DOGE cut park staff from 200 to 20, so now they have to spend millions on park cleanup and maintenance instead of thousands. And, Republicans and Trump screwed up DCs budget intentionally, so they can't make up for it with DC resources.

It's not completely fair, but between Witkoff, Trump, and the January 6 realtors, real-estate people could be the dumbest identifiable group of people that make good money in the country.

Realtors are overpaid tour guides.

Without question, and it didn't start with these buffoons.  There is no other industry where the barrier to entry ratio between intelligence and income potential is wider.  Financial planners/insurance salesmen are close, but real estate professionals (whether developers, realtors, etc.) take the cake.  If you're a dumbass with loose ethics and you like money, it's right there waiting for you.

Well, it's sales, where connections and "personality" can go a longer way than sheer smarts.  And it is inherently a big ticket item, because that's where it's at with sales.

But it doesn't take much real understanding of the product, unlike a lot of other big-ticket sales jobs.

And commercial real estate and development can involve some intelligence and skill, but certainly doesn't have to, just the ability to talk bankers or others out of their money.

Most realtors I know are people who want to be entrepreneurs but don't have much to bring to the entrepreneurial table other than a desire to be entrepreneurs.

No doubt there are intelligent people involved.  It's just not a requirement.  No judgment from me, either.  I sometimes look back at the hard work of obtaining an education and the endless hours put into carving out what has been a successful legal career, and think, "I should have gone into real estate."

Statistics are tough because of the number of people who are realtors as a hobby, side gig, or intentional part time work, but the majority of realtors don’t make big money.

Not just a majority.  The VAST majority.  Both of my parents sold real estate for a good chunk of their adult lives, particularly my mom.  The turnover among agents at her office(s) was off the chart even back in the 90s.

There's a woman on my street who is a realtor.  I've known her 14 years and she's selling 2-3 houses a year.  Her husband makes ok money and covers the bills.  He's admitted to me that he's A-OK with it because it gives her something to do and put of his hair.  She's dumber than a box of rocks.

It’s a hobby that beats Mary Kay or whatever that puts you on the hook for products you dont sell. She ain’t on the hook for a house that doesn’t sell fast enough

They are on the hook for desk fees with their broker, and marketing materials.

So we're talking about sending the national guard to Chicago to "fight crime" now as well...good thing so many people of a particular persuasion spent so much effort passing laws that are primarily used to put young black men in jail so that God fearing white folks who style themselves as proponents for the downtrodden could feel a little safer have spent so much time trying to dismantle the very thing that could be the last hope for our republic.

1 death is too many but

“in 2025, violent crime in Chicago has continued to plummet, particularly gun violence. Crime data expert Jeff Asher noted that the latest statistics indicate that, in 2025, "the available evidence suggests that Chicago has seen fewer shootings so far this year than any year since the mid-1960s.”

Miss me with the pearl clutching and especially with just accepting the premise that a military occupation is going to make any difference

Ah, so Pritzker said that 9 killed and 52 wounded was not a big deal before it happened. What foresight!

Burglary and theft are way up. But if they’re not using weapons, then that’s better than nothing I suppose.

How about having a pedo as President covering up for himself and his pedo friends, does that seem kinda bad?

I think he cares more about covering up his hand honestly.

No, his stance is that he’s got crime under control. Seems like he doesn’t.

How does that justify using our military for domestic law enforcement duties? I don’t call an electrician to unclog my toilet.

What's your stance? That a city with a crime rate outside the top 10 should have the military sent in to police it?

Should every city that has a higher murder rate than Chicago be subject to the same?

I don’t know if it’s justifiable or not, but arguing that he has crime under control seems like a bad idea.

I wish these fucking pussies would go to chiraq - the real parts that actually would justify a presence that was heavy handed. They will go to magnificent mile though.

How many of those shootings took place on the Magnificent Mile or outside the Field Museum, because if Trump follows his DC plan that’s where the National Guard troops will be patrolling.  They’ll also probably be picking up trash in Millennials Park

Hey, moron, that’s not what’s being argued here. You do know that it’s possible for two things to be true at the same time, right?

so that's a yes; you think the US Military should be sent into cities to fight crime.

Actually, Pritzker said he’s preventing crime. I don’t think that’s a strong argument. No need to get nasty because you didn’t do your research. Calm down.

Again, that’s not what’s being argued here. Do you or do you not support using our military in domestic law enforcement operations? If you do, why are you focused on Chicago instead of cities with higher crime rates?
