  1. I shudder to think what Herman could do with 20 Serbian orphan walk-ons. We would be like Nebraska in the 90s, except instead of corn fed linemen we roll out 11 Serbians smoking cigarettes in jumpsuits who just kidnap the opposing players' families until they forfeit.

  2. I, too, was flummoxed that he called the "running back drop a wide open touchdown" play. Great post.

  3. From what I'm hearing, in the 1990's Karic was trying to establish a Serbian ethno-state in the former Yugoslavia. He was funneling money and arms to Serbian rebels in Croatia and Bosnia and these rebels were committing some light war crimes. Now none of this was Karic's fault, but the mods who control the 247 rankings are mostly Bosnians and they still hold a grudge against Karic. And he needs to gain like 30 pounds.

  4. He had some seriously fatal flaws in managing a program that had nothing to do with this being Texas and all the stuff that goes along with that Namely, hiring assistants and roster management. Watson was awful, and everyone on this board, and every fan of a school where he had previously oc'd who came to this board, predicted that it would go down like it did. Do not try to tell me his hands were tied by Patterson. He had budget to do better than Shawn Watson, but it was a comfort hire. Bedford was a washout from okst. Nothing in his history suggested top tier DC. The only reason any of us weren't equally concerned with him vs Watson is that defense is supposed to be your coaches expertise, so if it breaks he'll fix it, just like Herman had to do with Beck. Only Charlie never fixed it. Not only did he make poor hires, he was painfully slow to acknowledge and correct it, which ultimately probably cost him his job as much as anything. On the roster side, it's really simple. Some of our best players over the last few years have been transfers Herman strategically went after to fill voids on our team. Calvin Anderson, Gary Johnson, and Tre Watson all come to mind. When Charlie had roster holes, he (and his supporters) would throw hands up and say "what are we supposed to do, we don't have the players?" Herman is finding a way to address these issues where Charlie was just fine to excuse poor performance with roster holes. It's a massive difference in approach to managing your team. In his time here, Charlie failed to manage his defense, his coaching hires, or our glaring roster holes well. The only thing you could argue he did reasonably well was recruit, and even that is clearly better under Herman. It's ok to have wanted Charlie to succeed here, but objectively he just failed at almost every important facet of his job. That's why he lost it, and he's doing the same thing now at usf without all of the "distractions" of Texas.

  7. here's the thing about arguing with the climate deniers: it's actually dogma for them. there is a strong correlation between evangelical and climate science belief. they are not here to take input, they are here for output, to preach the word. i'm 100% serious about this. they will never change their mind. and here's the thing about he dishonest way that they frame the debate: we are actually in the middle of the catastrophe. it's not like a high speed car wreck, it's a lot more like a slow moving train wreck. we know our climate is changing. some of it may be due to natural climate fluctuation, but there is no denying that throwing a bunch of carbon into the air isn't affecting the larger trends. and beyond that...what's so bad about a green new deal? we know it will create jobs, we know clean air and water are good things. we should aspire to be a better steward of the planet. i mean, shit, that's in the first book of the bible. we are polluting our oceans. but the thinking is similar to air pollution: the ocean, like the atmosphere, is so big that certainly we are overstating our role in this, right? wrong. our ecosystem is hardy and flexible, but it is also a fairly delicate balance of things that allow us to eat sushi and farm corn. we should absolutely try to minimize our impact on that, and deal with the planet's changing climate as it happens to the best of our ability, as humans have always done. there is finally movement on this front, real international movement. and how anyone wants to shout about "but, this article said this in 1978!" misses the goddamn forest for the trees. we are the frog enjoying the hot bath at the moment. if we don't find a way to turn off the fire, we will be that boiled frog.

  11. We've got Devin Duvernay leading the country in receptions. We've got Brennan Eagles who now has 3 TDs in 3 games. We have Collin who is as badass of a possession WR that we have proven we know how to use. We also find ways to get talented freshman in the game regardless of experience like Jake Smith. On the other hand, you have aggy who doesn't know how to use their 6'6 WR and doesn't know how to get the ball to their most talented player in Ausbon. Their QBs suck and their OL cannot give Mond 2 seconds to throw. There's a reason Troy Slo'mere is trying to reach out to Texas and I'm happy we don't have a spot for him. If you're a WR, kiss any hopes of being developed or seeing touches in that offense goodbye. That offense is friendly for a good running back and a good TE. Other than that, you've got fat slow guards, a QB that can't throw, and WRs that are useless in a slow outdated offense no one runs anymore. In short, this visit will only reinforce to Quay that he made the right choice. Gonna be fun watching Auburn's DL fuck aggy up.

  12. More than anything else, fuck this post-truth bullshit. This is the same thinking that leads Trumpkin dimwits to say, "they all a bunch of crooks" then vote for the guy that's obviously a crook. Call me an idealist, but I do think it's reasonable to expect people to be honest in politics and real life. When people aren't honest, they need to be held to account whether you agree with them or not. Warren will gut that pig by making ethics reform a front and center issue. If you're cool with what Lewandowski said in that clip, seriously, take a hard look at yourself because any credible religion or system of ethics in the history of humanity says you're fucked up.

  19. Perhaps the Forgotten Man was forgotten for a reason. He is a vile racist who eschews intellectualism and revels in ignorance. He is a xenophobe who uses the flag as a cudgel against anyone new or anyone with new ideas. He is an ignoramus with no vision for the future and no concept of the world beyond his hometown. Shitwatersville, Alabama is full of the Forgotten Men. Tahoe brings them donuts. I choose to forget about them all over again.

  21. Ok. So on the interesting front. 1. He passed on the Beatles. Was in NY with a bunch other RCA execs. Listened to a demo or some such. The consensus was RCA had Elvis why would they need this band from England. 2. Brought the Sex Pistols to Australia when he was president RCA Australia. Had the contracts all set to go. Sid Vicious pissed on the contracts right on his desk. My Grandad told them they would never work again. Put the word out and they didn’t. Now I don’t know about the didn’t work again but... I think they kind of reference the no working thing in Sid and Nancy. Can’t remember. 3. You can blame him .. or thank him for John Denver. He signed him ... also Abba when he was president Europe. 4. My grandmother loved Ray Price and I would see him often when he was in Nashville - Franklin when he retired. but I saw Jerry Reed the most. He was really down to earth. 5. He was just a hillbilly from Wheeling WV ... worked his way up from pressing records to President. He had a really good ear (less the Beatles thing). He passed away about 20 years ago. I have a few gold records he got from some artists. A few pics with Dolly and Milsap. Stiff like that.

  22. First try at a pastrami. Basically used the Jess Pryles Recipe: https://jesspryles.com/recipe/make-brisket-pastrami/ Separated point and flat. Brined 5 days, smoked. Went over well with the family. Maybe dial down the salt a bit, or soak for a full day after brining next time.

  34. The only stable belief held by an average joe denier is "I don't want to change," maybe mixed to some degree with "the people who talk about climate change are my enemies politically so what they say has to be wrong". That's it. If you read an average climate denier's arguments, they freely shift between "it's not happening", but "if it is happening, it's natural", but "if we are influencing it, we can't stop it", "but if we can stop it, it doesn't matter because China", and anyway "more CO2 is actually good". To some extent, this reflects a change in approach over time (and as informed by conservative think tanks who have to continually think up new talking points for the drones), as it becomes more and more obvious that the Earth is gradually warming as more CO2 and other greenhouse gases are emitted, just as scientists have been saying would happen for more than a century now. It's pretty amusing then to hear deniers to try to put forth the notion that climate scientists and those that support them are constantly changing their argument, which they frequently do (for ex., "in the '70s they were trying to scare us with talk of a new ice age!").
