Oh for fuck’s sake. The current pushback against sound public health policy isn’t the expression of some heroic American national trait. It’s knee jerk belligerence of the type most often displayed by cranky toddlers and “Hold my Beer”-style Darwin Award winners. Let’s not confuse these overgrown infants for patriots.15 points

cam4mav had a delicious looking sandwich on the Steel Shank thread that merited its own thread - so i thought i would revive this thread from TOS i dug up the original sandwich starting that thread. I think it was 2013 or 2014 and as I recall it was a "ice day" in Austin so I was "working" from home and decided to make a ridiculous fucking sandwich: check out this fucking cheeseburger sandwich (also found in my photos): check out this fucking sandwich I made recently with home cured and brined corned beef braised in Guinness (cross-posted in Shit I've Cooked Lately):12 points

You're honestly asking why LeBron James primarily champions black rights and injustices rather than going to bat for every bad thing that happens to anyone? I'm going to let you think about that for awhile and realize why it's fucking stupid.11 points

It is obvious you don’t have much experience reading newspapers and instead are in a right-wing information bubble. Consider closing twitter and Facebook and breitbart and limiting your time on Fox News. Check out PBS News Hour. It’s free and online. Only an hour a day. Fold in some NPR. Buy the local paper. The Statesman if you live in Austin. Finally, mix in some WSJ and Post. What you will notice is that there are factual news based reporting and separate from that are opinion editorials. That separation is key. Once you are able to see the separation in reputable journalism outlets, you will then be able to notice that Fox News blurs that seperation to the point that a Fox News consumer (such as yourself) didn’t even know News/opinion separation was a thing.11 points

Corn tortillers fried up in some bacon grease and topped in taco meat and then some. Paper plate, though festive and carefree, proved not worthy in the support and handling of this shankenstein.11 points

If a dog got loose and was running down the street, and you chased it down and shot it because it didn't listen when you yelled at it to stop, you'd be charged with animal cruelty. A black guy doesn't even get that treatment, but no racial issue here, let's focus on LeBron James 's Twitter.10 points
-
I think the issue is that in a discussion of this murder, out of all the things that have come out about it the one thing that bothered you enough to make a comment was that some famous black person said black people are always hunted. The murder of an innocent man did not bother you as much as the hyperbolic words of a famous black man. I'm pretty sure that's where the "fuck you" came from, not from a love for Lebron James.10 points

13 years ago, the market took the banks at their word on the valuation of mortgage backed securities in the face of key indicators saying otherwise. It nearly collapsed the global economy. 6 months after the first major institution, New Century, went bankrupt the Dow hit its all time peak. Literally 4 months after that, the government had to begin bailing everyone out. Now the market is ignoring key economic indicators while all the market players are taking each other at their word that the next 6 months worth of bad economic news is already priced in, despite the economic fog of war. I'm not saying to withdraw your Roth and slap it all on 150 SPY puts for Jan 2021, but it's too soon to tell if March was a foreshock or the main event.8 points

I have corona insomnia but I just screenshotted about 50-60 tweets from Tara Reade and I’ll pull them all together tomorrow. Her Twitter account is almost all Bernie tweets and hashtags. You can see a clear escalation in her behavior. First, she has tons of replies pimping her writing to famous people and Bernie staffers and media folks. In the beginning she’s pushing her grievance over being referred to as pro-Putin and Russia. Then it becomes about being silenced and “pushed out by Biden”. Then as the primary became a two way contest, her tweets (which always include links to her writing on Medium) are anti-Biden with Bernie hashtags. Then after South Carolina, they start including the word assault (still accompanied by Bernie hashtags) and she starts teasing there’s going to be a big story that takes out Biden. Then we get to Super Tuesday and the “tic toc” tweet to Ryan Grim. Finally, once she gets the first real media attention, she stops including Bernie hashtags or even mention of him in her tweets about Biden. Do I believe Biden probably acted like a creep in the 90s? Yep. Do I believe Joe Biden fingered her in the Senate building? Nope. Do I believe she has an “agenda” - that she’s upset about Bernie losing and she’s angry that Biden beat him? Yep. Do I believe she’s being used now as a tool to damage Biden, without any regard for her well being? Yep. Am I pissed off that her inconsistencies in her story (which are common in abuse victims) will be pointed at by people acting in bad faith to discredit other victims? Yep. My conclusion is I think Biden probably treated her poorly and she’s been angry about that for years. (Why she spoke positively about him for years is puzzling.) I think she got emotionally connected to Bernie Sanders and was devastated by his loss and that reignited her anger with Biden. She wasn’t getting any traction when her story wasn’t juicy enough. So she juiced it up. And now she’s stuck with a story full of contradictions and gone past the point of backing down. And the thing that pisses me off the most are the comparisons to Christine Blasey-Ford. Ford didn’t vague tweet for months. Ford didn’t want to go public - she wrote a letter to make Dianne Feinstein aware of concerns about Kavanaugh and was outed when none other than Ryan Grimm wrote an article about that letter. Ford didn’t tweet out any “it’s all about timing, tic toc” nonsense. I want Reade to be interviewed by a real journalist, not a woman who ignored a culture of sexual harassment for her own gain until other women exposed it and then she jumped on the bandwagon to advance herself. I want Joe Biden to release every bit of documents from the time Reade worked for him. I want him interviewed about this by a real journalist too. Reade being interviewed by Megyn Kelly would be like Biden being interviewed by Matt Lauer or Charlie Rose on this situation. It’s such a fucking mess and the only person who’s going to end up victimized and permanently damaged is Tara Reade.8 points

Focused on Russia stuff is one way to put it. I don't think anyone assumes you are a Russian. What people assume is you are here to astroturf this board. Which is fine, as long as people read your posts with that critical eye and understanding.7 points

I wasn’t sure what TDS was and I didn’t want to assume, so I went to the google machine and this was the first result. TOP DEFINITION TDS Trump Dick Sucker: Any fucktard that thinks that a misogynistic, racist rapist who ignores the law and encourages his sheep to commit to violence (not to mention is a terrible businessman) would be good for the US.7 points

I’m actually with you on this point. His mistake was not trusting these complete strangers that just shot him point blank in the chest with a shotgun for no reason. It wasn’t clear if they meant him any harm at that point, he should’ve taken a deep breath and just tried to start a dialogue with these guys. They’d only shot him unprovoked once at that point, what were the odds they would do it again? Not saying it’s his fault, but it’s difficult to understand why he chose to fight for his life instead of give himself entirely to their mercy.7 points

When Mizzou and aggy left the B12, their combined athletics department budgets were less than that of UT Austin, so neither school was considered a significant player in financial discussions by the media partners, or by many inside the conference. For years, Mizzou and aggy had irritated others (OU, Texas, Nebraska, etc) because the schools simply refused to make badly needed capital investments necessary to help broadcast partners market games involving them, or even help themselves recruit better and compete at a higher level nationally. In the case of Mizzou, every Big12 athletics director was unhappy with them because their lack of investing in their product had gotten so bad their field itself was a hazard to the health of visiting players. Remember in 2011 Mizzou had 7 home games. During 2011, three teams (Mizzou, Texas, Tech) saw their leading running back suffer season-ending knee injuries because the turf was so bad. In 2011, Mizzou was not held in high regard by Big12 athletics directors, or by many B12 fans (certainly not by many B12 running backs). Mizzou was no great loss to anyone in the B12.7 points

For your afternoon livestock update, cattle runs held steady at 85K, with a slightly smaller Saturday run expected but we made good progress there this week. Unless there is a late surprise today or Monday it looks like the boxed beef high is pretty close to being in. Packers paid up this week, so I think it is a combination of progress in slowing cattle on feed down, and packers wanting to keep good will with feedlots and the DOJ for setting formula prices. (I talked to Bloomberg News about that today, you can look under their ag news later today for more discussion there if you want. Mostly I just want to name drop that Bloomberg uses me as a source) Hogs improved more, and had yesterday's run revised higher, pork prices should stay sideways, but the belly run should be easing back soon. Two big plants are supposed to be back next week, which could help a lot. The big question will be how much of a hole this will leave on the backend, which could make things squirrely late in the year.6 points

Why wouldn't we be able to discuss local orders here? Understanding the current orders, stance, and response of the municipal, county, state, and federal governments is relevant news and is appropriate for this thread. Interjecting your own opinion on a particular politician's or party's motivations behind those orders, is not relevant news and is not appropriate for this thread. There is another thread-- an entire other forum-- for that discussion. Which is what this site's owners and moderators keep on pointing out. Your question is fine, and the response was fine, and neither entailed the type of discussion of political motivations that is not appropriate here, but is completely appropriate on the CR thread.6 points

Don't care for the penultimate graf, but rep and respect for owning up for your earlier remarks. Maybe, as you contend, Arbery would be alive if he had dropped to the ground and begged for his life, but the situation is so completely surreal that it's unfair to judge. Imagine if you're out for a Sunday jog and suddenly around a curve there's a truck with three dudes armed with shotguns who are yelling at you to halt. Three cops drawing down on you in that situation would be bewildering enough, but three rednecks? What if Arbery had turned and run the other way? Preponderance of evidence suggests this "posse" likely would've shot him in the back. There's also no telling what the folks in the trailing vehicle would've done. Instead, he tried to run around the truck, but then got shot at (hard to tell conclusively from the video, but this seems the most likely scenario). In that situation, charging the shooter seems reasonable because your back is going to make a much easier target for him and his buddies. Worse, even if he had wrestled the shotgun away from Redneck No.1, there's no doubt Nos.2 and 3 would've gunned him down the moment there was any separation. So, yeah, maybe he should've fallen prone and yelled, "Massuh, massuh, doan hurt meh, pleez!" the moment he saw the roadblock, but why should someone minding his own business have to publicly debase himself to a trio of strangers simply for taking a Sunday jog? Even then, it seems quite likely that these trigger-happy idiots would've found some justification for shooting him, which means this Arbery guy was fucked no matter what he did.6 points
