So what? Imagin if the kingdom said, "joke about us and Islam all you want. Go nuts."

That wouldn't change the history of what happened and it probably wouldn't be considered highly funny.

I don't recall these comedians being geopolitical beacons of freedom and morality, other than they don't like to be censored. They're not freedom fighters. They're entertainers who make people laugh. For a price, they will tell jokes and avoid topics they don't ever joke about, anyway.

Situational.

This idiot thinks he's part of the club. He's the Nazi Jew of the new century. Above, he looks like he's offering his face for a leopard.

That will be a glorious page of posts here when he's offered up as an incompetent idiot criminal to get The Donald out of a tough spot. There's an endless list of toadies who have proven themselves to be just a despicable as this turd.

The United States of Whores if so. I think you're wrong, but I've been wrong before. Who would have thought that W would be re-elected?

No, I don't think so. See below.

I think this started with Reagan taking a high paying offer to speak in Japan. Japan was rocking and apparenty, along with Germany, would surpass the US. Imagine the amusement and scorn in a shame society that an American President could be bought so cheaply.

I think the Saudis get a kick out of Trump holding the orb or countless high profile Americans, many already rich, bending the knee for cash.

People have died refusing to bow to tyranny and villainy. We show what we've changed into. The dark side of America prevails.

If the 800 flag officers tamely return to their commands and hope their not among the 20%?
