They sure are sensitive about it.

Only when it affects elections.   Many of them realize that if Trump keeps it up, he's going to drive up minority turnout for whoever the D candidate is in a bigly way - any day now, he, or his dips hit sons, are going to retweet somebody who drops the n-word a lot.   Can't wait for what Kanye has to say about that.  Actually I don't give a shit, and I have no idea why Trump holds him in such high esteem.

Republicans, as a whole,  aren't sensitive enough to risk denouncing him.

R vision for America. Fear.

The politics of fear is a tried and true method, especially when you consider conservatives are hardwired to see danger in everything. This may look silly but it will work.

Yeah but Trump himself is pretty scary.  The politics of fear work and painting Trump as dangerous tyrant who is also a lying imbecile racist is not a hard sell for the democrats.  However, Trump has been working hard to create a perception that any criticism of him is un-American, which is laughable but people are falling for it.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/22/politics/illinois-gop-squad-meme/index.html

Quote

Washington (CNN)Two top Illinois GOP officials are condemning a meme recently posted to the Facebook page of the Illinois Republican County Chairmen's Association that depicted four minority congresswomen as being "THE JIHAD SQUAD."

The image, which has since been taken down from the group's page, is modeled after an action movie poster and edited to include the four lawmakers' faces on the bodies of various characters. The women in the photo are Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. The image includes the words "THE JIHAD SQUAD" below the names along with the words "POLITICAL JIHAD IS THEIR GAME" and "IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THEIR SOCIALIST IDEOLOGY, YOU'RE RACIST."

The meme also includes the association's logo. It's unclear who in the party posted the image, or if those responsible have been admonished.

totally normal and cool and not racist

Would.   Support her run.

Meh.  She was a one-hit wonder, and she ran a craptacular campaign for governor.  She was like Tiffany on her 1987 mall tour, singing "I Think We're Alone Now" on repeat to audiences of 200 in middle-market towns.  Never developed a coherent message or identity other than "remember that fillibuster thing and my cool shoes?", and from the sound of her campaign announcement, still hasn't.

That said, an unquestionable upgrade over Chip Roy.

There was a National Conservatism Conference (yes, I realize it's on the nose) last week. One of the speakers got accused of being a white supremacist, conference people got upset at that label, and a journalist covering the conference releases a transcript.

This is where the Republican party is headed with people like Josh Hawley. There are plenty of Republicans who agreed with her, but there remains a facade of "merit based immigration."

Merit based immigration means white people.

Exactly, and these people will one day be in charge of the GOP. If they aren't on their way already. Someone will attempt to take these ideas and make policy goals from them.

Josh Hawley went to Stanford and Yale, lived in elite cosmopolitan London, clerked for Roberts, worked at Hogan Lovells and taught at the University of Missouri Law School.

Not elite.  At all.  Typical blue collar working man.

Their god is someone born a millionaire, who attended Wharton because of daddy's money, and lives in a gold tower in Manhattan.  But fuck the liberal "elites."

On some level, I have to admire their chutzpah.  It's as if McDonald's just started shamelessly marketing itself as "America's healthiest restaurant.  McDonald's makes you skinny, and increases your lifespan.  Heavily salted french fries are the healthiest food in the world, and we serve them so that our customers can become immortal.  You shouldn't eat at any of those places that sell salads and veggie smoothies -- salads are the #1 way that people become fat and die of combined heart attacks/strokes!"

The gumption it takes to say things that are patently false with a straight face....man, I wish I had it.  It would probably make my life much easier, and more financially lucrative.  All you gotta do is destroy and then dispose of any moral compass you might have.

The rebranding of the Republican party has been an interesting process.

When you’re the party of white nationalist poor white trash and fearful dementia suffering olds, well, the  messaging in favor of that can get kinda tough.

Trump constantly spewing out lies is basically the only strategy the republicans have left.

It's really something how Republicans manage to use racism and cultural ressentiment to convince almost half of America that a Starbucks barista in Brooklyn or an adjunct professor in Berkeley is part of the "elite" but the Koch brothers are not.

The good news is the youngs aren’t fooled as easily as their grandparents and just regular old morons and correctly view the republicans as the liars and racists that they are. The republican party is done in less than 10 years. Maybe the whigs can mount a comeback.
