New South Wales Police say that 12 people were killed in a shooting at Bondi Beach targeting the Jewish community

A further 29 people have been taken to hospital, including a child

An event was being held at the beach to mark the start of Hanukkah had more than 1,000 in attendance, police say

A "night of peace and joy" was "shattered" by a "horrifying, evil attack", NSW Premier Chris Minns says

One gunman has also been killed and a second suspect is in critical condition, police say

An eyewitness that spoke to the BBC described running with his children from the event that was being held on the beach when the shooting began

2 or 3 shots to the bad guy's feet would seem fitting.

Close... easy shot... no intent to kill... can't run away

Excellent takeaway for white shirt guy.

While 25% if ne agrees, the rational 75% wants an interrogation & legal trial.

Let the state / nation do their thing.

Ahmed al Ahmed is a hero, what a brave and selfless act to go disarm an active shooter with nothing but your giant brass balls

Yes! 🙌🏻

I could not tell though if he just maybe didn’t know how to use the shooter’s gun once he had bravely and selflessly disarmed the mother fucker. Ahmed is a hero. ❤️ saw his chance, wasted no time despite knowing he could die and disarmed the mofo.

Incredible bravery.  Imagine if one of the Uvalde cops had the stones.

Here's a helpful tip:  from behind the shooter, place one forearm around front of neck, the other forearm across back of neck.  Snap them toward each other until shooter is paralyzed with pain or neck breaks.  The effect is instantaneous.  If you do not believe this have a friend GENTLY demonstrate it on you.

I'm more confused why he left the gun leaning against the tree. The one post said he didn't have any prior gun experience, so I'm not sure he would know how to remove all ammo and render the gun useless.

Glad he's ok though, and agreed he's a hero with big brass balls.

It's clear the hero realized he could be mistaken for one of the perpetrators by continuing to hold the weapon and so he put it down. So many conflicting thoughts must've been going through his mind.  I would have wanted to command the killer to lay face down on the ground or pump a bullet into his leg to incapacitate him but it's not clear it was safe (what/who was in the background) and the previously unarmed guy was probably and rightfully scared af. Quite a selfless act of bravery.

No, a friend showed me this tactic fifty years ago.  Some effects you never forget.

If he’s holding a gun when the police arrive, he’s dead.

Sure. But maybe secure it somehow? Idk. It's akin to arm chair quarterbacking so I guess I should just be happy that he was able to disarm the pos. Again, not trying to take away anything from this hero. He did something almost no one would do.

Australia huh?  Guess Jim Jeffries is going to have to rework his gun bit, which sucks because that bit is fucking awesome.

And that fruit stand guy has MASSIVE cajones on him.

I had read a while back that Australia's version of the gun lobby had worked to relax some of the initial reforms done for gun ownership and that it was much easier to own a gun now versus ten years ago.

Per this article, Australia currently has twice the amount of guns today than it did in 2001.

No thanks. In 2003 I was standing in an English class in Mexico trying to teach them words by charades. "Break" came up, and I hit my neck with one hand and the side of my head with the other. A little too hard.

There was a pop.

For a few seconds I and the class looked at each other, as I waited for my body to collapse under me. Thoughts like "what a stupid way to go out" flashed through my mind.

Pencils are cheap. Snap a pencil in two if you're teaching English.

It’s amazing we have all these action heroes here that are saying they would have done things better and faster and even more heroic than Ahmed Al Ahmed.

I’m (allegedly) the only person who knows how to kill without leaving a trace and Ahmed Al Ahmed has my thumbs up here. Naturally,  I would have eliminated both of the jihadists right after they exited their vehicle. Off camera. Leaving no trace of myself, just a buttload of confusion for authorities as they try to investigate the seamless and deadly killings of two armed jihadists lying there dead  on the ground before they ever fired a shot. Or washing up on a beach. Ya know?

And I’m pretty much the expert here I feel like. Shame on the rest of y’all nitpicking this hero’s amazing takedown.

picture of hero below and I hope he receives the highest honor Australia awards for this type of shit. And a fruit store and whatever else they give heroes.

Wild.

Yeah it is. I think I heard a stat today about mass shootings (I think it’s just America) but that none have occurred with a fully automatic assault rifle if I’m saying it right. There have been shootings where a weapon has been converted but not one that was fully automatic to begin with, That semi-automatic is what is used along with handguns or other rifles. But none have been fully automatic but were converted, maybe I have this wrong but that’s what they were saying on MSNBC.

The point I wanted to make is simply this.  If someone wraps one arm around my neck from behind and I have a knife in my belt the knife will be in his kidney.  No doubt this guy is a hero, just glad it turned out well.

Might be tough in AUS to get something more suited to mass murder.

Oh yeah.

Just, in any circumstance, those are unusual guns.

It's very difficult to get your hands on just a single shot long rifle in Australia, much less anything beyond that.

Gun control works very, very well over there.

And the fact it is unusual that there were two shooters. After a mass shooting bc of the confusion and amount of shots and people not knowing where the shots came from etc…we always hear initial media reports that it is suspected that there is more than one shooter and it’s almost always turns out to be just a lone gunman. Tracing the guns etc…I am sure is a top priority that this isn’t something larger and part of a plan for other future events or connected to one.

We almost always hear two shooters and it turns out to be just a lone shooter. So this is definitely different because have two known shooters and we have proof that there were two in this terrible mass murder.
