Could you imagine what would've happened if Trump had won? America would have been burned to ash and the media would have called it a "peaceful protest". What happened in DC is child's play compared to what Cancel Culture PC Fascists are capable of.

If only there was actually a country that we could look at as an example of what happens when a fascist is elected because he convinced gullible members of his cult of personality that socialists were taking over the country.  If Trump wanted to turn the GOP into a cult of personality why couldn't it have been one more like the one in Jonestown?

Actually we don't have to imagine what would happen if he won BECAUSE IT ALREADY HAPPENED ONCE.

You didn't see any of us Hillary Clinton supporters trying to murder duly elected officials in the federal government.

perhaps my favorite recent part of the simulation has been GOP leaders posting pictures and videos of the violence engulfing the country under trump's watch and screaming 'SEE! THIS IS BIDEN'S AMERICA!'

uh, sir....meh, fuck it.

I think what a lot of people are missing is, meaning those folks who are flabbergasted and so (rightfully) upset and bemused, is that the faction doing this doesn't believe they are being treasonous. They believe they are patriotic and supporting/keeping Democracy alive against treasonous/seditious insurgents. It's that simple and it's no different than a schizophrenic believing they are saving their baby, instead of causing harm, by submerging in the bathtub in an act of mercy.

Everyone involved in this and supporting this sees this as exactly the same as "Good Trouble" in the same vein as those who coined the phrase, in their opposite persuasions.

I believe this is the result of the true great cause of our problems-- a lack of a shared belief/value system, as a whole, due to the explosion of population across a wide geography coupled with lightning speed internet that has shattered a more-or-less-shared political ethic into a million little pieces (h/t to Frey). There is no superglueing what divides us because what divides us is both ephemeral and eternal; it's immediate animal reaction and it's a timeless brokenness innate to the human condition.

Pontius Pilate sang it best: "What are truths? We both have truths-- are yours the same as mine?"

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is America, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

I'm as anti-monopoly as the next guy, but I'm not sure what the Sherman anti-trust act has to do with the attack on the Capitol. Unless you're saying that the government should force private companies to allow traitors to use their private property to foment another attack? Is that it?

So it does have something to do with the storming of the Capital Building. Unless you don't mean traitors at all.

IMO, removal from the play store is not a big deal on android. You can easily side load APK's and there are a variety of other app distributors/storefronts you can use as well. But I'm also pretty sure talk of parler and self-victimization over the lack of safe space for hate and violence-inciting speech is better suited to another board.

Parler pretty clearly committed black-letter violations of the terms of service for the iOS app store, google play store, and amazon web services. Don't want to lose access to their distribution platform? Don't incite violence. Pretty straight forward I'd think.

They are going to fuck around and find out.  David Koresh's ashes out front should have told you.

At this point, the best outcome would be for these dipshits to mount a real, large scale attack....and get fucking from slaughtered.

They’re going to attack - that’s just the best way for it to go for the rest of us. Utterly defeat and demoralize them.

Yep, something aggressive enough and armed enough that there's no equivocation on protest, riot, or insurrection and a giant dooky stomping.

No dicking around and jumping the gun or accidentally setting shit on fire by ATF dufuses.

It needs to be clearly seditious insurrectionists versus the government and a decisive win with lots of prisoners.

Care to elaborate on that neg, Hayduke?

Even if there was not a conspiracy -- for the record, Larry Wilkerson, Jay's guest on that show, thinks it was more likely sheer incompetence -- January 6 certainly accomplished a lot of what McConnell wanted to get done. So it could be a case of constructing a conspiracy backward from the results.

I don't disagree with what you're speculating, but that sort of discussion and speculation should be in the CR.

I do think it deserves discussion on how we still have not had a briefing from the FBI, Capitol PD, DHS, or the white house.

We were getting by the minute updates on prior civil unrest, I wonder what the difference could be....

Yeah @immamac, please move post 574 to CR. I thought I was on that thread when I put this one here.

we don't have a functioning government. as in, there isn't anyone doing anything at this point to lead the various departments of our government through what is the most trying events we've faced since the civil war.

but @ChickenSandwich is mostly concerned with tech companies abiding by their terms of service.

They can harass Congressman all they want, it won't change anything.  It just gets them their 15 minutes of internet fame among their idiot confederates.

What is about to make a number of Congressman change real fucking quick is the list of corporate/enterprise/even PAC donors who refuse to donate any more money to them for participation in this Capitol Breach continues to grow even this morning.  I am guessing by the end of the month, it will take the form of the opposite of the infamous "Giving Pledge" signed by billionaires.  Only, this will work in reverse...'The Rescind Pledge' (working title)...the following 100+ House Members and 6 Senators won't get a fucking dime from these companies and these wealthy donors.  Obviously some rich moron or company looking to get a niche market will pledge to then make up that shortfall themselves.  But what's the old saying about a fool and his money?

I don't know what it says about us as a nation led by these people, but what an interesting conundrum---take a stand against this coup and prevent future acts in a bi-partisan fashion, and you can have back your reputation and this pile of cash.  Or double down on your seditious principles and we'll pay to primary you out next cycle, not by the usual person from an extreme, but rather coming from your center.

The next season of our reality show is looking like a real think piece.  Should be interesting.  I think there'll still be lots of explosions and helicopters though.

From the “article” you cited:

“What does that mean? Well, it probably means a period of slavery. I mean, abject slavery for the average worker replaced by a period of we don’t need you anymore, so let’s conjure up a coronavirus or something, to get rid of you and let’s replace you with technology.”

Ok.

Of course, it all seems to fit right in with the 9/11 truther stuff also referenced by that organization.

Well, Larry Wilkerson, the guy who said that, is only a decorated war hero and Colin Powell's former chief of staff, so what does he know about shit? Certainly less than the average Surly poster.

Ok.

But the part about a coordinated effort to let this happen?

Wilkerson specifically pushes back against that assertion.

We're going to see more violence and the man inciting the violence can't see that he's inciting violence. President of the US, just now:

Quote

Reporter: What is your role in what happened at the capitol? What is your personal responsibility?

Trump: If you read my speech, and many people have done it and I've seen it in the papers and in the media, on television, uh, it's been analyzed and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate and if you look at what other people have said, politicians at a high level about the riots over the summer in Portland and Seattle and various other places, that was a real problem what they said. But they've analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph my final sentence and everybody to the tee thought it was appropriate.

So are we going to do a thread for each state's assault on its capitol or just do a megathread? This shit isn't going to slow down at all.

Who are you gonna believe, the FBI or my cousin  in Hays County who says all the chatter online indicated these were BLM protestors with their faces painted or covered that stormed the Capitol.

Already had a lobbying meeting at our Texas Capitol for next Wednesday cancelled (we scheduled it weeks ago without even looking at our calendars, just knowing it was a week into session).  Democrat house member's office indicated they would not be taking meetings in the building (he's one of the few that's been going in during Covid-19 along with a skeleton staff) or even around the building.  He has ordered his staff to work from home, stay safe, and check in regularly.  He's a very tenured member and is suggesting his Democrat colleagues all do the same.  I assume they've gotten some intel from DPS or Rangers that we're planning on having an idiot contest on Jan. 20th at the Texas Capitol.  First prize is anybody's guess?

Even with covid restrictions in place, they've kept the writer's room together and churning out some really doozies of a plot twist.

I love how the media is broadcasting this FBI tip to make sure all the nut jobs out there hear it. Fucking morons.

Just now, Hate said:

Maybe it will dissuade them from actually doing it.

Yeah, this sounds like a deterrent of sorts - a lot of internet badasses will get cold feet if they think the feds are waiting for them.

But here in Texas, I have no doubt that they will get stirred up and show up.
