  3. We need an actual, productive NIL forum and threads associated to it. I don't mean the ongoing meandering here or the winding dialogue of nothingness on the football board thread. I mean something with some structure and rules around the topic's discussion. Links to what other schools are doing, probably not a fit. Posts planning out an organized (unaffiliated) way of crowdsourcing money to guys, whether through their Cameo or buying of merchandise, probably a fit. Etc. There could be multiple threads associated to the ongoing discussion. There are at least 4 problems that need to be solved for anyone to truly weaponize this stuff, and problably more: 1) information - what can people and businesses do, and what can't they? I saw a UT AD email linking to a FAQs page and it was helpful. as a for instance, given the guidance from the school, the state, and the NCAA, there is nothing for Surly to fear in terms of being involved with various campaigns. 2) leadership - this has to be important enough for someone to take it on and get things organized and structurally sound, out of passion. 3) networking - you need networks of businesses who will get it and be involved. the vast majority have no idea about any of this right now. 4) capital raising - there are different ways to get some traction, but if you guys wanted to go from powerless to making a difference, money talks. you could organize a mini-SPAC aimed at directing funds with purpose eventually towards UT athletes, but it's a blank check endeavor, so you'd need someone trustworthy fronting it and interested enough participants that they'd hand over $100s or $1000s and wait to see what happens. note: i'm not claiming "SPAC" is technically correct as a term here, but conceptually it would work like that. just a simple ongoing crowdfunding effort might help, but i'm dubious unless the plan is to extend the raise into social media and not just on the boards. I'm sure there are other hurdles, but those all seem real. I know Texas is organized around how to exploit NIL with the help of some of the best consultants and academics that stupid money will buy. Eventually, athletes will reap heavily from all of that being deployed. If you can't wait, though, then the wild west is there for the taking. I doubt this board could raise $10,000 to start anything, so the hurdles seem insurmountable. 200 people throwing $50 each into a pot gets you there. Short of a few of us throwing in $1000, I doubt it would happen. So, honestly, hold your breath and bide your time and some of these idiotic stories like the Miami gym guy will blow past. $10000 barely pays 85 guys $117 one time. Hey, it would be our small part, I guess.

  4. When I sit next to Intently-Working-On-A-Laptop Guy, I figure, now there's a feller who's stressed, he could use a little levity. So I ask him if he's seen some funny computer videos, like that boy who likes turtles, or maybe that squirrel that turns around all dramatic-like. If he doesn't answer, I just figure well hey, that there feller is stressed AND shy, the work has got him down. So let's help him finish the work? They say two heads are better than one, and everything gets better by the second draft, so I lean in kinda unobtrusive-like, and read (in a very low voice so I don't distract him) whatever he's workin on, and when I read something where he's gone all wrongly on grammar, well of course I step in with a "HEY," and I just point to the screen. I don't tell him what's wrong, I just go "HEY," and then he can have that Ah-Hah moment of seein it himself because it is his job to fix it after all. I just helped a little.

  5. I find it hilarious that football coaches all over the country are currently screaming at their staff about why they don’t have an NFT program while having no idea what it is. Some poor staffer is having to explain blockchain to Ed Orgeron.

  6. So, is this the part where the whole issue was about the individual athletes get a fair price for the value of their likenesses? Or is this the part where college football goes totally pro because winning is everything? The kind of paying that went on before was at least a little restrained beneath a veneer of idealism. The veneer is stripped away and the monster can rage uncontrolled. Much of this over-"correction" is due to the shallow minded debates had on radio and TV by sports pundits who like to believe they are hard-bitten, real world guys who know the truth when they see it. In fact, they're largely idiots who seize an issue at its simplest level and eschew anyone trying to recognize or discuss even the most obvious complication. The limited discussion by the moron chorus was limited to stuff like why shouldn't a Manziel or VY or Honey Badger be able to make money? They never ventured to how this would work for second string OTs or rotating running backs who really don't have any value in their names. Now all will be paid generously. The sports morons liked to play the South Park tape about student atho-letes to express their cyncism. Now they can find something similar for the absurdity that NIL will be limited to the real issues of NIL. Hey there, Mr. Three Star Recruit Who May Never Start, come to Big Bucks University where you will be amply rewarded for your extremely valuable "NIL Rights." Snicker snicker. I don't like where this looks to be going. I liked the idea that most of the players on the team chose UT for the same reasons I did and experienced their student life similarly to me. I abandoned pro football and other pro sports years ago because I cared less and less about the players. It could happen here, too. My stomach turns at the pageantry and vanity of commitment videos that look like life achievement awards. Turn 'em all into mercenaries, and the nasty world of college football just gets unbearably nasty. I'm more of an emotional fan than some of you. I'm optimistic with each new coach. Optimistic for the new coach's first few seasons. I'm not too critical of the players. It's just my way. It's not better than anyone else's. Some of you are scholars and connoisseurs who appreciate the game differently. Some of you are screaming, furious fans who seem to feed on your anger and vendettas. It's a game; enjoy it as you may. I'll miss the way I enjoy the game should it become as I've described above. I'll still check out the Aggie recruiting thread because it's the funniest no matter what. I'm hooked on this fucking site.

  10. Welp, my P- skeet barrel set showed up late last week from Italy. Right at about 10 months from the order to the delivery. Thus far the fit is perfect and all four barrels have busted a lot of clays in the few days I have had it. So much better than a tube set, IMO. All four barrels weigh the same and it's much easier to switch between gauges without having to hammer and clean and hammer and clean over and over. In my brief time of having it so far, I can tell it's a lot more "pointable" than any other gun I've owned. Without the tubes in the barrels, there is less weight in front and I can find wayward targets more easily. I anticipate this being the case with the other High-Tech that I bought now that I can remove some of the barrel weight and dedicate it solely to sporting clays. Going to do a .410-only shoot at the end of this month and then my first four (5) gun event with it will be in Dallas at the end of August.

  12. We get fake phishing emails all the time from our IT security and they’ve gotten very good at crafting them to look real. Used to be on the 3rd strike you’d have to take extra training. Now the first strike wipes out your next scheduled raise. 2nd time and you’re fired. A random attack is one of the major fears at our company and they’re no longer fucking around with dumb ass employees.

  15. I have an anxiety disorder. I seriously doubt these seat stealers had one. I would be more fucking anxious anticipating a confrontation over a seat that I had stolen as opposed to sitting in my own seat or quietly asking the gate attendant for a seat change prior to boarding. These were attention whores claiming they have a mental illness. They do nothing but fuck up the perception of anxiety for people like me. Fuck 'em.

  16. That is not true at all. They have been shown to be a hardworking bunch. It is infrastructure. It is negative recruiting that they can’t help…yet. A good year or two with Sark being sober is the key. They might have thought it wouldn’t be as hard to combat some issues but they are trying. This is the hardest working staff we have had. They are just dealing with Meg recruiting that says Sark is just the next in line in disappointments.

  17. update on Chloe she is very, very slowly gaining back weight. She lost 13 lbs in less than 6 months, and has gained back only 1.5 in 6 weeks. I've increased her food intake by more than a 1/3rd. The EPI is confirmed as I have to give her powdered enzym every feeding. The good news is she is still very active and wants to do carrides all the time... even when we go to the vet like this one We also continued to go to UT baseball games through the Super Regional. She and Sadie both attended whichever game had the 5 hour delayed start in the Regional, we got soaked...

  23. You guys are thinking about this all wrong, players don't want to do work outside of football to get money and most don't care about building their brand. Oregon just showed you can straight give a kid 100k for someone else drawing a picture of him. That's what NIL is, straight payment for playing football

  32. Several years ago on an AA flight from DFW to DCA. Work trip with colleagues and we had a window and aisle seat on the MD88 (configuration is 3 seats on one side, 2 seats on the other, we were in the 3 seat side). So, we're sitting there, shooting evil thoughts at oncoming pax hoping we keep an empty middle seat. Hot chick gets on, we're like yes, yes, yes, please. No luck, she sits one row forward and across the aisle. Up comes this fat fuck stops at our row, we are saying fuck my life but he sits directly across the aisle behind the hot chick. Finish boarding, keep our empty middle, sweet! Taxiing out and the fat dude takes out his Dallas Morning News and proceeds to hold it up in front of him to read, as he can't fit it between his gut and the hot chick's seat. Problem is every time he turns the page, he kind of snaps it and is hitting the hot chick in the back of the head. After 2 or 3 smacks, we could see her getting more and more irritated. Finally, on about the 10th smack, she turns around and says would you please quit hitting me in the head with your paper. He harumphs but adjusts somehow so the paper swatting is finished. We take off and fat boy gets up by grabbing the top of her headrest to pull himself up and pulls her hair, eliciting a pained ouch from her. He apologizes and then proceeds to open the overhead bin and rummage around in it while his big gut is rubbing on her shoulder and head. She looks disgusted and is grabbing the armrest and leaning as far away from him as she can get. About that time, a laptop bag comes tumbling out of the overhead and lands on her hand and she just loses it and screams, "YOU FAT MOTHERFUCKER, WHY ARE YOU PERSECUTING ME?" He yells back he hasn't done anything wrong and she can't call him fat. "YOU ARE FAT! AND, YOU HAVE BEEN MAKING THIS FLIGHT MISERABLE FOR ME!" My buddy and I are cracking up. Flight attendants show up, referee the argument, and end up moving the hot chick to first class. Fat dude is really pissed that he didn't get moved to the front of the plane. We're disappointed also.

Women have been brushing off assholes like that for safety since our teen years so I guess our radar for men like Donkey is better honed.
