Who coaches the D for the Bowl Game now?

I mean, the defense is just going to be a shit  show in the bowl game.  Embrace it even if we lose who cares. It’s all about 2026.

The results were mostly good, but I never thought the style PK wanted to play defensively was a match for this league or what we did offensively.

Think about how many times Sark said they want to play tighter coverage in the secondary. It was a like a 4 year running thing.

I am not sure this will make Texas a better defense, but it will definitely change how they play defense. Much more aggressive defense. It may make Texas a more physical team and culture.

Not a bad thing

And considering PK had trouble with the Briles' tree veer and shoot, and now 2 coaches in the SEC who run it (Briles at SC and Lebby), we won't give up 38 points to MSST again

They are trying to find a landing spot for him apparently but that is proving to be very difficult. Considering he fucking sucks and all.

hard to argue with PK's results. No idea if this works out, but it certainly comes with risk.

This is an easy upgrade and allows us to have an experienced SEC-caliber DC instead of the woke pac 12 style of defense we have had under PK. Now he can go coach in california like he always wanted and Muschamp gets to return here.

Was thinking about that. Texas under Sark have had a nasty habit of starting slow, playing catchup, then trying to hold off teams late. There’s been no killer instinct. And part of that is because PK defenses sit back and keep the ball in front of them to reduce big plays and force other teams to work their way downfield. For the most part, the Texas defenses have been very very good. But when they ran into aggressive teams, they struggled more. Maybe Muschamp does bring a little more edge to the D and they make more big defensive plays, and the team overall is more aggressive.

Have they called Hartline? Maybe Tim Beck needs a co-OC.

This.  PK’s style of D was not a good fit for the league or to pair with Sark’s O.  This seems like a better overall fit.

Our D has been amazing, our Offense has struggled and in no imaginary world can that be attributed to the defense.

I'm sort of pissed about this, I want to see the Offense get the attention it needs. PK had his side of the ball humming

Muschamp is an upgrade, especially if PK was wanting to go back west coast.  All of you(myself included) who have been screaming about the soft coverage we always run, that has been PK calling the defense.  Also for a few years now, there have been rumblings from people that PK isn't the strongest recruiter, I have no idea if that is correct.  But I do know a guy who played for him who pointed out that he isn't a big recruiter and that was part of the issues we had recruiting defense a few years ago.

Look PK built the defense back up and I appreciate the hell out of his work and wish him well, but Muschamp is again an upgrade.

He's a troll that we keep around in hopes that he'll predict Texas losses because he's wrong 90+% of the time. Pay no attention.

true, but look at PK's results

DFEI:

25:13

24: 3

23: 6

22: 8

21: 47

3 top 10 defenses in the last 4 years, so it is a high bar for Muschamp to be a success. Sark is replacing one of the best DCs in the country. This is not like firing Akina.

He's a DC right now. Why would he take a demotion to come back?

Granted GT's defense wasn't great this year. Defensive FPI rank was 83rd.

Gideon is going to leave a DC job to come back to Texas?

PK left a head coaching gig to be a DC.  Stranger things have happened.....  We do know that from the past Will seems to be pretty set on guys he wants on his defensive staff....might be more changes than just Akina....who knows.

We should see if Michigan will agree to just do a “skills challenge and autograph session”. This doesn’t even feel like a real game anymore.

PK also had zero personality and couldn't even be sent on the road recruiting. He offered zero value in that area.

Not saying Muschamp will be burning the road on the recruiting trail but he is surely going to offer more in that department.

And anyone upset about this just ask yourself one simple question… who has been better at defense the past few years, us or Georgia? It’s an easy answer. And yes I know muschamp wasn’t DC there, I’d still favor anyone on their staff over ours.

Agree. I don't get the "style" comments with PK. Sark was supposed to put up lots of points and PK would force teams to string together long, methodical drives that get more difficult to execute as pressure mounts. PK held up his end of the bargain.

That wasn't PK, that was the HC at Montana St or something that came to Austin to be the LB coach.. Then left to become the HC at Nevada..

Yeah if the mutual aspect is true then bringing Muschamp back is a good move. I know we're all fans and lose sight of it, but players and coaches are real people. If PK wanted to move back west then sometimes that's all that matters.

Right. This isn’t fantasy sports.

It is very unlikely we are done with staff changes on 12/18. We need some coaches for the bowl game.

Our defense has been good overall.  It hasn't been amazing...at least not this year.  We're ranked high....but seriously ....Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas, Miss State......the defense had some really bad moments.  Outside of the 2024 defense, PK's defenses were never as good as their rankings made them appear.

3rd and 19 against vandy, end of the game against OU in 2023, etc.  I appreciate PK and the job he did, but Sark has wanted tighter coverage since he arrived and this year it was worse than ever.  That isn't Akina, he wasn't pass defense coordinator, PK called the defense and the  coverages.

Will might manage the department better - help with hired, S&C, portal acquisitions, etc. Just be more aggressive

This is what makes this move an upgrade on paper.  PK is a great coach, but that's all he wants to do.

Unlike PK, Muschamp was able to put together a great defense despite having Akina on staff.

Naw. Akina was a fine DB coach, if you run mostly man coverages. He's not a modern disguised-zone guy. He's only bad in that he wasn't able to adapt to the new thing very well.
