  2. "You guys shouldn't worry about this extreme violation of citizens' rights because cops have been violating citizens' rights for decades" isn't the big brain argument you think it is.

  3. He a rarity, especially in the era of NIL. Content to wait his turn behind Bijan and Roschon and after we signed Baxter. Amazing young man. So thankful that we were able to hold onto him and that his loyalty and faith in the program payed off for him.

  6. This thread very much explains the creepiness in the Movies/TV forum whenever there's a show with an adult actress portraying a 14 year old.

  10. So he was good friends with one of the kids he grew up with who’s dad is a huge Aggie and semi big booster. (his other son is walking on this year with help from his dad) He went to a ton of Aggie games as a kid with them and was a big fan but Aggies never offered him. Evidently Dayton found him somehow and offered him as a junior I think.

  15. I can't quit Austin and I can't quit Conan's. It's amazing to me that the Anderson/Burnet location is almost identical to how it was when I was in high school decades ago.

  19. My answers? Disch Falk on a weeknight … Cactus Cafe for singer songwriter magnificence (used to be one of the only smoke free spots in town), and lake Travis at dusk… the legacy of what these three spots mean in my life will likely keep me here or at least close if we have to leave for a long long time.

  20. You're an extremely weird dude. "I'm a lib and I don't like Israel, but I'm all for cops assaulting and arresting peaceful protests" is a pretty rare take.

  21. I thought about not posting this here because of the recent epidemic of vagina sand about political content outside the cloak room. Since it’s on the table at this moment, however- inflation is first and foremost a monetary phenomenon. Should the president be directly consulted on monetary policy if otherwise be able to put their thumb on the scale? Because a certain candidate’s advisers are drafting proposals. I’m sure that’s fine and would definitely not return us to the free cocaine monetary era. WSJ

  22. Yeah, I'm down with this as long as its not rehashing the past which is what pisses me off. Funny we bring up Italy but its like my mom bitching about Rome of the 1960s versus the Rome of today. I have my own opinions of Rome of today but there's still plenty to love. I digress. You know what I love about today's Austin? Tacodeli's $10 margarita to go will get it done! (not my pic, not my wife)

  23. Old Austin will always find a reason to complain. Always. I'm going to focus on the good stuff about the Austin of today. Love that this was added to Pease Park. I think we'll swing by Eeyore's to check it out and to see "Weird" in all its glory.

  26. Upon my return to Austin after a 10 year hiatus in Chicago and prior to my re-departure, I loved this place: (Think it is still open)

  27. Not there anymore, but I loved the more that 2 decades I spent in Austin. I lived at the corner of 28th and Nueces. So.. the picks below all resonate a ton, as they were all stumbling distant.

  28. I have an idea! Why don't we leave both the preemptive thread-shitting and the reactionary thread-shitting to the doomsayer threads like ___ what the f is wrong with you and the great enshittification thread, and leave this one positive, as it was designed and intended? I'll go again-- I grew up going here as a kid in the 70s/80s, and my kids have grown up going here as well. And it really hasn't changed all that much, aside from 1/2 of it becoming an antique mall...

  29. I think you are overstating Ishido’s power and understating Mariko’s. Ishido is one of the five regents and essentially mayor of Kyoto, but he’s not able to force project much beyond it and has a fief smaller than the other four regents (also, remember these aren’t the only daimyos, just the five the taiko selected). He can’t really do much without working through the other, wealthier regents and that’s why he has to isolate them in order to exert control. He’s also dependent on Lady Ochiba, who controls the samurai pledged directly to the taiko’s heir. Mariko is more like Lynda Bird Johnson Robb and if she was best friends with Caroline Kennedy as a kid. She’s got her own money, married into a distinguished family, and her father retains respect in some quarters. She’s also super savvy at playing the game within their carefully constructed social behaviors.

  32. My ex-wife did English show jumping. Whenever I would go out to the stables with her, everyone was amazed at how calm the difficult horses were with me. "Well, they know I have no intention of riding them."
