our QB isn't as polished as we'd hoped, our O-line is young and bad / inconsistent

for 6 quarters last year, with a playoff o-line and a playoff rb room, arch looked all-world

i am now 100% opposed to all criticism of arch

polish and timing are a bitch when you get no help

My take is that Taaffe is a 22 year old kid that is coming off a win, albeit a disappointing performance by the Horn's offense and again, questionable playcalling by Sark, and is being asked about the performance of the team and these are his raw and unrehearsed comments.  I am sure that all of the responders on this site have had time to think about what they are saying and have most likely edited their responses a couple of times before hitting send.  I guarantee you that all of the players know that they are not playing up to expectations.  To chastise Taaffe for his comments or Arch for their body language is reading way too much into the press conference.

These “kids” are getting paid lots of money now and that agreement includes representing their employer with dignity, class, and respect. Part of that is knowing when to shut the hell up after the team’s latest fuck up.

  • Not actively recruited by D1 programs
  • Came to Texas as a walk-on. (It may have been preferred status, but walk-on regardless)
  • Earned a scholarship
  • Earned starter role
  • Made plenty of good plays and has been a ball-hawk
  • Yes, Taaffe has exceeded expectations

I get all that. I don’t understand the comment.

A road conference win is still a win. I remember when everyone thought the 2023 team was ass after they squeaked by some bad teams on the road. That team still put it together at the end of the year. Survive and advance and just try to improve each week going forward.

I don't think any of us survive 9 more wins like that. But I guess I'm willing to try.

for avoidance of doubt, i'll repeat, the chastisement would have been of a different tone and tenor if the thread title were not <directed at / interpreted by> <members of this board / first responders> as directed at them and not <995ers / press>

The standard is the standard -- that shit-show Texas performance in Lexington Ky last night deserves to be called out.

No one on offense gets a fuckin' pass on getting their damn asses chewed out -- including Sark.  Boohoo if their damn feelings get hurt.   GOOD!!!  Now get off your asses and get to fuckin' work.

And Sark and Arch, grow an extra pair this week and show some fuckin' leadership!!!  🤘

Michael Taaffe is a badass who's played great football for our team and he can say anything the fuck he wants.

Most of the people bitching about him have sat on the couch and drank a lot of beers for this program and that’s about it.

He was looking at his phone to see what NYT had to say about his recent performance.

He’s always seemed a little too fake for my taste….like he’s trying too hard to be what he thinks a leader is.
Like after the playoff loss (or maybe the SEC Champ loss), he was walking off the field with a camera in his face yelling “I gave it my all” and “it hurts” or something like that.  It’s fine if you feel that way, but just weird to feel the need to project it like that.
He seems to be a good guy and is a pretty decent football player, so whatever.

All American is a hell of a lot better than "Pretty decent"

Ya'll in here acting like VY didn't almost lose to Kansas and Georgia didn't beat these guys by 1 point in Kentucky last year.  Georgia beat them by like 38 pts in 2023 at home but barely manages a 1 pt win at Kentucky last year.  Take a chill pill and change your maxi pads.

He really didn't. He looked like he had potential. Against Mississippi State, the offense struggled to get any consistency. It sputtered with him just like it has done this year. He missed short throws. He threw behind the receiver on screens. He either produced explosives or nothing. That isn't really any different than what we have seen this year. It is just that this time we are seeing what that means against better competition, particularly with significantly worse oline play. The one thing I didn't expect was the balls in the dirt. I think that is a result of screwing with his throwing motion over the summer.  Thinking he is all world because he could beat up on LA Monroe or Sam Houston State is the mistake.

But could VY hit more than 2 out of 10 slants and crossing routes semi on target?  I’ve been pumping sunshine and hope that he’s going to snap out of it but we’re seven games in now and he’s not doing the easy stuff right yet.  Despair is setting in.

Not when he got benched against Missouri when he went 3-9 for 19 yards.

Last night was pretty damning in terms of this team’s ceiling but the team I saw a week ago live and in person can win out.  Likely not going to happen but the potential is there. Claiming we’re losing out is stupid as fuck.
