We were favored to make the CFP, play for the SECCG and had the fucking Dr pepper commercial QB and main Madden QB.

Just because you like to be a revisionist doesn't mean anything you are saying is true.

Its great where we are and it is better than last year. I'm not picking weird shit.

If we are pre-season number 1 it will be hype like we have never seen before, mainly because we have never been pre-season number 1 before (I was kinda shocked by that).

I doubt they brought in Akina to overhaul the secondary schemes anyway. Bigger concern is the individual talent of guys stepping up to replace Barron and Mukuba.

It's more than just a question of the"individual talent" of the 2025 secondary... the way the 2024 unit played together was critical for their success.  Having 5 talented players in your secondary doesn't guarantee success if they don't play together, play their assignments and play intelligently.

Barron + Taaffe + Mukuba kept that secondary tight and in the right places/coverages -- gonna be interesting to see how well this year's secondary plays as a unit together.

I’m also worried about our offense. Last year we had all the experience across the board. This year we are young across the board  gonna be fun to see how sark dials it up

This team will average more pts per game than last season

You guys are arguing semantics. Who fucking cares? We were hyped last year and we're hyped this year too.

Enjoy the ride, the coverage and hype are gonna be bananas by the time week 1 in Columbus gets here.

Sir, I will not stand for antisemanticism.

Love the thread title. Here’s to Steve “Bum” Sarkisian getting the the sumbitch kicked all the way in. Luv ya Burnt Orange!

While I'm 100% Luv Ya Blue, I am 100% against riding with the Bum outcomes for this team.

But, yeah, kick the sumbitch in.

Definitely, but don’t undersell how much it will help to have QB run option, in terms of opening up holes for our backs. There will be added hesitation on every handoff to make sure Arch isn’t about to do a 70 yard dash.

I don't think run blocking is the worry.

I am pretty bullish on this secondary, but I expect our pass defense stats to dip a bit based solely on the fact that we are about to face a better group of QB's than we saw last year.

-Davis Warren pretending to play D1 football for Michigan

-Van Buren in his first career start for Miss State

-Hawkins who couldn't throw a forward pass for OU

-Florida's third stringer

-Brock Vandagriff for a half before Stoops yanked him

You would think one or two of Reed, Pavia or Green will take some steps forward as returning starters.

I also think we are going to see a lot of teams try to dink and dunk against our pass rush so we will need to try our best to avoid getting dragged into the mud by some of these teams who want to control time of possession and shorten games. We fell victim to that in a few second halves last year where it felt like we barely touched the ball (although some of that blame falls on our own offense).

Taaffe is back.  Practice reports say that he isn't allowed to call the signals much of the time so everybody learns to recognize and make those calls.  We have several coaches devoted to just the secondary.  We have - by my count - 16 scholarship players in the secondary, and those scholarships are hard-earned.  They are aggressive, intelligent, coached-up and hungry.  Our entire defense is going to be a fucking abattoir.  Think '85 Bears.

Sark and Flood have traditionally been good at scheming things in the run game to where we were beating teams by alignment/numbers a handful of times a game. I'm going to guess those tricks may not work against the Georgias and Ohio States of the world, but they seem to work against a lot of the other defenses.

Even in the 2023 Bama game, we really didn't run the ball super well (92 yards in 29 attempts from the RBs). Same thing with Michigan last year (88 yards on 27 carries). The passing game drives the offense in the big games against the great defenses. That appears to be a feature and not a bug at this point and I would assume this year will be no different.

Personally, I don’t expect a repeat of the numbers from the defense.  We don’t really need that anyway.

Part of that is the under appreciated element of the hammered dogshit personnel that we went up against.  It’ll be improved - The Ohio State over Michigan.  OU certainly can’t be worse.  A&M should be improved.  UF won’t run out an Ivy League QB.  MSU likely won’t run out a QB for his first start.  Georgia will be a bit wait and see.  Per Phil Steeles experience chart, we get the top 6 in the SEC, which leaves Arkansas and Georgia outside that 6.  The draft results tell you one of two things regarding the offensive talent of our opponents, maybe both - it was weak or not draft eligible.  There’s a strong likelihood our opponents are far better equipped to create matchups that better suit them as compared to last year.  Better Olines, better QBs and probably better skill guys.

The hope would be an uptick in our pass rush covers for the back end when it’s off.  And don’t take that to mean I’m saying we won’t be damn good on the back end.

Personnel. We didn't really have maulers up front like they had at Bama.

Conner, and Majors were more effective at mirroring defenders than they were at driving DL backwards.

Hutson tries to play more physically, even if he isn't always effective at it. Neto is super physical, but he doesn't always know who to block and at what angle. Campbell hopefully goes nuts this year.

Either way, more physical guards and center this year. We'll see if it translates.

They won't do it, mainly because week 1 is defending national champs so they will give them the nod. Texas will likely be 2-3 on most.

I think Simmons, Moore, Burke, Hill, and Spence are going to dominate.

As long as we score 40 points, right?

If our special teams can go from one of the worst in the nation (last year) to just average, we wont lose a game

A place where things are struck down. Indeed.
