It’s so fuckin hard to win in the sec… then you look at how hard programs with similar (at most) resources like uga and Bama just absolutely butt fucked the conference the last 15 yrs without even a courtesy of a reach around. Fuck offfffffff

It's honestly different now in the NIL era.  The SEC is becoming a league of no bad teams, like the B12 was towards the end (and still kind of is).  I don't think we are seeing the same in the B1G and ACC though.

When I saw that play I knew we were getting Coach Stephen. Horrendous playcalling all night.

It's possible he's exhausted and the question wasn't for him so he let Taaffe take it and he shrunk down a bit. ok so he needs better press handling skills. wtf does that have to do with anything? jesus some fucking phd psychologists up in this bitch

You can who on this board never played sports at a high level. Arch looks depressed because he’s exhausted and beat to fuck. Can you imagine having to haul your ass in front of the media after getting your head kicked in for four quarters? Dude just wants an ibuprofen and to crawl into bed.

Well, it's funny that way.  The teams we compare ourselves to have been playing championship caliber football a lot longer than we have.  Including stacking recruits.

Fifteen years ago we were entering our latest death spiral.  Which, I might add, Steve Sarkisian pulled us out of more effectively than the last three guys.

Don’t worry.

By mid-week we will all be pussies, Texas will have turned the corner, and we will be seeing predictions of winning by two to three touchdowns.

Cheer up guys! We control our fate!

After all, this is a national championship caliber team.

Holy shit it has to be a bit at this point.

For most walk-ons, being on the scholarship at Texas is the goal. Anything beyond is just gravy. Contrast that with a 5 star out of high school, who probably wants to play for a championship caliber program and play in the NFL.

Seeing this makes sense after sark saying he doesn’t give a shit on a post game presser after the ou game. Sensitive coach and now sensitive players. Getting that defensive over a shitty performance says a lot.

Nothing he’s getting defensive over the offense and arch siting next to him. Defense played great and would play even greater if the offense and arch could score just a couple of touchdowns.

Both things can be true.

We can just be glad Texas got a win while suffering a letdown against a very determined Kentucky team, and be upset that Arch missed some important throws, Ant missed a sure fumble recovery with a bungled scoop-and-score, and a veteran WR runs out of bounds to kill the clock.

Perhaps the key takeaway is that Texas has improved to a point where they can routinely win games they used to lose.

We aren't as good as we thought we'd be because our QB isn't as polished as we'd hoped, our O-line is young and bad / inconsistent, and our coach sniffs his own play-calling farts despite clear evidence (see: red zone, see: consistently stuffed by less talent) that he's not that great at it.

Good news is with reflection and effort, those things can improve. Bad news is we aren't seeing it.

Here's my response to Taaffe and the offense.

Augie is 100% spot on here.  That man knew exactly what separates good from great.

It's the willingness to sacrifice and suffer for success, and the ability to focus and compete with intensity every single second of every single minute of every single hour of every single day.

Sark can't get the players to buy in to that notion because Sark doesn't have it himself and it's not something you can fake.

Some of us have been in these environments, know what it takes, and know what we're seeing.  Believe me when I say it is highly unlikely that Texas will ever win a National Championship with Sark at the helm.  The only way it happens is if we stumble into 2019 LSU level talent, the stars align and every break goes our way.

I’ll be frank, I think a lot less of taffe after that press conference bullshit.

He’s always seemed a little too fake for my taste….like he’s trying too hard to be what he thinks a leader is.
Like after the playoff loss (or maybe the SEC Champ loss), he was walking off the field with a camera in his face yelling “I gave it my all” and “it hurts” or something like that.  It’s fine if you feel that way, but just weird to feel the need to project it like that.
He seems to be a good guy and is a pretty decent football player, so whatever.

IMO Taaffe is just protecting his teammates - from the press and also the fanbase.  Nobody's got any idea how this year will shake out, but the guys in the locker room have to really embrace an "us vs everybody else" attitude at this point, especially with the noise from all sides being mostly negative.  Maybe he could've answered the questions more measuredly, but I appreciate him standing up for the team.  Also, I haven't had a second watch and probably won't as there's no current need for anesthesia, but he seemed to play his balls off outside of a couple missed run fits/angles where he gave up outside leverage and couldn't discard a block.  If all the guys who traveled on the team plane yesterday were okay with what he said, it's a net positive.

I’m convinced the quarterback coach just collects checks and does absolutely nothing. Why don’t we see people going over video on the iPad or whatever with him or anyone ever?  I never see much in game coaching going on with the sidelines.

fearless leader #2 created the thread with this title:

<Michael Taaffe wants you to stop being such fucking pussies.>

imma, did you intend for the consumers of this thread to be members of this board or 995ers?

if the former, mirrolure's post above is A FUCKING TRAP

and i know a thing or 2 about traps

if the latter, should the thread title have instead been "Michael Taaffe wants THE PRESS to stop being such fucking pussies."?

if the latter, the negative reactions to the video by members of this board would have been radically different

the goal posts were moved again when we were chastised for not discovering a still-unrevealed easter egg somewhere in the thread that told us we were supposed to click on and watch the full video not just the segment linked to in the op

since the 995ers, in my opinion the most guilty party for my malaise, don't openly post here, i feel like this thread is directed at everyone here refusing to pump sunshine

make me feel like we're not turning in to the ministry of information

unpin the thread

Michael Taafe has to be positive and act like the team leader he is as someone who actually plays the game.

We, as message board fans, have zero fucking impact on what happens on the field. We can will this team to win or lose anything. Therefore, having a realistic outlook on the team’s performance doesn’t make one a “pussy”.

This is how I took it as well. He’s a 22 year old kid trying to represent a multibillion brand and also trying to be a leader in the locker room so he’s looking out for his teammate against outsiders. He knows the offense sucked. Arch knows it too, he said as much. That’s why Arch looked so dejected, he knew he played like shit and he let his teammates down. But Taaffe is going to stick up for his teammate in public. I never put much stock in lost game comments from players, and this is no exception. The red flag would be if Taaffe started casting blame on the offense in one of these.

My take is that Taaffe is a 22 year old kid that is coming off a win, albeit a disappointing performance by the Horn's offense and again, questionable playcalling by Sark, and is being asked about the performance of the team and these are his raw and unrehearsed comments.  I am sure that all of the responders on this site have had time to think about what they are saying and have most likely edited their responses a couple of times before hitting send.  I guarantee you that all of the players know that they are not playing up to expectations.  To chastise Taaffe for his comments or Arch for their body language is reading way too much into the press conference.
