Yeah, that motherfucker wants to protect the environment.  LOCK.  HIM.  UP.

The oil and gas industry is fairly important to the state so we view it differently than states like Oregon or Washington.  Many Texans view increased regulation as increasing the potential of losing their job.  The last oil crash is still fresh on our minds.

This is a big deal right now in Colorado.

Hypothetical Question:

Is not voting for Ted Cruz (by not voting) really by proxy a vote for Beto? What I'm asking is, can I get half credit and cool points for just abstaining and letting Beto's wave do it's thing and I can just not actively help his opponent? Asking for a friend.

And if it wasn't that there would be another reason. Concern trolls should always be ignored.

No.  You should vote your conscience and own your vote.

Forgive me if I've missed it before, but what are your politics? I don't see any prejudice in your analysis, so I can't tell.

Do you wish the Dems had nominated a better candidate for winning than Beto? Do you have a candidate in mind? Maybe you're a GOP sick of Cruz and wished for a more conservative Dem to vote for?

Just curious.

I'll probably vote for Beto, but not because of my conscience. My conscience is the opposite because I'm generally a single issue voter (pro-life). But I'm swept up in trying to be cool and topical and trendy I guess. J/k, just because it's really important to someone who asked me to vote.

You already got your "pro-life" Supreme Court justices, now go place a vote for a real Texan who actually gives a shit even if his politics are a bit different than yours. It won't kill you, it might even do some good. Vote Beto.

I don't predict outcomes. I have no idea what this crazy electorate will do or why.

In this case, I'm glad there is at least one candidate of conviction and integrity on the ballot, Beto. For the first time maybe ever, I felt like I was in a Frank Capra movie when I voted straight Dem. Up or down, I feel great about that vote.

I don't care to vote for another robo-candidate specially packaged to be vague and pandering. Both sides churn them out in droves by either squeezing the individuality out of candidates or choosing vanilla Halloween masks in the first place.

I need to have a vote I can get behind with full mind and heart. I'm revolted by my country at the moment. I'm disgusted with the face of our government at the moment. Beto is right on the issues, and he's the kind of man/candidate we need in larger numbers from all over the spectrum.

Some glimmer of light would be nice in this Brisket World of darkness.

Moral victories don't mean shit.

If you were truly pro-life then you would never vote R again in your life. The best way to get of abortion is through education (abstinence-only is proven to be extremely ineffective), safe sex (access to contraception), and access to healthcare - none of which the GOP wants to fund.

I'm looking at his actual voting record here

http://politicsthatwork.com/voting-record/Beto-ORourke-412575

100% on gun control... 100% on raising taxes.. 79.2% on higher spending.. 99.4% on environmental protection. 100% on "robust safety net".

Gun control alone will disqualify him with most moderate Texas republicans.

If Dems want a Senate seat in Texas, you can't put someone up there with this kind of voting record.

As a senator Ted has missed 238 of 1723 votes, 13.8%, compared to the median 1.5% of currently serving senators.  Hell he missed over 94% of votes q1 2016. If your boy isn't there to actually vote on record, does it do you any good to have him "representing" your interests?

It's really that simple, and Texas Democrats have been getting their asses kicked for decades trying it.

As others mentioned, any Democrat in a general election is going to get "PELOSI SOCIALISM WILL BE LED BY BROWN INVADERS" rhetoric thrown at them. It's funny watching someone pretend like voting records matter in this election.

This is the other side of the "Dems should run Republicans" coin- Republicans

"If you are really pro-life, you should vote for the party who is pro-killing fetuses (babies, is the belief there)" - Pro-killing fetuses-ers.

I am a-political so I am considered a Nazi on this board.

I don't like Cruz because of all the Tea Party theatrics and would have voted for a democrat if they put someone up that I could stomach.

There are 3 things I personally don't like about Beto (one being more of a general dislike about current dems)

1.  Oil and gas stance..  Sorry i'm not going to vote for shooting myself in the economic dick.

2.  Gun control..  Voting for every single gun control measure for the sake of voting in favor of it was clearly pandering.  There are laws that could be passed that I could stomach but he's signaling he'll vote for any form of gun control no matter what.

3.  Impeachment/obstruction...  I don't like the shitstain Cruz for the tea party theatrics and I wont support anyone who plans on obstructing for the sake of it.  Act like an adult (and my fucking Senator) and get a deal hashed out with the other side of the aisle.

I really do think there are a lot of people who would have been willing to vote against Cruz as payback for not getting anything done for 4/6 years of his term.  I am one of them.

Scored 100% on the following:

  • Lowering poverty
  • avoiding default of the US govt
  • LGBT rights
  • Humane Immigration policy
  • racial equality
  • taxing the wealthy (vs taxing the poor)
  • women's rights
  • robust safety net
  • Countering Russian interference
  • Humanitarian Aid
  • Public Health
  • Funding Education
  • Disaster Relief (Cruz lies about this all the time)

The top line on your link says that Beto support the Middle Class 96% of the time and 100% favors broad civil rights over narrow civil rights.

As far as gun control, the vast majority of Texans and Americans support stronger background checks.  The right always fears having their guns taken away.  No one has ever said that would occur.  Stop being a snowflake about your unfounded nightmares.

I was getting ready to issue my standard pushback on your takes but this actually shows some thought and even a little pragmatism.  (I don't agree, but I see your points.)

I hope you realize that since the Republicans have controlled what pieces of gun legislation, or anything else, that reaches the floor that Beto voted for bills with bipartisan support.

I think all three of these are fair although #1 doesn't impact me personally much.  I think Cruz is pretty much a scumbag and not a true Texan so he was vulnerable to me.  I think Beto also should have run a lot more ads about how Cruz visited all Iowa counties to run for President but what has he done for Texas in the same vein while he (Beto) has visited every county?  What is Cruz's real priority, Texas....or Cruz?  What has he done in the last 4 years?  There was a good opening for negative attack ads and I think he didn't utilize it enough.  On the other hand, I think Cruz ran a very good TV ad attacking Beto as more extreme compared to Warren/Sanders etc on TV.  That works in Texas.

I don't take any of the impeachment talk seriously because it started before he was even sworn into office and all I've seen from the Dems is #resist.  It's the exact same kind of shit I didn't like about the Tea Party.

We just saw a supreme court justice get voted in along party lines and insanely dirty politics along the way.  You have to be fucking brain dead not to connect that was a political game.

Come to the table and work with the seated President and compromise where you can.  There has been zero attempt to do that by the dems just like there was severe resistance by the tea party.  If you can't do that (regardless of party) then you are acting like a fucking child that didn't get their way.  Stop trying to make the country fail and offer some constructive ideas.

So do you agree we should replace all the senators who didn't give Garland a hearing?

Sorry, but this just isn't true. Do you not remember the Dems coming back over and over to try and get a deal on DACA? That was a good faith effort on their part. And it was torpedoed by Trump.

It's my opinion that Garland should have been granted a hearing.  That doesn't mean I think we should replace all Senators who failed to give him one.  That would be a very stupid reason to vote for a Senator.

I vote for what I view as in my own best interest and I think party politics is stupid.  Right now, I view Cruz as less of a threat to my livelihood than Beto is.
