I’m pretty set on ordering a Miami blue Targa 4S or Targa GTS, but I planned on waiting a couple more years to do so. It would be my first. But if it really takes two years to get, I’m thinking maybe I should just get the order in now. Plus, that new Porsche dealership calls my name every time I drive past.

Nah it’s closer to 6 months for a 4s in reality once you get an allocation maybe a bit less. The GTS won’t be until start of 22 though. Also assume a GTS in this market will have some sort of ADM. Not gt3 level but maybe 10k if I had to guess

Now I'm looking at Chalk with the black aero kit. This shit is gonna change 100 times in the next month. Fuck, if I keep going I'm getting into Turbo territory. Might need to pare some options back.

See my rant somewhere earlier in this thread about the centerlocks, but I'll repeat it. Fuck the marketing genius at Porsche who (correctly) thought street buyers would love to jizz all over themselves having centerlocks on the street. The minute you have to do a wheel change (or any work requiring wheel come off, like brakes or suspensions) yourself you understand why, when you realize you don't own a wrench large enough to do it and neither does your corner tire shop.

Big fan of chalk.

I think your build, being that track focused with buckets, rear delete, aero, carbon fiber etc, probably needs ceramic brakes as well IMO.     It is beautiful.

Completely agree. between having to lug around a monstrous torque wrench, the grease, the spreader bar if you don't have someone around, getting the locks to lock, blah, blah...they are a pain in the ass.

While the bite on PCCB's are great, they are generally not great if its a frequent track car.  A lot of people that bought a car with PCCB's pull them off and put on steels and then put the PCCB's back on when they sell the car.  Or, the run the PCCB's and then they wear out, they replace the rotors with steels.  The pads are expensive, you have to replace them frequently and the rotors are insanely expensive.

I dont disagree, i don't particularly like them.   I just think for resale in the future, a high spec car "needs" them.      I just have a lowly 2018 T that i bought certified last year, it doesn't have PCCBs.

I don't want to be a party pooper, and I like the chalk as much as the next guy, but I have a hunch that in a few years, it's going to feel very much "of this era" - kind of how murdered out cars feel dated today. Especially if the trend trickles all the way down to Kias and Jeep Liberties and whatnot.

Just food for thought...

Wife is looking at 3rd row SUVs. Am I crazy to nix the 3 Kias, based on reliability concerns? They've got rave reviews, but I just have this feeling that it will be the Pilot, Highlander, and maybe Ascent that are still chugging along years later.

I would look at the Kias. Quality for the Korean brands has gone way up in the past 10 years - like old school Honda reliability.

We liked the Kia Telluride when we were looking. We ended up going back to Audi when it was all said and done.

True.  But enjoy being among the first…unless you plan on keeping it for over 10 years it’s far from a deal breaker.  That’s a sexy MF.

the 993 has enjoyed a decade of renaissance so the love-fest is not new, but i just saw a white-on-blue widebody at a grocery store and damn is that motherfucker soooooo good looking, better than 99.5% of new cars, and the size is so amazingly small next to todays-era family sedans.

Got an update on my Bronco order. I ordered the first day orders went live so I’m well within the production capacity for ‘21 but it sounds like I’ll be lucky to get one in ‘23, if ever.

—-

Hello,

We're happy to report that Broncos are officially rolling off the production line.
Here. We. Go.

But the ongoing challenges with our hardtop roof supplier continue to impact our plans. We now have to produce more soft tops than planned and we won't be able to solely produce customer orders, as hoped. This also means a longer wait for those who ordered a molded in color hardtop.

Additionally, for the 2022 model, hardtop roof timing has taken another hit: our black, contrasting white, body color painted modular, and dual top roofs will now arrive in the 2023 model year. Until then, we can offer the carbonized gray molded in color hardtop as the only hardtop option for 2 and 4-door Broncos.

Like you, we're frustrated by these delays.
So, here's what we're going to do:

Price Protection Extension thru 2023 model year - We'll continue to offer price protection to all Bronco order and reservation holders (as of March 19, 2021) to ensure you will not see an increase in MSRP if you receive an equivalent 2023 model year Bronco.

Free Hardtop Prep Kit - Today we're announcing that all 4-door soft tops, beginning with September production, will include a hardtop prep kit at no additional cost. The prep kit enables you to order a soft top now and purchase a hardtop later. We anticipate that hardtop roofs will be available for purchase in the 2023 calendar year. If you're interested contact your dealer before July 16, 2021.

If you have questions about product updates or offers please reach out to your Ford Dealer directly or our Bronco Support Team at 800-334-4375. They're ready to help.

Rest assured that no matter what you decide, we're working around the clock to get you and your Bronco out into the wild.

Sincerely,
The Entire Bronco Team

Mucho respect if you have that amount of patience. And I wouldn't blame you if you jumped ship.  I'm thinking Ford is doing more for Jeep marketing than Jeep themselves. People (not meaning you) are overall compulsive in this country. They made up their minds they want an offroad vehicle when the Bronco was announced/revealed and they will go looking for a different one when they can't get their first choice especially if the wait gets extended.

My first car was a ‘87 Bronco and I was planning on my last gas car being the new Bronco. I’m doing the Bronco Off Rodeo event next weekend to test drive them for two days. It better blow me away otherwise I’m just going to get a 4Runner.

I'll be interested to see what happens with the Maverick, F150 Lightning, and non-baby Bronco. Seems like there's a lot of demand for them and, seeing what the other poster posted above about chip shortages, I don't see it resolving itself anytime soon.

In any case, bummed to say I sold my car that I was a fanatic about. Prices are just too damn high right now to hold onto a fun car. A few pics from my for-sale listing behind the spoiler alert so I don't jam up the thread too much.

GREAT car, but too nice to make it a total track rat car out of it, and I didn't like tracking my DD on top of it. I'm thinking of just DDing my truck and then making my next track car a dedicated track care like a Miata that I can respectfully rag on while maintaining it well, and then once I'm not paying for daycare for two kids, I'll get something like an Ariel Atom.

I haven't seen the discussion move this way in this thread -- it could be because no one is interested -- but have you guys ridden in (or driven) an Atom or a Caterham or something like that? I did a ridealong in an Atom and, after that, my ATS-V felt like the biggest, fattest pig in the entire world.

Your pictures didn't show up, but if I stumbled into Fuck You money, I'd build myself a Caterham as soon as I got bored enough to need a project to occupy my time.

I don't understand why they aren't more popular than I perceive them to be, but then again, I am not hanging out at the track...

Caterham is my long term itch-scratch.  Had many opportunities to rent them on trips but things never aligned.  I think a lot about driving on the streets with a SV... but literally no extra space in garage and if i were gonna get a 2nd car it'd be a miata for some actual real life practicality

GTS was revealed yesterday and configurator is up today. Looking at early 2022 delivery but hell with it I’ve waited this long, what’s 6 more months? I’m a sucker for the center locks plus it has the options I had on the c2s anyway plus 30 more horses. I am considering adding the aero kit but not sure if that’s too wannabe gt3

Yes to aero, but  would go duck tail if it's still available.

And cross-link for semi-new purchase and Porsche mention.  My 911 is also grey with grey wheels.  Working on pics of both together.

I saw a VW Arteon for the first time yesterday.  It's a "gran coupe" with a hatch trunk.  Nice looking car.

But:

  • its a VW
  • FWD/AWD
  • Spicy 2.0T, but uninspiring performance and driving dynamics (strangely, the engine makes more HP than torque, not sure how they pulled that off)
  • It's not cheap

Arteon Shooting Brake adds glamour to VW's lineup | Parkers

renault has similar in the Talisman but very few people buy these upmarket-family-saloon thing, because it encroaches in entry-level luxury sedans and SUVs

Yes. I don’t know if Ford or a partner bought this ranch, but they have converted it into a Bronco off-road school. 300 acres and tons of trails and really, really nice facilities. From appearances, it looks like it’s gonna be permanent.

From what I heard, it's the same family that owns HSB that did that and it's staying.  Looking forward to seeing it.

Ford actually has plans to set up 3 of those Bronco Off-Road experiences around the country. It's a great marketing move by them, esp with all the different configurations that are available, to allow people to test and figure out which variant and options they really want. I think it winds up being good ROI as people experience increased capability or convenience and option up their cars.

Also likely the first and last time many of them will drive off pavement.

There’s 4 of them. You have to have already ordered a Bronco to attend.

I will say having the tire cameras with the projected tire path lines makes everything so easy when your hood is pointed at the sky. Drove a base model for a bit and I changed to a Badlands immediately. I couldn’t deal with not having the camera system once I had it the first time. It’s a must have option IMO.

Picked my first brand new vehicle in about 16 years on Memorial Day.  Audi.  What are the state of the art owner applied paint protections these days?  I did a clear bra and used the Zaino products back in the day.  The clear bra was an absolute pain in the ass to remove after several years of daily driving.  So what’s best now?  Ceramic?

Had no idea about the gearing in the 911 manual vs PDK.

*no idea if he is full of it.

No it's true.

The range of gearings is essentially zero to 1 or 1.x for an overdrive.  If you have 8 or 10 gears, you can make the lowest couple of gears lower than the lower of the 6 gears that are the practical upper limit of gears in a manual.  You could do it with a manual, too, but it would kill the mileage or you'd have some bizarre gaps between say 3 and 4.

Even in semi-peformance cars without DCT, the 8 or 10 spd auto will usually be quicker to 60 than a 6MT.

Clear bra for rock chips. I've used Xpel and 3M. Xpel seems better so far and it has a 10 year warranty.

Ceramic for paint protection. No idea on brands because I've never had it done. I did the DIY OptiCoat back in the day and it was awesome. Apparently the stuff the pros use is even better. Be ready to spend a few grand for a quality job.

Ceramic all the way. Have it done by a pro. The CarPro DIY stuff is pretty good, but doesn't last nearly as long

Apparently I need to look at the tread on my tires more often. Took my wheels off yesterday to bleed my brakes and found this on the rears. Edges still looked okay which is why I didn't really notice. Fronts are also fine. I guess I've been over inflating, alignment is off, or both. They did have almost 35K on them so they were about due anyway, but wasn't expecting that this weekend.6db96d6b4b17ec2167243e49b29e5511.jpg9e7d14417c9dc7dd144af314ec11fab6.jpg
