Tired of hearing the receivers suck.  Every team seems to have plays to get players open.  Sark got pissy when a reporter asked him about the playbook last week.  Maybe he should get angry at himself and hood staff and stop sniffing his own farts.

The receivers are fine. It’s the QB that is the problem.

I don’t think we have a great qb or great wr’s. We have a mid qb, mid wr’s and a shitty o-line.

it’s crazy to see how slow we look on offense this year across the board, we have zero big time playmakers.

I wish he was mid.

No worries, that record will be broken again this Saturday. Of course half of them may be against Caldwell after Arch is carted off the field.

Can someone tell me just what QB could be successful behind this OL with a coach calling nothing but long pass plays??

I bet OU beats that number this Saturday. Every team we face is going to blitz the fuck out of this line.

I don't think they will.  Florida was getting home rushing four against our 5 + tight end.

The coaching was certainly bad, but sure would like to have seen the defense come out right away and hit people hard. They could have done that. Instead, Florida came out with fire in their eyes and hit Texas in the mouth and Texas never recovered.

It was sickening to see Simmons talking smack to Lagway who was out there on one leg and a bum arm or shoulder and took care of business anyway. He was a totally one-dimensional quarterback who couldn't run or scramble and he still played his ass off. Florida never trailed after that first drive. That fumble on the first play of the game and they got it back set the tone for the rest of the game.

Simmons should talk more with his play on the field and less with his mouth, when Texas is being totally outplayed.

The defense is struggling with the apparent significant downgrade in interior DL capability.  It obviously plays out with how bad we get gashed at times by a decent running game, but the quickest way to fuck a QB is for the DL to get push up the middle (even if they don't get home), freeing somebody like Simmons to do what he does when the QB can't step forward and either has to start moving in his direction or is still at that spot deep in the pocket where DEs sort of naturally rush to.

Caldwell has performed excellent whenever given the opportunity. Is the fear of a QB controvery holding Sark back. It may be good for both players and the team if Caldwell is given some reps for a change of pace \m/

I still assumed we'd win a dogfight in this game with a wounded team, at home, coach on the hot seat, Lagway playing Texas.

the high(saved our corch!) is probably over and they will go back to being Florida again against competent teams.  Wilson will help but i expect they get drilled next week and Lagway will probably get hurt. It was amazing watching a gimpy QB just torch us with no pressure at all from our D.

This.  In 64 years of watching Longhorn football I have NEVER seen a defense this poor at stopping the run.  Wide, off tackle, or up the gut we showed no ability to stop anything.  No way our talent can be that poor, the major problem has to be coaching.

I have such a radically different take on what's going on and I was talking at length about it with Will Matthews today who was on the sideline - we both saw/felt the same thing.

This team isn't soft, they are just dispassionate. There's a lack of any vibe on the sideline or in the game. Everyone in their own world, no one hyping the team.

I distinctly remember the Taaffe interception and how he was getting up and ran over to arch manning and was hitting him in the helmet or shoulder pads with the ball all excited and no one even high fived or patted him. It was fucking weird. Arch acted like he wanted him out of his face. Trying to find it on broadcast and I'll out a clip.

Yeah, kinda surprised anyone would put any stock in x-rays on an injury like that.  They don't show soft tissue injuries with any accuracy, afaik.

That's an interesting point.  Obviously, not comparing the talent, but I think about somebody like Tom Brady, who was an absolute psycho when his teammates did something well, screaming in their face, head-butting them, slapping their helmets, jumping on their backs, etc.  Fire is kind of important in a game whose design is to try and physically beat the shit out of each other

Was pretty obvious in person. The jack endries body slam tackle comes to mind too.

You're correct.  When I blew out my knee playing intramurals brother, I went to the ER.  I was told the X-ray was negative.  Pre WebMD, so I went out for another catch 3 days later and immediately dislocated my knee again.

I don't believe sark is "calling nothing but long pass plays."  I'm gonna assume every play has short, intermediate, and long routes, even if designed for one of the short routes.  And even if the play is designed for the short or intermediate route, I doubt Sark is going to order Arch to take only the short or intermediate.  Arch seems to have a preference, conscious or otherwise, for longer routes, where hopefully he can see separation between the WR and defenders  And, maybe rightfully so, because he's pretty scary on short and intermediate routes.

They don't suck, they just don't understand how to get separation, which is an ongoing theme for 5 seasons now, aside from Worthy, Golden, and Moore. That's it. Just 3. I'll throw in my boy Whitt for 4, but that has nothing to do with Jackson.

Why? They don't need to blitz to bring pressure.

Glad you brought this up.  There were times during the game (and other games this season) where I saw what I perceived to be apathy or resignation.  I think dispassion is a better term.

I chalked it up to the team's realization that it has problem areas and they are just waiting for that wheel to fall off or that tire to go flat.

Add NIL, where some guys are making crazy money while performing poorly, it can be a recipe for dispassion and/or resentment.  Do you think the players dislike each other?

You must have missed the games where the OU midget ran for near 300 and the time we handed the Heisman to Salaam. I think BYU rushed for 500 or so against us and I remember the coogs and weatherspoon use to gash us for 10 a carry.

This wasn’t even in the top 20

Yeah.  Not close to the worst.

There are others but those examples you cited are a good start.

My company has a big office in South Florida. We have a lot of Miami Hurricane alums that are passionate football fans. They have endured 2 decades of disappointment. This is the type of nonsense they have been saying for many years. "We don't have any dogs" "This (former player) or (another former player) needs to come to Coral Gables and talk about the old days" "We don't have the right vibe, we need more swagger"

Miami was bad all those years for the same reason our crap o-line will lead us to a disappointing season.....it's all about talent.

It’s about talent for sure. It’s also somewhat about whoever is at the top of the org chart setting the proper tone.

Just two plays likely would have been the difference between victory and defeat yesterday. As badly as they played, the game likely would have had a different outcome but for the blocked punt and the errant throw by Wingo. That's rather amazing given what we saw in shitty OL play, lack of run game, crappy tackling and questionable defensive schemes.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? I remember Rashad Salam getting over 300 yards against us. I remember Manny Diaz fire drill defenses. Remember the BYU games?

This weekend’s abomination is not in the Top 100 worst run d performances, as bad as it was.

Well you see....Florida isn't a very good football team.

Rashaan Salaam. 317. And fuck you for  bringing that up.

I remember we were walking across the field after the game because you could in those days. Announcer was reading off the stats. Salaam, Colorado, 317. We knew it was bad but  goddamn that was deflating.

I found myself wondering “who are the VY/Colt/Bijan/Worthy type leaders on this team right now” and I really couldn’t think of anyone.

I don’t think Arch fits that role, which is fine as it doesn’t have to be him. The team just seemed lifeless yesterday, including Sark. To give you another example, it really felt like someone told them some sort of bad news before the game and they couldn’t hide their emotion.

Add the fumble we didn’t recover on the first play. Get that fumble and score, Horns win.

Such a dumb take.  NIL and players getting paid is everywhere and it isn't going anywhere.  Coaches have to manage it...it's the job.  Don't see Tech having big problems so far with their bought roster.

This is a great take.  I have felt the same thing.  We lack a vocal leader and a third year QB needs to be that guy.  He's a  milk and cookies guy it appears.  I get the humbleness of his personality but its to a point now where someone needs to pull him aside and let him know he has to step up.  Some are not wired that way and i get it, but speed of the captain speed of the ship.

It's a pretty young team and especially on offense, the young talent hadn't previously shown out much or had the opportunity to take/provide leadership.

The defense has Taafe, Burke, a couple of others.  Maybe no one in the trenches.

Also, most of the youngsters have only known very limited disappointment in UW, UGa, and OSU.  Whereas some of the older players we'd lost had truly suffered with relatively poor seasons.
