Texas recruiting notes 2019

More from IT on linebacker:

Quote

- Butler (KS) CC ILB Juwan Mitchell is already on campus for an official visit. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Minnesota commit picked up his offer from the Longhorns last week, the second time UT has gone to Butler CC for a defender in the 2019 class (Jacoby Jones). And yes, Mitchell is a 2019 player with the ability to enroll in the first summer semester. He'll have four years to play three at the next level.

After Mitchell took an official visit to Fayetteville last weekend, UT decided to bring him in for a closer look. Given needs beyond just De'Gabriel Floyd's situation, it makes sense.

The feeling here is if UT wants him they'll get him. He says he's unsure if he'll take any more visits after this weekend.

We don't think Texas would take both Florida graduate transfer Kylan Johnson and Mitchell. Mitchell is likely on a job interview. Does UT want to invest multiple years with him as opposed to just one with Johnson? We shall see.

The article did say he wasn’t killing it in practice. Not saying he wouldn’t be a valuable transfer or anything though.

He should still be in high school and instead was playing with the 1s, so ...

The staff got handed a shit sandwich by the previous regime in terms of LB depth, then compounded the issue by making Adeoye the only true ILB take and not pushing for DaShaun White early enough, or taking another JUCO between Gary and Caleb Johnson. They did much, much better in 2019 (even factoring in the tragic situation with Floyd), but there's a giant experience gap. Given all this, throwing numbers at the problem is the best course of action at this point.

White has done not a fuckin thing at OU yet, for how many posters wanted him so badly around here.

Didn't we not really want him and instead prioritized and took some other jaggof?

Who knows what Strong was doing with recruiting.

Ronnie Perkins and Mark Jackson had good freshmen seasons, though Texas burned Jackson with the wheel route in Dallas. Things at LB would seem a lot better if Texas had gotten Murray, White, and Bonitto.

Roach on the JUCO LB

Spoiler

I spoke to a source near Mitchell. He was supposed to be in on Thursday, but his plane in Houston was delayed due to weather. I’m told that the visit is going well. Mitchell’s former teammate Jacoby Jones is hosting him on campus, and the source near Mitchell said the two are close. We will have more after the visit, but I’m feeling confident here.

There's worse things than having two Adeoyes instead of one.

Charlie still had visions of Baron Browning and Anthony Hines coming to Texas while getting beat by Kansas.  Murray was begging to come to Texas.

Whats the recruiting story here?

Georgia is the defending NCAA champs so it’s not like we lost him to Iowa State. Also, I have a feeling he goes pro in a year. Still a loss but not as bad as some think.

Is grad transfer LB from Florida probably a no go then??

Probably so, but why not bring the kid in. Texas has 5 open ships right now. The GT from Florida is depth if nothing else, and can probably play STs. Right now you have a team where 2 ILBs have played a down of football higher than high school.

A grad transfer wouldn’t go somewhere to be depth and ST’s.

That what he was at Florida. Sure he could go to some shitty school, or he could go to UT and get a good start towards his masters at a good academic school. Why would you degrade your undergrad degree from Florida, with a Masters at some shitty academic school. Plus, Texas is home and he has connections to the program.
