Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Recommended Posts

Something something Gerry's M.O. something something - Detailed recruiting note last night and a full article this AM on Thompson

The Texas Longhorns hosted one of the nations most explosive playmakers over the weekend.

The No. 24 ranked overall and 4-star receiver Brenen Thompson (Spearman, Texas) made his final official visit of the recruiting process.

After June officials to Oklahoma State, Oregon and Texas A&M, it was Texas’ turn to impress.

“It was a great time,” Thompson told On3. “The game day atmosphere was crazy. It was better than I expected it to be,”

The message from the Texas staff to the 5-foot-10, 165-pound jet was all about the need for speed.

“They told me they need my speed. Just speed. They are missing a lot of speed. You see Xavier Worthy and the impact he’s making because of his speed. The coaching staff is telling me it will kind of be the same thing. Playing everywhere. Playing fast, and playing in space,”

Thompson is one of the two two-sport prospects in the country. The 3A 200 meter title winner at 21.27, and medalist at 10.38 in the 100 meters spent time with the track and field staff Saturday.

“Coach Sarkisian said they welcomed me doing both in college. The track and field staff said the same,”

One of the highlights of Thompson’s visit was spending time with former Texas star receiver Jordan Shipley. The two share a love for fishing, and Thompson had a key question to ask.

“I asked how he got away from the big city when he was at Texas. That was a big question. Being a small town guy. Finding that balance. He told me he was always able to get away, and all those things aren’t far away from Austin,”

Up next for the Panhandle blur will be an unofficial visit to Texas A&M for the showdown against Alabama October 9. Following that visit, Thompson will begin planning a decision date.

“It’s pretty difficult. Between the three, its close. The main thing is going to a great program with a great coaching staff. Being happy off the field. Where I will be happy. Where my family will be happy,”

Like the majority of top prospects with more than 30 offers, learning to say no has been the toughest part of the process.

“There is good and bad to a lot of things. You learn to say no. Figure out what you really want do. Getting down to the morals. It’s been stressful and hard, but I’m very blessed to be in this position.”

Thompson is looking into studying sports medicine in college.

The Texas Longhorns currently have a top 5 ranked class that includes 12 members of the On300. The lone wide receiver on the commit list is 4-star Armani Winfield (Lewisville High). Along with Thompson, 5-star Evan Stewart(Frisco Liberty) and Shazz Preston (Saint James, La.) are top targets at receiver.

The Stampede: Visit intel, Texas' standing with priority targets
MIKE ROACH

The Longhorns head into conference play at 2-1 and are coming off a big win against Rice.

Texas hosted several visitors over the weekend including a big official visit for a priority target. The staff is working to showcase the full experience of a Texas game in order to reel in the best talent.

The Horns247 staff hit the road once again last week to see several targets in person and gather intel on where things stand with several important recruits on the Texas board. What is the outlook of the Texas class and where can it go from here?

In this week's edition of The Stampede, Horns247's weekly gathering of recruiting intel, we recap the big visit weekend in Austin, drop some notes from the road, and provide some sourced material 2022 targets Texas is looking to make moves with down the stretch.

BRENEN THOMPSON OV RECAP
Texas hosted a few priority prospects over the weekend.

The Longhorns had two official visitors on campus with four-star Spearman wide receiver Brenen Thompson joining Texas long snapper commit Lance St. Louis on the trip. Thompson was the main event of the weekend as Texas tries to close in on the panhandle speedster.

Hosting him as the main uncommitted official visitor allowed the staff to focus a lot of attention on him during the weekend. Thompson was hosted by several players as a source told me they were able to throw all sorts of different resources on him since he was the main event.

It didn’t hurt that Thompson saw Xavier Worthy put in different positions to utilize his speed and talent. Thompson and Worthy are roughly the same size with the same exceptional speed tool, and Sarkisian showcased how a player like Thompson could be featured within this offense.

Thompson has one visit left as he looks to see College Station when Texas A&M takes on Alabama soon. In talking to sources in Austin, there’s still quite a bit of confidence. One source I spoke with feels that everything between Thompson and the staff gets better every time they get he and his mother to campus.

Thompson is expected to make a decision relatively soon, and I haven’t heard anything as of yet that would change my Crystal Ball pick. Oklahoma State remains a dangerous foe and the Texas A&M visit still looms somewhat large.

Nick will have more from Thompson’s side after he speaks to sources on that end of the recruitment. Thompson and his mother had to fly from Austin to Amarillo via a layover in Dallas. Their flight to Amarillo left after 10 PM and they still had a drive after that. We will try to gather more this week, but we respect the fact they were exhausted just trying to get home.

CAN TEXAS MAKE UP GROUND WITH HAROLD PERKINS?
Texas also hosted five-star Cy-Park linebacker/nickel prospect Harold Perkins over the weekend. The recruitment of Perkins has been one filled with ups and downs. Texas seemed to be building a little bit of momentum over the summer, but Texas A&M surged back in July and August.

Texas was able to get Perkins back on campus Saturday and I was told that they felt good about the way the trip went. Perkins played a game on Saturday morning and then made the trip to Austin which showed the staff that his interest is real.

Texas A&M would still be the favorite if I were handicapping this race, but the Longhorns remain engaged trying to chip away at anything they can. The race for Perkins will likely go the distance, and Texas is looking to remain in it long enough to capitalize at the end.

We are working on getting more with Perkins this week, but it was important for Texas to get him back on campus this weekend.

Of note, five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell was discussing coming in but didn’t end up making the trip. Despite reports, that was always tentative on the scheduling. Campbell will still make a fall official visit.

(Mike Roach)

NICK’S ROAD REPORT
I made the trip out east to Tyler on Thursday night where I was able to see Allen and Tyler Legacy battle it out at Rose Stadium.

Making their way in from Austin for the game were Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski as they were on hand to check out Allen five-star defensive lineman DJ Hicks, Allen four-star offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu (injured, did not play), Tyler Legacy four-star defensive end Jordan Renaud and 2022 Texas commit Jamarion Miller. 247Sports was able to catch up with each of the four after the game, and here is what we were able to gather:

DJ Hicks recently generated a lot of Texas A&M buzz after a big Crystal Ball in favor of the Aggies was entered in early August. In talking to Hicks, I get the hint that Texas A&M is indeed the leader here and that Texas will have some work to do to get back in the mix. Fortunately, time is on their side and there are Texas connections to the family. However, out-of-state schools such as Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame continue to press hard.

With Renaud, the former Floridian is setting up to be what looks like an all-SEC recruitment. However, don’t consider Texas’ future involvement in the conference to be a factor there. As of now, I see schools such as Florida, Alabama and Texas A&M to have the upper hand, but again time will tell a lot moving forward.

Neto Umeozulu is a man of few words, but the few words he does express favors Texas along with Oklahoma and USC. Texas is still fighting this battle, and it may be for good reason considering the current outlook on the offensive line. Key determining factors will include future visits and potential early playing time, which is almost a certainty at Texas for any high-end recruit.

Despite early concerns that Jamarion Miller may be flirting with other schools, that communication has been nixed according to the four-star and he is focused on getting to Austin, which is most likely to happen next summer. He has built a strong relationship with Stan Drayton and he looks forward to developing that in the coming months before enrolling.

On Friday, I made the trip down to Galena Park to see 2022 commit Kristopher Ross and five-star Denver Harris. For my intel on Harris, refer to my Nick at Nite posted on Sunday. For Ross, the four-star defensive lineman is battling an ankle injury that kept him sidelined on Friday night, but it isn’t anything too serious right now. There have been a swarm of elite defensive linemen that have committed since Ross was the first to commit back in the spring, but Ross is looking forward to meeting those guys and competing with them upon arriving in Austin.

To add one last note, I was able to catch up with Katy (Texas) Mayde Creek 2023 cornerback TayShawn Wilson over the weekend after his game-day visit to Texas. Wilson and his family were blown away on the visit as Texas has done some solid work in emerging as a frontrunner early on here. As I mentioned a couple of weeks back, an LSU offer would be huge for the Louisiana native, but until then Texas has all of the momentum in their favor.

(Nick Harris)

QUICK HITS ON TOP TARGETS
Over the weekend I checked in with a few sources and spoke with a few recruits to see what the latest is.

Cameron Williams

The Oregon commit told Horns247 that he’s 100% committed to the Ducks, though he does still stay in contact with Texas.  Williams is planning to attend the Red River Showdown and Texas wants to get Williams back on campus for a game in Austin.  A source near Williams I talked with felt that Texas is still a dangerous threat to Oregon. I was told that Williams has been increasingly opening up with the Texas staff and likes the path to playing time in Austin. Oregon’s numbers at the position over the last few years are much higher than Texas, so the Longhorns can push playing time and proximity to home. Williams is saying the right things on the record, but Texas needs to get him back to campus to take this to the next level.  We will see if Texas can pull it off or if Oregon can slam the door on this recruitment.

Omari Abor

The five-star Duncanville EDGE rusher told me that despite the numbers Texas has on the defensive line so far, he’s still looking into what they have to offer. Abor said he still speaks often with the Texas staff and is still feeling the love from them. He plans to see the Texas-OU game and return to Austin for an official visit sometime during the fall. His current plans are to make an announcement at the Under Armour All-American game but he also acknowledged that his timeline could change. Ohio State still feels like the favorite in this race as the Buckeyes have most of the buzz for him. Texas will continue to shoot its shot for the elite edge rusher.

Neto Umeozulu

Umeozulu is a hard kid to read and that extends to just about everyone involved with his recruitment. I spoke to a source at Texas this weekend who feels the Longhorns are in a good position with the Allen offensive tackle, but they also admitted that his nature makes it difficult to be over-confident. The Texas staff is working to get Umeozulu to return for an official visit sometime this fall. The Longhorns see him as a potential tackle candidate because of his length and feet. USC was a school we heard a lot about for Neto in the summer, but with the staff changes there, several schools locally are trying to capitalize. Texas and Texas A&M are schools that figure to get trips while Oklahoma is also in contention. Florida is a possibility as well based on what I’ve heard.

Jaleel Skinner

Skinner is closing in on a decision and Texas remains a strong contender for the elite tight end prospect. Skinner visited Austin back in the summer, and we reported at that time that Skinner and his family loved what they saw and the opportunity to play right away. The four-star prospect from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy is also considering Clemson, Miami, Alabama, Florida State and Florida where he visited over the weekend. Florida State was previously gaining some steam, but it remains to be seen what the 0-3 Seminoles start has done to that progress. There’s still a lot of confidence in Austin in their chances to close the deal and we will see if Jeff Banks can bring this one home.

Yeah like the blurb on Cameron Williams from the Roach update @Getafix posted right above you. We could basically hand any OL recruit a Christian Jones jersey and a pair of Groucho Marx glasses and they can start this weekend.

(Justin Wells) Scoop: Rice was nice; individual recruiting updates; save the date Oct. 16th

Quote

Inside Texas dives into UT’s win over Rice, latest recruiting updates, and Save the Date on October 16th. Enjoy the Inside Scoop.

TEAM

Source: “They dominated the way they needed and kept intensity throughout the game, even as the lead grew. Play was pretty consistent, it was a good, balanced game. They came out like they were supposed to and finished strong. Pretty much how you hoped going into the game.” Another source: “They did what they’re supposed to do against Rice. Focus is already on Texas Tech and starting off conference play with a win. Tech will be a good test. They can run it and throw it.”

Sark’s message to the team [not verbatim]: Good win, intensity needs to maintain as they head into confererence. Need to keep foot on the gas. Coaches will look at the film. Need a good week of practice, need tougher practices to get prepared for tougher competition.

Will Andrej Karic play more: Sources didn’t have an answer to this but said we’d find out this week. They do confirm Kyle Flood wants him to get bigger, which isn’t going to happen over night. We’ll monitor this throughout the week.

Some young players who stood out: “Guys we’ve been discussing since June when they first arrived. Obviously Worthy. Byron Murphy. Those guys showed up with the right mindset. Jonathon Brooks could play more if they weren’t so deep. Barryn Sorrell transferred his play from the practice field to the playing field. He has a better get off than people realize. Derrick Harris did a good job playing with his hands, using his length. Did a good job of getting off blocks.” Along with the offensive line, we’ll see if the staff tinkers with Keilan Robinson in the slot. We’ve been checking periodically since he arrived.

Injuries: While the team came out mostly unscathed, we do have some concerns over freshman cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem‘s lower leg injury. We don’t have specifics but there’s some concern behind the scenes he’ll be out for an extended period of time.

RECRUITING

WR Evan Stewart, Liberty (Frisco, TX) – 2022: The On3 five-star made a return trip to Gainsville for the Bama-UF tilt on Saturday. Stewart was able to watch one of the better games so far this fall, and had the opportunity to see the Gators in person. Florida has put itself in a strong position for the 6-foot, 175-pound superstar, with Flower Mound QB and Florida pledge Nick Evers helping the recruitment. He’s seen UT and UF in the official capacity, and now has his sights on Alabama on November 6th. Getting Stewart back to Austin remains a priority and we’d be surprised if he didn’t return at some point this season. Sark, Flood, and Banks are all-in on the premier pass-catcher.

WR Brenen Thompson, Spearman (Spearman, TX) – 2022: The four-star speedster from West Texas made his official visit to Austin this weekend. Brenen’s mother, Bonnie, insists he’s still open and that they had a wonderful trip to Texas. It was a family affair this weekend with a few family members joining the trip. Selling immediate playing time and opportunity to thrive in this offense continue to be selling points for Team Thompson. Bottom line: Texas had a very good weekend in this recruitment but it’s setting up to be a photo finish.

CB Jaylon Guilbeau, Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) – 2022: The original member of UT’s Class of 2022 might be looking at a reunion. After de-committing from UT in late July, the 5-foot-11.5, 175-pound four-star has eyes back on Texas. We’ve reported how the Horns have put itself back in a position of strength with Guilbeau’s recruitment. When he de-committed, it almost felt like a knee-jerk reaction, and after hearing from Texas A&M and TCU, it appears the On300 No. 184 overall (91 score) defensive back could be ready to rejoin the class. Texas has maintained steady contact with Guilbeau throughout this pursuit and it appears the Longhorns definitely would like him back in the fold.

CB Denver Harris, North Shore (Houston, TX) – 2022: It’s looking less and less likely he’ll announce on his birthday (September 22nd). A date to announce, or a medium to do it on, has still yet to be decided. Expect it to be streamed or televised to a large audience. While most assume he’ll end up at Alabama, this recruitment is far from a lost cause for Texas. The staff is still all in on this recruitment and prepared to fight until signing day. IT could see this announcement playing out for a while.

TE Jaleel Skinner, IMG Academy via Greer, SC – 2022: The On3 top-rated tight end and No. 17 overall prospect for 2022 made his way to Gainesville for the Alabama-Florida tilt on Saturday. Skinner is still set to announce his decision on October 9th, and it appears Alabama will certainly take him in this class. Florida made a move this weekend as well, perhaps pushing Florida State out of the way. Skinner maintains strong contact with Texas and coach Jeff Banks, but the Horns need to get him back on campus to make this real. A possible visit post-commitment might be UT’s best shot at the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder.

LB Anthony Hill Jr., Ryan (Denton, TX) – 2023: The On3 No. 61 overall for the 2023 cycle made his way to Austin for the Texas-Rice contest on Saturday. He’s been on campus a handful of times this year and the staff continues to build a strong relationship with the family. “It was great,” said Hill Jr. “I had a lot of fun and I really like the staff.” After a state championship season where Hill tallied 105 tackles, 80 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and four rushing scores on offense, Hill is a fan of the Horns joining the SEC. “Feel like it would be a good for them,” Hill said, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound four-star. Hill holds 30 offers including Alabama, Texas A&M, Clemson, and OU. He’s seen College Station twice in the last couple months, so UT getting him back on campus was a solid step.

LB Lander Barton, Brighton (Salt Lake City, UT) – 2022: The 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker is scheduled to make his official visit to Texas this weekend. He made an official to Michigan September 11-12, and comes from a family full of Utah Utes athletes. Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate have targeted the On300 4-star prospect since the first of April when the Longhorns offered.

CB Canyon Moses, Legacy (Midland, TX) – 2023: The up-and-coming defensive back from west Texas will be in Austin this weekend for the Texas-Texas Tech contest. Moses holds two offers – Arizona and Kansas State – and camped at Oklahoma State and SMU over the summer. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound three-star ran a 10.98 100 meters and was a part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relays for Legacy in 2021. Moses is excited to see the Horns in person and eager to make the journey to the state capital. He watched TCU take down Cal two weeks ago and is also planning trips to Oklahoma State and Baylor.

*The next big visit weekend for the Longhorns will be October 16th. That is when On300 No. 1 in 2023 Arch Manning (New Orleans Isidore Newman), On300 No. 133 Earnest Greene(Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) and On300 4-star and Arizona State verbal Larry Turner-Gooden (Mission Hills, Calif./Bishop Alemany) are scheduled to make visits. Green and Turner-Good will be officials. The staff is also working to get 5-star IOL Devon Campbell (Arlington Bowie) and 4-star OL Neto Umeozulu (Allen High) on campus, among others.

Hoops:

Texas feels pretty good about where they stand in the race for On3 No. 22 Jordan Walsh (Link Year Prep via Dallas). The 6-foot-7 wing with a 7’3″ wingspan is likely to make an official to Memphis this weekend, and reschedule Kansas for October 9th. A key in how this recruitment plays out is if Arkansas gets Walsh back on campus for a second official visit. That is what Eric Musselman is pushing for. The Razorbacks are selling Musselman’s NBA offensive style, and preparation to be a one and done player. Texas has an amazing culture, and development on both ends the staff is selling, but what the Longhorns don’t have is Eric Musselman’s offensive style of play.

The Texas staff continues to pursue On3 4-star PF Jarace Walker (IMG Academy). He will make an official to Texas October 15th. The Longhorns are also turning up the heat on 4-star guard Chandler Jackson (Memphis Christian Brothers) and 4-star SF Dillon Mitchell (Montverde Academy). Jackson has Alabama, Ole Miss and Memphis in serious contention. The 6-foot-7 Mitchell has Florida State. Auburn, Illinois and Tennessee coming after him.

Eric Nahlin and Gerry Hamilton contributed to this story.

NickKnacks: Texas makes big impact on four-star Brenen Thompson on official visit

Nick Harris

This past weekend served as a big opportunity for Texas to score big with one of its top receiver targets in Spearman (Texas) four-star Brenen Thompson as the Panhandle speedster made the trip into Austin for his final official visit.

Thompson recently cut his list down to three including Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M, and will finish his fall visit swing next month when Texas A&M and Alabama clash at Kyle Field. He recently finished an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State for their win over Missouri State and took his official to Texas this past weekend.

I spoke with a source close to Thompson this morning who accompanied him on the trip, along with multiple family members, and the source had positive things to say about the family's trip to Austin.

When speaking about positives, there are many to choose from as the game-day experience, a meeting with head track coach Edrick Floreal, a meeting with Jordan Shipley, and the hospitality from the coaching staff and their families were all things that stood out for Thompson and his family.

There were some questions going into the trip that Thompson still wanted answers for following his unofficial visit in June, but the 5-foot-10, 165 pound four-star left Austin on Sunday with those answers and more. One of those questions he had was how he would fit in a big city like Austin coming from a small town like Spearman. Thompson is a very outdoorsy kid who would rather spend his weekends hunting and fishing rather than at home in front of a video game or watching Netflix.

The Texas coaching staff was ready to present him with a solution in the form of Jordan Shipley who met up with the family at halftime of the Rice game to discuss how he and Colt McCoy were able to transition as small-town kids to still being able to do the things they liked to do on the weekends, which were very similar to what Thompson likes to do. This pitch resonated with Thompson and answered his question completely. Aside from that, the family has zero quanders about being overwhelmed in a city like Austin as they have embraced the city and campus on their three trips to town over the course of the last six months.

Furthermore, the hospitality from Steve Sarkisian and his wife Loreal were top-tier during the visit, with Loreal getting a ton of praise from the family on being professional and kind-hearted to the visitors each time they made it to campus. Director of Recruiting Operations Taylor Searels and Assistant Director of Player Personnel JM Jones were also staffers that made an impact on the trip.

In all, Texas did just about everything they could do on Thompson's official visit this weekend to remain a legit contender to land one of their top targets. After Thompson's Oct. 8 visit to College Station, it will most likely be decision time in the following weeks as he plans to sign in December. As of now, I still like Texas' positioning and I feel cautiously confident in my Crystal Ball going into his final visit.

Gerry:

As posted earlier this AM, No. 55 Kristopher Ross (Houston North Shore) will make his official visit to Texas this weekend. Ole Miss defensive line coach Randall Joyner is working to make a push. To the point of telling Ross the Longhorns have a lot of defensive linemen committed, and that Ole Miss believes Aaron Bryant, Jaray Bledsoe and Justice Finkley all end up inside. TCU, Oklahoma and LSU are also still in contact.

No. 12 Denver Harris (Houston North Shore) is a maybe to announce on Wednesday, his 18th birthday. Alabama still receives the most mention at North Shore. A little Texas. LSU very little. But the news is Texas A&M is working very hard to make a positive move late. The Aggies aren't out of this one.

Harris doesn’t even want to go to A&M, yet as of this morning they are “all of a sudden” a major player in his recruitment.

Does anyone think it’s because Jimbo and Co. are just such gosh darn good recruiters? We are in a fire fight and Sark has been supplied with a musket.

tbf, it has appeared that A&M has been a major player for some time now. Honestly I think a lot of us have considered him aggy for awhile now.

Your point stands.

He hasn’t been high on aggy for a long time, if ever. Assuming bama does what bama does that’s the safe pick. There’s only one way he ends up at Texas. If I had to wager I’d bet we are too late. Best news for us is if he delays his commitment.

I may have overstated it a bit. I do believe a lot of us have known of a Harris/A&M flirtation, and have had our su$picions about what wa$ really going on over there, enough so to be nervous about it.

Again, though, point taken.

Well, yeah. That is going on with every major player and it is basically the way things are now. It isn't college football (more semi-pro than anything), but if we want to win, we have to play the game. Leal got paid very early in the game as did Waddle and we didn't respond. Now, I would assume that open bidding is going on and players are switching throughout the season. So, I don't know the best way to navigate the system. PM derka for those questions.

not saying you're wrong in the greater point, but I think "major player" is overstating it. They're trying to buy their way back in, it doesn't mean it's working yet.

For me it just shows how far ahead they are. I was hoping Arkansas would be a wake up call but maybe I’m being impatient.

I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say our finish in the 2022 class is going to set the trajectory for Sark’s time here. We can land Harris so it ticks me off.

I can understand the whole winning thing but where does aggy fit into that equation?  Their program has more in common with Rip Van Winkle, except they're not napping--that's the state of their program.  They talk about winning like they've won something during their parent's lifetime.  While I don't like it, I can understand losing players to Bama, tOSU, or Clemson.  The closest tradition aggy has is being a solid mid-tier program in multiple conferences.

Mike at Night: Notes on wide receiver targets

Mike Roach

— If you missed it, Nick Harris provided a great set of VIP notes on four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson following his visit. I've written in the past that the biggest challenge Texas would face for Thompson is making Austin smaller for him. In the past, Austin has been too big for small-town kids who just want to hunt and fish in their time off. I wondered how Texas could convey that, and it turns out bringing Jordan Shipley was one of the best buttons they could push. A speedy receiver originally from Abilene who just wants to fish and hunt was the perfect sounding board for Thompson. This staff is getting high marks for on-campus visits, and from what Nick told me, this one was no exception. We will see where things stand after the Texas A&M visit but Texas has to feel good right now.

— One thing we haven't talked much about yet is the recruiting impact of Loreal Sarkisian. Wives become part of college football recruiting lore be it Sally Brown or Terry Saban. In fact, I talked to a former Texas star who played under Mack Brown earlier today and asked him about his recruiting process. This player said that while Mack had the reputation as a closer, Sally was the true closer with the family. Thompson's family told Nick that Loreal was the picture of a First Lady on the visit with a great ability to connect with parents while showing both a fun and professional side. Michelle Herman had a somewhat polarizing reputation with parents, and I don't remember anyone saying much about Charlie Strong's wife and her role. So far, the early returns on Sark's wife have been strong from that perspective.

— I checked in with a source on Evan Stewart this week. Despite what you might have read elsewhere, Stewart did not end up making it to Gainesville to see Florida/Alabama. Stewart is planning to get back to Texas at some point this fall and will also try to get to the Texas-OU game. If I had to bet, I believe Texas will do everything possible to get Stewart back to campus for the Oklahoma State game which is turning into a big visit weekend. Slow and steady is the name of the game for the Longhorns and the top receiver in the country.

— There's been some smoke about Texas commit Armani Winfield and Michigan State. The Spartans are off to a hot start and are still on Winfield to see if they can flip him. There were some rumors that Winfield would head to East Lansing this week, but that's not the plan after talking to Winfield this evening. When I reached out, he denied the rumors and affirmed his commitment. Winfield also said he's probably headed to Austin this weekend for a visit. Maalik Murphy is expected to make it into town as well and I'm working on confirming another big name that could be making the trip.

If Coleman can't pull 2+ top WRs with Sark's offense to sell, he will officially be competing with Herb Hand on the recruiting ineptitude list

What WR play have you seen this year from Texas that would make you want to come here if you were a 5 star recruit? You have to have a product to sell, give the man some time

So apparently the WR board is currently:

Armani Winfield - Committed

evan Stewart

brenan Thompson

Shazz Preston

Kevin Coleman - this one is interesting given he was considered a FSU lean. visiting this weekend with Skinner.

Jordan Hudson - SMU commit
