Gabe Brooks on him when he committed to ISU

Recruiting: Wright announced his commitment late Thursday afternoon to Iowa State, which had gotten two recent 247Sports Crystal Ball forecasts for the Central Texas signal caller. Wright originally earned an offer from Iowa State last June, when he camped with the Cyclones. He took an unofficial visit in mid-November to see Iowa State beat Texas 23-21. In addition to Iowa State, Wright has reported offers from North Texas, Texas State, and UTSA.

Rankings: 247Sports rates Wright as a strong three-star recruit who is ranked No. 29 nationally among 2021 pro-style quarterback prospects, as well as No. 120 overall regardless of position in the state of Texas for his class. Wright is the fourth commitment for the 2021 cycle for the Cyclones, who are ranked No. 45 nationally and No. 7 in the Big 12 Conference, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Stats: As a junior in 2019, Wright threw for 2,510 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions as he completed 55.5 percent of his pass attempts. He also ran for 113 yards and one TD. Wright's breakout sophomore season in 2018 saw him throw for 2,862 yards, 26 TD's, and eight INT's on a 61.3 completion percentage, while rushing for 177 yards and one score. Wright's first action came in his 2017 freshman season, when he completed 27 of 36 attempts for 408 yards, four TD's, and no INT's.

Evaluation notes: The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Wright is one of the numerous Power Five-caliber quarterbacks in the Lone Star State's absolutely loaded 2021 QB class. Wright has posted strong production against Texas Class 6A competition while not playing for a traditional power.

Wright's natural playmaking ability shows on his tape, where he displays some off-schedule knack that should encourage Iowa State fans moving forward. He's not a chunk-play runner, but he's mobile enough to break the pocket and find receivers downfield on the run. He varies his arm angle in those situations when needed.

One of Wright's better traits is his touch and accuracy on deeper throws outside the numbers. He knows how to drop it in the bucket, so to speak, and that extends to his red-zone throws to the end zone. He does a good job in those scenarios of fitting balls into windows while also giving his receiver the only real shot at it.

While Wright shows a generally consistent release, he can tighten and quicken it a bit. He shows adequate velocity in the short-to-intermediate passing game, but improved consistency with his footwork and leg drive will help him maximize his throw power as he occasionally throws with his upper body alone.

Overall, Wright is a good pickup for Iowa State. His offer list is likely stunted because of the especially high number of quarterbacks in the state of Texas in this 2021 cycle. Quarterbacks such as Wright probably do not have quite as many offers at this point as they would in less-loaded cycles, but make no mistake, he's definitely an FBS-caliber QB with a Power Five ceiling and a good get for the Cyclones early in the 2021 class.

Longhorns land commitment from Texas legacy Charles Wright

By.  MIKE ROACH       14 minutes ago

The Texas Longhorns have been looking for a replacement for Jalen Milroe.

Mike Yurcich and Tom Herman appear to have found it in Charles Wright. The Austin High School passer is a Texas legacy, but his recruitment took the long and winding road to his dream school. Wright originally committed to Iowa State during the spring, and he was locked in with the Cyclones. Texas was the only offer that could pull him away.

A three-star prospect, Wright saw action in four varsity games as a freshman and earned first-team all-district Texas 25-6A honors as a junior. In a three-year career, Wright accumulated 5,780 yards passing, 57 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He also added 290 yards on the ground and 8 touchdowns.

247Sports’ Midlands Region Recruiting Analyst Gabe Brooks compares Wright to former UNT quarterback Mason Fine and describes his game in the following way.

‚ÄúAdequate size for the QB position, especially in today's game. Good production against Texas 6A competition. Flashes impressive accuracy and touch on deep throws outside the numbers, as well as red-zone throws to the end zone. Shows a knack for making off-schedule plays. Varies arm angle pretty well when needed. Not a home run hitter as a runner, but athletic enough to extend plays and hit the occasional designed run. Fairly smooth, consistent release. Can tighten delivery and quicken release a bit. Often throws with upper body alone and can more consistently uses his legs to help velocity and throw power. Projects to the Power Five level in a very deep 2021 QB class in Texas.‚ÄĚ

Wright also held offers from Arkansas, ULL, North Carolina State, North Texas, UTSA and Texas State.

At 6-foot-1, 194 pounds, Wright is ranked as the No. 39 pro-style quarterback in the nation and No. 166 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite.

Wright joins five-star Denton Ryan athlete Ja'Tavion Sanders, four-star Denton Ryan athlete Billy Bowman, ffour-star Katy Taylor offensive lineman Hayden Conner, four-star Port Arthur Memorial DE Jordon Thomas, four-star New Caney linebacker Derrick Harris Jr., three-star Arlington Martin linebacker Morice Blackwell, four-star Pasadena (Calif.) John Muir cornerback Jamier Johnson, four-star Dallas Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem, three-star Hallettsville running back Jonathon Brooks, Pro Kick Australia punter Isaac Pearson, four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey, three-star New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton wide receiver Casey Cain, three-star Jacksonville (Fla.) Bishop Kenny center Michael Myslinski, three-star Englewood (Co.) Cherry Creek tight end Gunnar Helm and three-star Everman athlete Juan Davis as current commits in the Longhorns' 2021 recruiting class.

Looks like it was done by 247 - the same talents that brought you the Starkel commit video.

Apparently it was by Nick Harris

Lord in heaven, he seems like a nice guy and he's working hard, but he really needs an art student to sit down with him and give him the one hour "basics in making things not look shitty" class. The actual Photoshop job with the face and the jersey isn't awful, but it's everything around it that needs help.

Guessing this all happened pretty quickly.

I wish the young man the best.  I hope he spends four to five rewarding years on campus slaying top-shelf pussy because he's a quarterback for the University of Texas, and I also hope it is never necessary for him to enter a competitive game.

Austin High?  Any relation to Charles Alan Wright?  Kind of resembles him.

I smoked pot at Austin High with a guy name Charlie Wright. It was Charlie Wright and Joe Jamail and we were blazing that shit up every day.

My understanding is that he's CAW's grandson.

Looks like a less regarded Case McCoy. Good for him, but hope we never have the need to see him take the field.

I was thinking a poor man’s Boosh, but I could see him being a solid college QB and a hell of a backup if that’s all he ever is.

I know this kid, he attended my school several years ago, and his middle school team was loaded with talent, and I was involved with the squad when he was there. KJ Adams was actually a teammate of his, along with several other guys who've gone in to become basketball prospects. Charles is a good kid, a hard worker, and he has a lot of belief in himself. That middle school team featured plenty of future d-1 talent, and Charles fit right in with all of them. I'm very excited to hear if this commitment. Hook Em Charles!

I believe you're confusing Charlie Wright with Haynes King.

Kind of what everybody thought about Colt, too, when he was the prospective backup to Perriloux.

You never know how things will end up. Predicting the depth chart based on recruiting is generally futile with rare exceptions.

Whoever wins out, that's my guy.

Pretty obvious what our new OC is after at the position.

Same thing the old one was, I guess. Beck was recruiting him at NC State. Funny world.

At this point, do we even want to recruit QBs without childhood Texas jersey photos?
