Good news!  Your PPE just arrived from the national stockpile!

From AL.com -

"More than 5,000 medical masks that Montgomery County received from the national stockpile were rotted, the local emergency management director said Thursday."

Would Biden have really handled this much better than Trump? Joe barely knows what day it is half the time and I hate Trump with a passion.

An effective leader doesn’t have to be smart, just smart enough to figure out who is smart and listen to them.

Germany has reported more than 91,000 coronavirus infections and over 1,200 deaths. But thanks to widespread testing and other measures, its percentage of fatal cases — 1.3 percent — has been remarkably low.

By contrast, the rate is about 10 percent in Spain, France and Britain, 4 percent in China and 2.5 percent in the United States. Even South Korea, a model of flattening the curve, has a rate of 1.7 percent.

So why is Germany’s number so low? One reason, experts say, is that it has been administering around 350,000 coronavirus tests a week, far more than any other European country. That means it finds more infected people with few or no symptoms, which “lowers the death rate on paper,” said Hans-Georg Kräusslich, the head of virology at University Hospital in Heidelberg.

“Maybe our biggest strength in Germany,” said Professor Kräusslich, “is the rational decision-making at the highest level of government combined with the trust the government enjoys in the population.”

Wait, basically what this really says is that the German leadership isn’t really doing anything special to lower deaths, only that higher testing mathematically lowers the death percentage. By that logic, our leaders can look brilliant by doing way more testing and identifying people that have it and wouldn’t be dying anyway.

The global play during any outbreak of a new disease is in the very early stages all international travel should be banned. Give a window for people who are citizens of a country to return to that country but they are immediately placed under forced quarantine. The world's best in the field immediately go to work on figuring the new disease out and once it's contained open things back up.

Of course this will never happen. We'll keep punching ourselves in the dicks. This is the 3rd coronavirus to pop up out of nowhere in the last 17 years so you know there's more coming very soon.

Well also they have much better coordination on access to treatment and early treatment seems to be a factor in success.

America is the worst non third world shithole NK style place for something like this to run rampant. We're in a gun fight carrying a broken Nerf gun.

I was talking about this with a co-worker. If I told the plumber, electrician, doctor, lawyer, or any other professional how much more I knew than them about their job they'd dump me.

That's Dunning-Krueger in the WH. Biden knows that he needs help from experts. Trump absolutely refuses to listen to anyone. He won't read. He dismisses facts that don't agree with his opinions. He's about as ill-suited for this job as a man can be.

And Hillbitch was slighted for being 'over-prepared'.

There's a post on that gofundme link that says that dead Karen's husband and two sons are trying now to get tested, but there are no test available for them.

They live in a Republican run county in a Republican run state in a Republican run country, and I guarantee you without a doubt, that they and everyone who gave that post on facebook a thumbs up, will blame their failure to test on Democrats.

. . . and the government (well, a capable government) would need to oversee that return process by ensuring airlines honor future tickets and helping with timing, so airports don't get overrun and people aren't having to pay $20K for a one-way flight between Heathrow and JFK.

Here is her update:

I have a real problem with the text changes. It is very grim when a regime does this regardless of party. The government exists to serve the people and this reflects a government that thinks not only otherwise but that the government is never wrong. Nothing new for the past three years, but this trend is going to take some serious correcting. I fear it will continue regardless of which party is in charge if this habit becomes institutionalized. It takes a Walter Shaub airtight code of ethics to keep people from looking the other way.

It's straight Ministry of Truth shit. Malreported. Double plus ungood.

Moving forward we have to be willing to restrict travel much earlier.

All it really takes is an airborne form of something like ebola, maybe with a little kicker of COVID like pre-symptomatic tranmissability, and we're done for as a species.

So, putting 2 + 2 together  . .

1.  Massachusetts gets no help from the Feds, and the Feds have THEIR stockpile.

2.  Massachusetts gets outbid OR has their PPEs seized by the Feds for THEIR stockpile.

3.  Red Staters party on the beach at Spring Break and the plague is coming.

4. ??????

5.  Profit (win election by giving all hoarded or seized PPE and ventilators to people in red states)

Perhaps that's it. But, because they won't listen to bad news, by the time you're on a vent your odds of making it are umm not good. That's if you can get a bed in ICU and if you got there in time.

Isn't Michigan a swing state btw?

Aggies.  The entire board of texags is exactly like that.  That's is sincerely how they think, and it's scary that so many are still like that.  They have a thread on there now talking about storming the state capitol to get the governor to open the state up.

In Trump's mind:  looking like he's doing something >>>>> doing something.

I pointed out the Michigan thing back when he was complaining about Witmer.  I also guessed a while back that he knows he's a one term president so maybe he's brokering the ventilators.  Why else would Kushner be involved?

Consensus data is lacking, but it looks like access to ventilators prolongs time to death more so than promoting survival and recovery.

Lancet (3/5) : Respiratory support for patients with COVID-19 infection

Quote

As of Feb 27, 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected 47 countries and territories around the world.

Xiaobo Yang and colleagues described 52 of 710 patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) in Wuhan, China. 29 (56%) of 52 patients were given non-invasive ventilation at ICU admission, of whom 22 (76%) required further orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation. The ICU mortality rate among those who required non-invasive ventilation was 23 (79%) of 29 and among those who required invasive mechanical ventilation was 19 (86%) of 22.

non-peer reviewed aggregate of available info: Mortality rate of COVID-19 patients on ventilators

So any hoarding/biased allocation of ventilators is arguably fools gold.  The real service to be offered is fact based leadership and effective national communication in order to contain this virus.  Absent that, NO amount of medical or ventilator support will be sufficient be meet the overwhelming demand.

Fauci will be recommending shut downs until the virus is completely or nearly eradicated. Dems and the media will be howling his tune every step of the way

If and when that time comes and Trump decides enough is enough and it's time to loosen restrictions, and Fauci is still insisting on keeping everything shut down, how does Trump move forward?

How does he get out of the corner he's allowed himself to get boxed into?

So trying to lead in a time of crisis with a lot of people in you ear is getting yourself "boxed in"?

What was he supposed to do?

If he had not shut anything down, people would be saying he'd boxed himself in with that position...and allowing a pandemic to run wild.

The dems and media were going to demonize him and use this crisis against him no matter what course of action he took. It's disgusting.

This.  Everything about Trump is a facade.  EVERYTHING.  He is a phony, skin-deep illusion of a human being.  The very definition of an empty suit.  To Trump, words speak louder than action.  If you say you’ve done something, there’s no need to actually do it. The goal is for people to think you did it, which you can accomplish much more easily and effortlessly by just lying to them.  That’s especially true if a critical mass of rubes stands by at the ready to believe every lie you utter.  Which is of course America 2020.  Or enough of it, anyway.

We’re governed by a cult.  Trump is Jim Jones, but without even the veneer of empathy.

I was texting with a nurse friend the other day.  She said that at her hospital, the ventilator is a death sentence.  No one comes off the vent alive.

So either ventilators are insufficient to save critical COVID patients or my friend works at the world’s shittiest hospital.
